Ans. We have witnessed a shift from the EE department to the CSE department due to advancements in computer science. Today, CS is indispensable in every field. AI field is similarly gaining momentum and is expected to reach heights in the future. To make the most out of AI, some universities have started including this course in their current curriculum while the more passionate ones have chosen to create a separate department dedicated to it. For instance, MIT and CMU have recognized the hidden potential of AI and are already establishing a separate department for it. Many are concerned if IIT Hyderabad will be able to tap the potential of AI rightly or not. However, the MTech in Machine Learning Program offered by IIT Hyderabad is a living example of how well they will be able to establish the AI branch as well.  IIT Hyderabad has some great faculty both in the CSE and EE Department who have great experiences in the field of machine learning, computer vision, speech and image processing, NLP, text processing, statistics and probability, etc. However, it’s recommended that people go through the curriculum and talk to seniors before taking up this course. Ans. IIT Hyderabad is the first institute in India to launch a BTech program on AI engineering. After 2 years, you are left to choose a specialization of your choice.  Suitability: This course is for those who are in a dilemma regarding the choice of branches but you are willing to explore various fields. It’s definitely worth the risk. Curriculum: The first year is similar to other branches. The second year comprises courses from all disciplines like data structures, electrical circuits, solid and fluid mechanics, digital signal processing, etc. The third year will require you to choose the specialization in which you will be doing your courses. Ans. You seemed to have performed quite well considering your JEE rank and BITSAT score. While most board toppers fail to do well in competitive exams, you managed to excellently score well in all competitive exams. You seem to have great opportunities ahead if you join BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, and CSE. considering your ranks and your being a board topper, you can easily maintain an 8 +. The only major drawback is the high fees for which you can seek assistance from the institute regarding scholarships.  Here are a few pros of BITS Pilani CSE Top-notch placements Excellent exposure A flexible college life with responsibilities If you face serious financial issues and are unable to get BITS, don't lose hope as other colleges offer great opportunities too. The best way to determine the worth of an institute is to evaluate it on the basis of fees, placements, campus life, and academic and professional exposure. Ques. Which would be better for a B.Tech in mechanical engineering: IIT Hyderabad or IIT Guwahati? Why?

Although both IIT Hyderabad and IIT Guwahati are excellent engineering institutes, my knowledge is limited to the BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Hyderabad as my sister is a recent pass out of the same. Research: IIT Hyderabad in general and its Mechanical branch specifically focuses on invention and innovation. You will be astonished to know that currently there are more than 100 ongoing research and consultancy projects under the faculty and students. The research culture at IIT Hyderabad is stronger than many older IITs even. IIT Hyderabad is known globally for MS and Ph. Ds placements. The new IIT tag: Being one of the new IITs, it lacks the credibility of the IIT tag. However, it’s the contrary. Being new, it guarantees better facilities and well-equipped labs. The mechanical department has been upgraded with equipment worth 70 crores over the last few years. The Institute has one of the best research environments in the country. Culture: At IIT Hyderabad you have to learn to master balancing your extracurriculars alongside your academics. You cannot afford to lose on any kind of experience that IIT Hyderabad has to offer. Exploring everything will help you hone your talents to the fullest and identify your passions. Ques. What is the importance of a CGPA for a B.Tech (CSE) student to get a good campus placement at Nit Warangal?

