St John's B.Sc ETCT FAQs
Ques. Is NEET required for admission to B.Sc. ETCT at St. John's Medical College?
Ans. No, NEET is not required for admission to B.Sc. ETCT at St. John's Medical College. Admission is based entirely on the college's own entrance examination, which is a 1-hour MCQ-based paper covering Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English from Class 11 and 12 syllabi. There is no negative marking. After the entrance exam, a merit list is prepared and candidates are called for interview cum seat counselling the next day, where seats are allocated based on rank and course preference.
Ques. With only 10 seats available, how competitive is the admission process for B.Sc. ETCT?
Ans. The B.Sc. ETCT programme at St. John's has only 10 seats per batch, making it one of the most competitive allied health science courses at the institution. Since all B.Sc. AHS courses share a common entrance exam and seat counselling, candidates are ranked together and choose their preferred course based on rank. Students who do not get ETCT in the first round may be placed on a course-wise waitlist, but they must take admission in an available course and pay fees to remain eligible for the waitlist. It is advisable to apply early and prepare well for the entrance exam.
Ques. What is the scope and career after completing B.Sc. ETCT from St. John's?
Ans. Graduates of B.Sc. ETCT can work as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Trauma Care Technicians, Emergency Room Technicians, Ambulance Technicians, and Critical Care Assistants in hospitals, trauma centres, ambulance services, and air ambulance companies. With experience, roles such as ER Supervisor, Trauma Care Coordinator, and Disaster Management Specialist are accessible. Starting salaries for fresh graduates typically range from Rs. 2.5 to Rs. 4 lakh per annum, rising to Rs. 5 to Rs. 8 lakh per annum with 3 to 5 years of experience. The growing demand for trained emergency care professionals in India, especially post-COVID, has significantly improved job prospects in this field.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for B.Sc. ETCT students at St. John's?
Ans. Hostel accommodation is available for outstation students but is not guaranteed, as it is subject to availability. Students who wish to avail hostel facilities must have a local guardian and fill a separate local guardian form at the time of admission. It is compulsory for all hostelites to be members of the hostel mess. Hostel fees (including mess) range from approximately Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 1,14,000 per year depending on the room type (single, double, triple, or four-sharing). Students are advised to apply for hostel accommodation early.

Ans. Yes, students from outside Karnataka can apply. However, candidates from boards other than the Karnataka Pre-University Board must obtain an Eligibility Certificate from RGUHS at the time of admission. The entrance exam and counselling process is the same for all candidates. Outstation students should note that hostel availability is not guaranteed and they must arrange for a local guardian in Bangalore. Additionally, government scholarships from Karnataka (such as post-matric scholarships) are generally available only to Karnataka domicile students.
