BMSIT BE ECE FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between KCET, COMEDK, and Management quota seats at BMSIT for ECE, and which is more competitive?

Ans. KCET seats are reserved for Karnataka domicile students and are regulated by the government, making them the most affordable (around Rs. 1.3 lakh per year). These seats are highly competitive and require a good KCET rank. COMEDK seats (40% of total intake) are open to PAN India students and are filled based on COMEDK UGET scores; fees are around Rs. 3.5 lakh per year. Management quota seats are filled directly by the BMS Educational Trust and have the highest fees (Rs. 5 lakh per year for ECE in 2026-27). For ECE specifically, KCET cutoffs at BMSIT tend to be moderate compared to CSE, making it relatively more accessible for Karnataka students with decent ranks.

Ques. Is BMSIT ECE NBA accredited, and does it matter for my career?

Ans. Yes, the ECE program at BMSIT is NBA (National Board of Accreditation) accredited. NBA accreditation signifies that the program meets defined standards of quality in terms of curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, and student outcomes. For students, it means the degree is recognized by professional bodies and can be advantageous when applying for government jobs, higher studies abroad (especially in countries that recognize Washington Accord signatories), and certain PSU recruitments that specifically require degrees from NBA-accredited institutions.

Ques. What are the core specialization areas and labs available in the ECE department at BMSIT?

Ans. The ECE department at BMSIT covers specializations including VLSI Design, Embedded Systems, Digital Signal Processing, RF and Microwave Engineering, and Communication Systems. The department has well-equipped labs such as the VLSI Lab, Embedded Systems Lab, Communication Lab, Microprocessor Lab, and Signal Processing Lab. The college also has a recognized research center under VTU for Electronics & Communication Engineering, which allows students to pursue research projects and interact with PhD scholars.

Ques. What kind of companies recruit ECE graduates from BMSIT, and what are typical roles offered?

Ans. ECE graduates from BMSIT are recruited by companies such as Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Accenture, Texas Instruments, Intel, Qualcomm, and various telecom companies. Typical roles include Embedded Software Engineer, VLSI Design Engineer, Network Engineer, Systems Engineer, and Software Developer (many ECE graduates also get placed in IT companies). The placement cell at BMSIT actively coordinates with companies for both core electronics and IT sector placements.

Ques. Can ECE students at BMSIT pursue M.Tech at the same college after graduation, and what is the process?

Ans. Yes, BMSIT offers M.Tech in VLSI System Design (intake: 24 seats) which is directly relevant to ECE graduates. Admission to M.Tech is through PGCET (Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test) for government quota seats, or through GATE scores / COMED-K PGET for other quota seats. Management quota M.Tech admissions are also available. The annual management fee for M.Tech VLSI at BMSIT is Rs. 2,50,000 for 2026-27. Students with a strong GATE score can also apply for PGCET-based admissions at a significantly lower fee.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for ECE students at BMSIT, and what is the process to apply?

Ans. Hostel accommodation at BMSIT is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. The total hostel capacity is 622 students (502 boys, 120 girls). Boys' hostels are located inside the campus, while the girls' hostel is at Yelahanka 4th Phase (approximately 4 km from campus), with college-provided transportation. Students need to apply separately using the hostel application form available on the BMSIT website. Hostel fees for 2025-26 are Rs. 1,54,000 per year for normal rooms and Rs. 1,82,000 for rooms with attached bathrooms. It is advisable to apply early as seats fill up quickly.
