Wildlife Institute of India (WII) was established in 1982 in Dehradun under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. The college was established as an autonomous institute in 1986. Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is affiliated with the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (ACSIR). WII Dehradun offers a Master in Wildlife Science, Masters in Heritage Conservation and Management, M.Sc. in Freshwater Ecology and Conservation, PG Diploma in Advance Wildlife Management, Certificate Courses and Short Term Courses. Wildlife Institute of India Courses & Fees 2024 

Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun offers M.Sc, PG Diploma, Short Term and Certificate Programmes. Students interested in pursuing higher education in the wildlife domain can pursue these courses. The table given below shows the details of Wildlife Institute of India Courses & Fees:

In-service officers of the rank of Deputy Range Officers/Range Forest Officers or officers of equivalent rank having a minimum of Higher Secondary (12th) standard and should have completed a course in Forestry 

Wildlife Institute of India grants admission to 2-year PG courses, 10-month PG Diploma and short-term certificate programmes. For M.Sc, eligible Indian candidates will be required to appear for an online National Eligibility Test (NET) in any one of the 14 Centres. Shortlisted candidates based on NET screening will be further called to attempt a Personality and Aptitude Test (PAT)/interview to be held at Dehradun. The selection of the course will be made based on the combined merit of marks obtained in the NET and PAT.

Note: All eligible foreign candidates will be selected through an online interview. The final merit list will be based on marks in the Graduation degree and marks obtained in an online interview.

Interested candidates can follow the steps given below to apply for Wildlife Institute of India Admission 2024:

  • Fill out the application form.
  • Candidates will be required to fill in their personal, educational and professional experience profiles online.
  • Upload all the necessary documents.
  • Pay the registration fee of INR 1500.
  • The institute will issue an admit card.
  • Appear for the entrance examination.
  • The institute will upload the results of NET on the official website.

All selected students (Indian as well as foreign nationals) are required to arrive at Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India on July 29, 2024 and report at the Institute.


Wildlife Institute of India Placements 

Wildlife Institute of India offers placement and internship opportunities for students. The EIA cell of the institute provides placement opportunities for students pursuing academic and professional courses in Environmental Science offered by several institutions outside WII Dehradun.


Wildlife Institute of India Scholarship 

The Wildlife Institute of India offers scholarships to eight Indian students enrolled in M.Sc. Wildlife Science based on their selection merit. The scholarship covers academic fees, hostel accommodation and a monthly stipend. Wildlife Institute of India Campus 

Wildlife Institute of India campus is located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Students and parents can reach the campus easily by road or railway. The campus has a rich diversity of 616 plant species comprised of 58 trees, 65 shrubs, 357 herbs and climbers (vines), etc. Of the total 616 plant species, 94% species are in the wild and 6% species are planted. The biodiversity of the Wildlife Institute of India is also rich in birds, amphibians, reptiles, spiders, butterflies, etc. The campus of WII Dehradun offers all the necessary facilities given below:

  • Auditorium: It has a fully air-conditioned auditorium that can accommodate more than 300 students. Microphones are provided in front of each chair which facilitates interactive sessions during various events. It has LCD projectors with good audio and visual qualities. 
  • Hostel: The Wildlife Institute of India is a residential campus with two hostel accommodations. There are a total of 84 single rooms and 40 double rooms in the old and new hostels. The old hostel building is for masters and research students and the new hostel provides accommodation to trainees and guests. Both hostels have facilities of a common television room, table tennis, carom board and lounge space.
  • Guest House: It has one guest house situated near the old hostel. The guest house includes 10 fully furnished rooms including 2 VIP suites. It has a dining room in which delicious food is served. The guest house is available for guests and visitors, delegates and participants attending various conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops.
  • Sports Facility: Students can enjoy their free time in the sports complex. There is a large playground and floodlit tennis, badminton and basketball courts. Every year faculty, researchers and staff members participate in the Annual All India Forest Sports Meet.

Ans. Wildlife Institute of India campus is located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Students and parents can reach the campus easily by road or railway. The WII Dehradun campus is situated in Chandrabani off the Delhi-Dehradun highway about 10 km away from the main city, and 1.5 km from the Dehradun-Delhi highway. The nearest airstrip is located at Jolly Grant at a distance of 21 km from the town.

Ques. What courses are offered by the Wildlife Institute of India?

Ans. Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun offers a Master in Wildlife Science, Masters in Heritage Conservation and Management, M.Sc. in Freshwater Ecology and Conservation, PG Diploma in Advance Wildlife Management, Certificate Courses and Short Term Courses. The certificate program is a 3 months duration course while the PG Diploma is for 10 months. Both the masters courses are offered for 2 years.

Ques. What are the eligibility criteria for the M.Sc. course at the Wildlife Institute of India?

Ans. To apply for an M.Sc at Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun, the candidate must have passed Graduation with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) in Life Science/ Medical Science/ Engineering/ Veterinary Science/ Agriculture/ Forestry/ Pharmacy/ Social Science/ Computer Science or degrees recognized as equivalent thereof. There should be a minimum of 15 years of formal education (either 10+2+3 or 11+2+2) to be eligible. Candidates who will be appearing at the qualifying (final) bachelor's degree examination and whose result is still awaited may also apply.

Ans. The Wildlife Institute of India conducts an online National Eligibility Test (NET) in one of its centres. The allocation of test centres would be decided by the institute based on the number of candidates registered for a particular centre. The NET will be for a 2-hour duration for 100 marks, with objective types of questions and essays, covering general aptitude, knowledge, analytical and language skills, basic mathematical and quantitative skills, and knowledge about basic biology, ecology and conservation issues.