Ans. I have said this many times and will say it again, one should never underestimate the value a CGPA holds in shaping your career. Don’t fall for the trap ‘Grades don’t Matter’ because they do and to a great extent. This can be further understood through the following anecdote that revolves around two of my closest friends. Both of them were CSE students at NIT Rourkela. Both were regular in their classes and completed their assignments on time. However, by the end of the 3rd year, one friend scored a CGPA of 6.90 while the other ended up getting a 7.05 CGPA . During the placements, most top companies like Microsoft, Uber, De-shaw, Arcesium, Visa, and Samsung set their cutoffs to 7 CGPA. Students who did not qualify for this weren’t eligible to sit for their placements. The friend with the higher CGPA appeared in the interview for several companies and ended up with a good role and package while the other friend with slightly less but below 7 CGP could not even sit for their placements. Eventually, he got placed in an average company with a low package. The core lesson from this anecdote is that CGPA matters a lot during placements, especially for the best companies. Ans. First year at NIT Warangal Is common for students of all branches. The first year is the most exciting year filled with a number of dynamic events round the year. The first year witnesses two annual festivals SpringSpree , the cultural festival  Technozion , the technical festival These festivals give you enough memories to last a lifetime.  First-year students are allotted the Ultra Mega Hostel also known as 1.8k which is Asia’s biggest hostel. The hostel has a total of 9 floors connected with lifts and endless corridors. Life here is never dull even for a second. The students are provided 24/7 high speed unlimited internet connection and WiFi. Additionally, the vast DC++ internal college network provides instant access to hundreds of TB of movies, TV series and games. The CSE department has an excellent academic environment with a plethora of job opportunities in huge firms like Google and Microsoft. Additionally, you get the chances to pursue research internships or MS top foreign universities. So, the life of a first year student at NIT Warangal is filled with a lot of exciting events and memories!Read more

Ques. Should I join NIT Warangal for CSE or a new IIT with civil engineering?

Ans. I always recommend people give preference to branches over the institute. This is because if you go for a less preferred branch, you will end up taking a software job anyways. So it’s better to choose a NIT instead of an IIT provided that you get CSE.  If you join the CSE branch at NIT Warangal you will develop software skills and succeed in the field rather than taking up the job just because you had no other options in Civil. The exposure offered to CSE in NIT Warangal is great and students can be seen participating in coding competitions that enhance their coding abilities tenfold. You end up becoming a skilled programmer and not an average programmer who had to choose the field unwillingly.  So, joining NI MT Warangal CSE is a better option than joining Civil Engineering at a new IIT unless you want to get government jobs like IES, Civil services. Read more

To get admission into NITW, you need to secure a certain rank in the JEE Mains exam.  These are the closing ranks for round 6 of JoSAA counseling to get admission into these branches at NIT Warangal, for 2023: Course Quota  Seat-Type Gender Closing Rank CSE HS Open Gender-neutral 3115 CSE OS Open Gender-neutral 2413 ECE HS Open Gender-neutral 6516 ECE OS Open Gender-neutral 5814 ECE (VLSI) HS Open Gender-neutral 7103 ECE (VLSI) OS Open Gender-neutral 7047 EEE HS Open Gender-neutral 11388 EEE OS Open Gender-neutral 9265 Out of the branches mentioned by you, NIT Warangal does not provide B.Tech IT. You can also check the 2023-2024 cutoffs of other branches and categories for NITW However, I would like to tell highlight a few things- Electronics and Electrical value your ability to remember random figures rather than polishing your technical knowledge.  The syllabus and question paper for both these courses is below par at NIT Warangal. The syllabus for them is outdated. Placements are high at NITW, but software profiles are mostly offered.  Most students start coding from their pre-final year because of low placement chances in the core companies of other disciplines.  The college infrastructure and hostel facilities may disappoint you.  Government colleges other than IIT D, B, and K are lagging behind in reality. They have subpar infrastructure and their administration is old and rigid. They offer no extra support and opportunities to their students. All of this combined with the rigorous academic schedule causes plenty of frustration. Read more

Ques. Which is better for CSE, NIT Warangal or Surathkal?

Ans. In my opinion, if you are getting a top NIT, then choosing CSE will be a better decision unless you are interested in any other specific branch. As far as comparing the CSE branch in Warangal and Surathkal, both offer similar opportunities and academic experience.  Given all the similarities, choosing one between these two NITs depends more on your personal choices such as proximity to home and crowd. If you are from the home state of Karnataka choose Surathkal but if you are from the home state of Warangal, choose NIT Warangal. I would recommend you to go for NIT Warangal as it has better opportunities if you are inclined towards research. The alumni base is huge and there is even an innovation garage where the ideas of students are implemented. Read more
