XLRI Jamshedpur offers the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management as a two-year, full-time, residential course with 240 seats. XLRI opened in 1949 and is India's oldest management school, with AACSB and AMBA accreditation and rank #11 in Collegedunia's MBA ranking 2026. The full course fee is INR 30.50 Lakhs, and hostel and mess take it to INR 33.50 Lakhs. You get in through XAT, which XLRI itself sets, followed by a personal interview. The XAT 2026 cutoff for a call was 94 percentile for male candidates. The Class of 2026 placed 100% of its batch at an average of INR 31.40 LPA.
XLRI Jamshedpur PGDBM Fees
The total fees with hostel is INR 33.50 Lakhs, while the fees without hostel is INR 30.50 Lakhs. The tuition and programme fee is INR 30.50 Lakhs of that. XLRI fixes this fee and publishes it before each batch joins. The campus is residential, so hostel and mess are extra for almost every student. Check the XLRI fee notice for the payment dates before you accept the seat.

Should you pick PGDBM at XLRI Jamshedpur?
This course suits students who want a consulting, HR or marketing job and can live on a residential campus for two years.
Pick it if:
You want a consulting job: consulting took 36% of the last batch, the biggest share, and the same firms come back every year.
You want an old alumni base: XLRI has sent out batches since 1949, so its alumni sit in senior seats across consulting and FMCG firms.
You want a room on campus: the programme is fully residential, so a hostel room comes with the seat and you do not hunt for a flat.
You score evenly across sections: XLRI reads every section percentile, not only the overall one, so an even score helps you here.
Skip it if:
You are paying the fee yourself: the full course costs INR 30.50 Lakhs, about one year of the average pay, and it is due long before that pay starts.
You want a big city: Jamshedpur is a steel town, so the weekday guest lectures and walk-in internships of a metro are not on offer.
You are counting on a top offer: 576 students were placed with the HRM batch, so the median of INR 29 LPA sits far below the highest offer.
You will apply only after your degree result: XAT is the single form for this seat and it shuts on 6 Dec 2026, weeks before the paper.
Counsellor's advice
If XAT is your main exam and you want a consulting or HR role, put XLRI at the top of your list. If you are paying the fee alone, get the loan approved before you accept the seat.

In short
SPJIMR costs INR 4 Lakhs less and pays a little more on average. If you want a marketing or finance role and clear both, weigh that gap against the older alumni base at XLRI.
In short
MDI Gurgaon costs less and sits next to the Delhi job market, but XLRI pays more on average. If you want consulting and can pay, keep XLRI above it.
In short
IIM Kozhikode is the cheapest seat here and takes CAT, not XAT. If you are writing both exams, keep it as the safer seat and XLRI as the first pick.
In short
IIM Indore is cheaper and takes CAT, but its average pay is the lowest in this list. If XLRI gives you a call, take it and treat Indore as the backup.
Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.

What would you prefer from IIM-A, B, C, and XLRI Jamshedpur for management courses?
Bidita GhoseLives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
All four are the best, most renowned, highly established business schools in the country. Though to be a part of one of them will be dependent on various factors
Order of choice (highest to lowest)
Peer group: All of them give you a network of the sharpest and brightest minds, so all in the same boat.
Culture: IIM C, XLRI, IIM B & A tie at the same spot (personal opinion completely).
Location: Depends from person to person, so this is a ranking you'll have to do for yourself.
Specialization: Depends on what specialization you're looking for. IIM Ahmedabad gives you the best for Consulting, IIM Calcutta for finance.
Gut feeling: This is again, very personal, depending on what your dream college was when you started out.
Other criteria like packages, internships, fees, etc. won't be a differentiation in these because all of them would give you very similar job profiles, and CTC and have marginally different fees.
Ultimately, the institution that you choose should align with your career goals and aspirations. It's important to research and compare each institution carefully before making a decision.
Should I join an online data science course of XLRI Jamshedpur after a gap of 3 years to enter the technology field?
Devansh JhaXlri jamshedpur
Whether you enroll in an online D.S. course at XLRI Jamshedpur after three years depends on your aspirations.
Your data science and technological skills are crucial. If you've taken a break from technology, you may need to brush up on the latest innovation. XLRI Jamshedpur's online data science course may be ideal for this.
Data science courses may help you reach your career goals. XLRI courses may help you start a data science or related career. If your job aspirations are elsewhere, investigate other options.
An online degree from XLRI Jamshedpur may be a suitable choice if you want to work in data science or a related field. Before choosing, assess your skills, goals, and resources.
Do you think the PGCHRM course conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur gives an edge in your career, I believe it's a big no?
Aishwarya AnandStudied at the Xavier School of Management
PGCHRM is an abbreviation for Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management. For an HR practitioner who has not received much official schooling in the HR area, this will provide some formal knowledge of HR.
PGCHRM from XLRI Jamshedpur may help you get promoted because some organisations require it. XLRI Jamshedpur is considered one of the best college for Human resources that can give you an edge but it may not bring a big change in your career because it is not as valued as a full-time MBA.
Indrani ChatterjeePGDM from Xavier School of Management (2018)
XLRI Jamshedpur does not offer MPOD program directly but XLRI Jamshedpur offers this course in association with Weatherhead School of Management USA. XLRI Jamshedpur and US-based Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University have tied to offer an innovative program on Positive Organization Development and Change (MPOD) in India.
According to the two institutes, the new program commencing in November 2013 has been designed specifically for mid-level executives with a passion for leading change initiatives. It will aim at enhancing their leadership and change management skills, building sustainable institutions, and shaping vibrant communities.
The program which targets experienced professionals from all functional areas will cost around $35000 (or its equivalent in Rupees).
According to XLRI, the program will be facilitated jointly by an XLRI-Weatherhead faculty team which will include internationally acclaimed scholars, authors, thought leaders and intellectuals who have had a pioneering impact on organization development and change.
How must I prepare for the GD-PI rounds at XLRI Jamshedpur for the BM course?
Aishwarya AnandStudied at Xavier School of Management
The interview process at XLRI covers a wide range of topics and is designed to give the interviewers a comprehensive understanding of the candidate. During the interview, you may be asked questions about yourself, your past education, any work experience you may have, your family, hobbies, current affairs, and your views on various global issues.
It is important to prepare for the classic interview questions, but it is equally important not to memorize them verbatim. Instead, be prepared for any variations of the questions that may be asked. Some commonly asked questions include:
Can you tell me something about yourself?
Why do you want to pursue an MBA, and why have you chosen XLRI? Why have you chosen a particular stream such as marketing or finance?
Can you tell me about a specific incident in your past and what you learned from it?
It is essential to be familiar with every point on your CV. It is perfectly acceptable to say "I don't know" to a technical question during an interview, but it is not ideal to not be able to answer a question about yourself or your CV.
During the interview, the panelists may ask you to speak about yourself and provide arguments for and against any current government scheme. They may also ask you to design an E-R diagram for an IT system for managing the admissions process of XLRI, and can also inquire about your hobbies and passion. It is crucial to be prepared for a wide range of questions and be able to express oneself effectively.
How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?
Apoorv AshutoshFormer PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)
The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.
Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.
Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.
So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.
