Lady Hardinge Medical College: 35 Answered Questions

How was your experience in Lady Hardinge Medical College??

GarnetGazelle

Lady Hardinge Medical College has been a great choice for my MBBS. The hostel facilities are decent, and the mess food is quite good, with a varied menu. The library is open 24/7, which is a huge plus for studying.

Although the course can be intense, with term exams every couple of months, the support from faculty and seniors really helps. Plus, the location in Delhi is convenient for both studies and social life.

Which college is better UCMS or LHMC for someone living in Delhi?

GildedGull

Honestly, I think Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) is a better option for someone living in Delhi. The fee structure is incredibly affordable; it’s just around Rs. 1300 per year, which is a steal for an MBBS course. The faculty here is top-notch, with doctors who have graduated from reputed colleges and are genuinely dedicated to teaching. Plus, the campus life is vibrant with events like the annual fest Splash and various societies that cater to different interests. I feel like the overall environment and opportunities here are just better suited for a budding doctor.

How is life in LHMC??

RaidRabbit

I started my time at LHMC in the 2016–2017 session, and it's been an amazing journey so far. Right now, we're celebrating 100 years of our college, and there are a ton of events and activities for the centenary. When we joined, we were welcomed with the centenary convocation and our annual cultural fest, Splash. Our college is linked with Sucheta Kripalani Hospital and Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital, which are renowned in Asia for Gynaecology and Paediatrics. We also go to Dr. RML Hospital for classes and postings. The campus is a bit small, and there's been reconstruction happening for a while now. We have active societies that help in the overall development of students. Since it’s an all-girls college, we learn to manage and organize events independently, like with Splash. The teachers here are really supportive, encouraging us to engage in student-led activities and take part in research programs by ICMR. LHMC boasts many well-known professionals from the medical field.

Some people think life in an all-girls college is dull, but from my experience, it doesn't matter whether it's co-ed or not. If you want to enjoy college life, you'll find a way. LH offers plenty of chances to have fun. Located in the heart of Connaught Place, everything you need is nearby. The area is safe, and transport is never a problem.

Our seniors are incredibly supportive, and there's no hazing here. They go out of their way to help us newbies, whom they affectionately call fucchas. The newly renovated auditorium is one of the best I've seen.

I can’t speak about the hostel facilities as I'm a day scholar. Overall, LHMC is a wonderful college with a rich heritage. Hardonians earn respect globally and excel in various fields. I’m excited about the next five years here!

Hope this helps answer your question.

I have very high chances of getting admission in LHMC New Delhi for UG seat. Should I take admission at LHMC? Will the distance between my state and Delhi be somewhat regrettable later?

GhostlyGourmet

Securing a spot at LHMC is a fantastic opportunity, and I wouldn't worry too much about the distance. Here are a few reasons why it's a great choice:

First off, LHMC is among the top medical colleges in India, and having its name on your degree is pretty valuable.

You'll also benefit from a NEET PG quota, which is a huge plus. Just ask anyone who's been through the preparation—it's a big advantage.

Living in Delhi, the capital city, offers a lot more than just education. You'll experience a vibrant lifestyle, better food options, and more exposure compared to smaller towns.

Lastly, while many PG courses are now online, if you prefer in-person learning, Delhi is a hub for PG coaching centers. This could be handy for your studies.

How is life in LHMC? Is there ragging racism? What are the societies there?

HiddenHyena

Life at LHMC is a mix of hard work and fun experiences. The MBBS program is rigorous, with frequent exams and a lot of content to cover, but the faculty is excellent and always ready to help. We have a lively campus life with events like Splash and Cobweb, which really bring everyone together.

From my experience, there's no significant ragging or racism; the environment feels quite inclusive. The societies, like the dance society Viola and the music society Aarohana, are very active and add to the overall experience.

What are some of the pros and cons of studying at Lady Hardinge Medical College??

NappingNarwhal

Positive aspects: Lady Hardinge Medical College is ranked around 5th among medical colleges in India, which is quite impressive. The faculty is solid, and there's a competitive atmosphere. Plus, its location is really convenient. It's close to the railway station, and there's a bus stop right across from the college. You're also near Janpath for shopping and Connaught Place is just a short walk away.

On the downside: There are several negatives. There aren't any undergraduate boys, and the male postgraduates often interact with interns. The hostel conditions can be pretty bad sometimes, like having no WiFi. If you don't have a boyfriend or guy friends in Delhi, you might feel bored being mostly around girls, unless you're into that. Also, the food isn't great.

I joined LHMC this year instead of any peripheral AIIMS I could have got. Now everyone is saying they will be better in a few years and I'm freaking out now?

Sayantani Barman
Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

No, you certainly made the right choice by choosing LGMC over any other peripheral AIIMS. I have seen many medical aspirants run after the AIIMS tag and choose a peripheral AIIMS only to regret it later. Only the ones that have been established for about 5–6 years are worth taking admission in.

In my opinion, it’s better to go for a medical college that has a legacy of more than 10 years as it will be better academically, environmentally, and even in terms of the campus life it offers. Choosing LHMC will expose you to better opportunities especially because of its prime location in CP. Moreover, it also has Delhi Quota for MD. The clinical exposure is also unmatched and the internship opportunities will be plentiful.

So, put your worries to rest as you have made a wise decision by choosing LHMC over a peripheral AIIMS.

Which is currently better - LHMC or UCMS?

Sanjana KapoorLives in New Delhi

The best way to determine the ‘better’ college is to go through the highlights of both LHMC and UCMS

LHMC:

  1. Its location in CP gives it an edge over UCMS.
  2. The first-year curriculum is more rigorous than that at UCMS preparing students for future challenges.
  3. LHMC has a wide variety of fully functioning societies and many competitions and fests help to make the campus life lively.
  4. LGMC also holds the Medicus Conventus, an annual medical conference, conducted by Mediquest which is the official medical society of the college. Students are provided with hands-on experience in suturing, research, and many more things.
  5. The SLMs or the Student Leadership Mission is a body comprising professors and students who join to raise awareness about sex, contraceptives, tobacco, organ donation, etc
  6. No gender stereotypes because it’s an all-girls college.
  7. It’s Fest, Splash is better than UCMS Fest Ripple.

UCMS:

  1. The curriculum is less rigorous so that students can dwell deeper into the subjects. Students are given a lot of holidays frequently.
  2. UCMS has active and functional societies as well. Its most famous drama society, Manchayan, has participated in various colleges.
  3. They have a bigger campus area which has a decent metro connection.
  4. It’s a Coed college so the exposure and crowd diversity is better.
  5. UCMS has better hostels and students are allotted single occupancy rooms right from the first year.

Both colleges are similar in terms of academics, degrees awarded, and functional societies so choose the one that aligns with your preferences.
