BMSIT: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 56 Reviews

Admission to the college is available through several pathways, such as the Pardan Mantri Special Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir students, the CET by the Karnataka Examination Authority, or a Gulf Quota for international students, mainly from Kuwait. The Pardan Mantri scheme involves document submission to an AICTE representative. The CET pathway requires a nominal fee, with government payment seats costing 50,000 INR annually and an exam fee of 1,500 INR.

For Gulf Quota students, a minimum of 75% in the 12th CBSE exams is needed. Admission via the COMEDK exam is based on rank, followed by joint counseling. The college has two branches: BMSIT&M and BMSCE, the latter known for its engineering education. It employs around 40 lecturers, mostly with master's degrees and several with PhDs, offering a curriculum that includes project-based learning and regular assessments. Fees vary by admission type: management quota fees are about 3 lakhs per year, COMEDK students pay between 1.75 and 2 lakhs, and CET admissions are lower.

The Gulf quota fees are around 3.5 lakhs annually. Additional costs cover facilities like internet, annual events, and placements. The college boasts a strong placement record, with up to 98% of students placed, especially in IT branches, with an average salary package of 8 to 9 LPA and a maximum of 46 LPA. Prominent recruiters include Amazon, Microsoft, and TCS. Students can apply for placements starting in their 5th or 6th semester with a minimum CGPA of 7.0.

Internship stipends range from 10,000 to 80,000 INR. Financial assistance is offered through scholarships for Karnataka residents, backward classes, SC/ST categories, and outstanding academics or sports achievers. Tuition fees for KCET students range from 60,000 to 107,000 INR, while COMEDK students pay approximately 2,30,000 to 2,61,216 INR annually. Management quota fees are between 4,00,000 to 8,00,000 INR, with no scholarships available. Hostel and additional costs are separate. The fee structure remains stable throughout the course, with scholarship opportunities for eligible students.

BMSIT BE CSE FAQs

Ques. What makes BMSIT CSE stand out among Bangalore engineering colleges?

Ans. BMSIT CSE is one of the largest and most well-resourced CSE departments in Karnataka with an intake of 900 seats. The department has an NBA accreditation, a dedicated NVidia Center of Excellence for AI/GPU computing, an active IEEE-CS chapter, and a research centre established in 2014. Faculty members have been featured in Stanford/Elsevier's World's Top 2% Scientists list, and the department has consistently maintained placement rates above 91% for three consecutive years. The autonomous curriculum under VTU allows the department to integrate emerging technologies like AI/ML, cybersecurity, and blockchain into the syllabus.

Ques. What is the KCET cutoff for CSE at BMSIT?

Ans. KCET cutoffs for CSE at BMSIT vary each year based on the number of applicants and seat availability. Historically, the General Merit (GM) category cutoff rank for CSE at BMSIT has been in the range of 5,000-15,000 (KCET rank). SC/ST and OBC categories have higher rank cutoffs. Students are advised to check the official KEA website for the most recent year's cutoff data. For COMEDK, the cutoff rank for CSE at BMSIT has typically been in the range of 3,000-8,000.

Ques. What specialisations or electives are available in BE CSE at BMSIT?

Ans. As an autonomous institution under VTU, BMSIT offers a flexible curriculum for BE CSE with professional electives in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain Technology, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing. Students can choose electives based on their career interests from the 5th semester onwards. The department also offers interdisciplinary electives and value-added courses in collaboration with industry partners.

Ques. How are internships and industry projects handled for CSE students at BMSIT?

Ans. BMSIT CSE has strong industry-academia linkages with companies like Wipro, Mindtree, CDAC, Amazon, Microsoft, and several startups. Students are required to complete a mandatory internship as part of the curriculum. The department facilitates industry-supported student projects in collaboration with industry experts. Faculty members serve as trainers for Wipro and Mindtree, ensuring students get exposure to real-world tools and practices. The BICEP Incubation Centre on campus also supports student startups and entrepreneurial projects.

Ques. Is the CSE programme at BMSIT still NBA accredited?

Ans. The BE CSE programme at BMSIT was NBA accredited till June 2025. Students and parents are advised to check the current accreditation status directly with the college or on the NBA website (nbaind.org), as the renewal process may be ongoing. NBA accreditation is important for students planning to pursue higher studies abroad, as it is recognised under the Washington Accord for engineering degree equivalency.

Ques. What is the total fee for BE CSE at BMSIT under management quota and how does it compare to KCET quota?

Ans. Under management quota, the tuition fee for BE CSE at BMSIT is Rs. 7,50,000 per year, totalling approximately Rs. 31,16,440 over 4 years (including VTU and college charges). Under KCET government quota, the tuition fee is regulated by the Karnataka government and is significantly lower - typically in the range of Rs. 50,000-60,000 per year, making the total approximately Rs. 3-4 lakh over 4 years. COMEDK quota fees fall between these two. Students who secure a good KCET rank can save significantly on fees while getting the same quality of education.

The college fees is 107045 if you have been admitted through kcet, which in my opinion is very affordable.I feel the college provides excellent facilities for the fee I'm paying. The fees through comedk is 275000 and if you come through management for cse is 6 lakh per year+ donation. I think the fees is justifiable considering the quality of education, faculty, placement opportunities and overall learning experience. I it a definitely a good choice for anyone who wants to pursue a career in engineering computer science or other branches as well. I hope this helps! This is my personal suggestion and I'm sure most of the students feel the same! The best college you can go to!!
