Wildlife Institute of India M.Sc. Admission 2024

Wildlife Institute of India offers a two-year Master’s course in Wildlife Science, Heritage Conservation and Management and Freshwater Ecology and Conservation. Candidates applying must have a minimum of 15 years of formal education (either 10+2+3 or 11+2+2). For admission, a candidate will have to sit for a NET exam conducted by WII Dehradun. Shortlisted candidates will be called for the Personality and Aptitude Test (PAT) or Interview. For the final selection, 50% weightage is given to both NET and PAT.

NET will be for 2 hours duration and consist of 100 marks question paper. For foreign candidates, the final merit list will be based on 50% marks in the Graduation degree and 50% marks obtained in the interview (Maximum marks - 100) which will be conducted by Skype or other online means.

Key Points:

  • Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree from Universities outside India should obtain certificates of equivalence from the Secretary-General, Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • The minimum qualifying mark to become eligible to appear for the written examination is 50 per cent in aggregate at the field of the study mentioned in the eligibility section for general category and OBC candidates (both Indian and foreign nationals) and 45 per cent in aggregate for SC/ST candidates.
  • The maximum age limit should be 25 years as of the closing date of application with a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates. For the in-service candidates working in the Forest and Wildlife Departments, the age limit is 35 years as of the closing date of application.
  • Foreign candidates who do not have English as their native language must have sufficient TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Wildlife Institute of India offers a Post-Graduate Diploma Course of 10-month duration in Advanced Wildlife Management. Candidates applying should possess a background of Forestry training with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any of the natural sciences. Wildlife Institute of India Certificate Course Admission 2024

Wildlife Institute of India offers a three-month Certificate course in Wildlife Management. State Forest Departments or Foreign Governments/ Agency must send nominations of eligible candidates. Admission will be based on a first come first serve basis. Wildlife Institute of India Application Process 2024

Wildlife Institute of India grants admission to 2-year PG courses, 10-month PG Diploma and short-term certificate programmes. Applicants of the M.Sc. course need to follow the below-mentioned steps to apply online for the course.

Indian Candidates:

  • Visit the official website of WII.
  • Fill out the registration form available on the website.
  • After successful online registration, Candidates have to fill out an application form and pay the fee of INR 1,500.
  • In the application form candidates have to upload a recent passport-size photograph, scanned copies of their school certificate/ valid passport as age proof, Graduation mark sheets and degree (Previous/Final year), and caste certificate (applicable for candidates seeking reservation quota).
  • Candidates have to take the printout of the filled application form and send it to:

The envelope containing the application of the in-service candidate being sent through the proper channel should be marked "APPLICATION OF IN-SERVICE CANDIDATE FOR XX M.SC. WILDLIFE SCIENCE COURSE" or “APPLICATION OF IN-SERVICE CANDIDATE FOR M.Sc. FRESHWATER ECOLOGY AND CONSERVATION COURSE”.

Foreign Candidates:

  • Foreign candidates will also have to visit the website and fill out the form.
  • Candidates will have to upload a recent passport-size photograph, scanned copies of their passport with a validity period till 2026, school leaving certificate, reference letters from 2 persons, proof of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score (if applicable).
  • Eligible foreign candidates have to pay an application processing fee of US$ 100 or equivalent.
  • The fee can be transferred electronically to the WII account.
  • The result of selected foreign nationals will be available on WII’s website and the selected students will also be informed by email.

Ques. What are the exam centres of NET conducted by the Wildlife Institute of India?

Ans. Wildlife Institute of India conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) in online mode to offer admission to M.Sc. programmes. The exam is conducted in 14 exam centres located in Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Dehra Dun, Ranchi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Aizawl and Jammu.

Ques. What are the eligibility criteria for the Certificate course at the Wildlife Institute of India?

Ans. To apply for a three-month certificate course at the Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun, the candidate must be an in-service Officer of the rank of Deputy Range Officer/Range Forest Officer or an officer of equivalent rank having a minimum qualification of Higher Secondary (12th) standard with a basic course in forestry.

Ques. What is the seat intake of the Wildlife Institute of India?

Ans. Wildlife Institute of India offers admission to 15 Indian and 05 foreign nationals (with preference to SAARC countries) in M.Sc. Wildlife Science. The M.Sc. course in Freshwater Ecology and Conservation is not open to foreign applicants. The course is provided to 20 Indian students having a reservation of 8 seats for the general category, 5 for the OBC category, 3 for the SC category, 1 for the ST category and 1 for EWS category students. If OBC/SC/ST candidates secure seats on their merit in competition with general candidates, they shall not be counted against reserved seats. A maximum of 02 seats will be offered to in-service candidates.

Ans. A monthly stipend of INR 3000 per month and support for the dissertation project will be offered by WII Dehradun for students enrolled in M.Sc. Wildlife Science. WII Dehradun offers a 2-year M.Sc. course having a total course fee of INR 6,00,000 and a student intake capacity of 20 students.

Ques. What is the entrance exam for the Wildlife Institute of India?

Ans. The Wildlife Institute of India conducts an online National Eligibility Test (NET) to select M.Sc. students. NET will be for a 2-hour duration for 100 marks, with objective types of questions and essays, covering general aptitude, knowledge, analytical and language skills, basic mathematical and quantitative skills, and knowledge about basic biology, ecology and conservation issues (40 marks); Main subject Domain (40 marks) and an essay maximum 300 words on environmental issues, freshwater conservation or related subjects (20 marks). The regular in-service candidates having at least five years of regular work experience will be exempted from NET.

Ans. The Wildlife Institute of India offers scholarships to eight Indian students enrolled in M.Sc. Wildlife Science based on their selection merit. The scholarship covers academic fees, hostel accommodation and a monthly stipend.

A minimum TOEFL Score of 213 (computer-based), 550 (paper-based), or 79 (internet-based), or a minimum of 6.0 IELTS score is required.
