Ques. What do you think of IIT Hyderabad launching India's first B Tech in artificial Intelligence?

Ans. We have witnessed a shift from the EE department to the CSE department due to advancements in computer science. Today, CS is indispensable in every field. AI field is similarly gaining momentum and is expected to reach heights in the future. To make the most out of AI, some universities have started including this course in their current curriculum while the more passionate ones have chosen to create a separate department dedicated to it. For instance, MIT and CMU have recognized the hidden potential of AI and are already establishing a separate department for it. Many are concerned if IIT Hyderabad will be able to tap the potential of AI rightly or not. However, the MTech in Machine Learning Program offered by IIT Hyderabad is a living example of how well they will be able to establish the AI branch as well.  IIT Hyderabad has some great faculty both in the CSE and EE Department who have great experiences in the field of machine learning, computer vision, speech and image processing, NLP, text processing, statistics and probability, etc. However, it’s recommended that people go through the curriculum and talk to seniors before taking up this course. Ans. IIT Hyderabad is the first institute in India to launch a BTech program on AI engineering. Its uniqueness lies in the wide spectrum of specializations it offers enabling you to explore all your interests and options.  Course Structure: The basic structure of the course comprises basic sciences like Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and different engineering disciplines including Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical Engineering in the initial years. After 2 years, you are left to choose a specialization of your choice.  Suitability: This course is for those who are in a dilemma regarding the choice of branches but you are willing to explore various fields. It’s definitely worth the risk. Curriculum: The first year is similar to other branches. The second year comprises courses from all disciplines like data structures, electrical circuits, solid and fluid mechanics, digital signal processing, etc. The third year will require you to choose the specialization in which you will be doing your courses. Ans. You seemed to have performed quite well considering your JEE rank and BITSAT score. While most board toppers fail to do well in competitive exams, you managed to excellently score well in all competitive exams. You seem to have great opportunities ahead if you join BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, and CSE. considering your ranks and your being a board topper, you can easily maintain an 8 +. The only major drawback is the high fees for which you can seek assistance from the institute regarding scholarships.  Here are a few pros of BITS Pilani CSE Top-notch placements Excellent exposure A flexible college life with responsibilities If you face serious financial issues and are unable to get BITS, don't lose hope as other colleges offer great opportunities too. The best way to determine the worth of an institute is to evaluate it on the basis of fees, placements, campus life, and academic and professional exposure. Ques. Which would be better for a B.Tech in mechanical engineering: IIT Hyderabad or IIT Guwahati? Why?

Although both IIT Hyderabad and IIT Guwahati are excellent engineering institutes, my knowledge is limited to the BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Hyderabad as my sister is a recent pass out of the same. Research: IIT Hyderabad in general and its Mechanical branch specifically focuses on invention and innovation. You will be astonished to know that currently there are more than 100 ongoing research and consultancy projects under the faculty and students. The research culture at IIT Hyderabad is stronger than many older IITs even. IIT Hyderabad is known globally for MS and Ph. Ds placements. The new IIT tag: Being one of the new IITs, it lacks the credibility of the IIT tag. However, it’s the contrary. Being new, it guarantees better facilities and well-equipped labs. The mechanical department has been upgraded with equipment worth 70 crores over the last few years. The Institute has one of the best research environments in the country. Culture: At IIT Hyderabad you have to learn to master balancing your extracurriculars alongside your academics. You cannot afford to lose on any kind of experience that IIT Hyderabad has to offer. Exploring everything will help you hone your talents to the fullest and identify your passions. Ans. IIT Gandhinagar CSE is a well-regarded program and despite being newly launched it has gained popularity in a short time period. This in itself is a testament to the quality of education offered here. The institute fairs well in almost all aspects be it faculty, opportunities, internships, and projects, etc.  The new IITs have their own weaknesses and strengths. Even the departments within an institute are not at the same level. The CSE department of IIT Gandhinagar is certainly superior among other branches of the institute and the institute itself is better than other new IITs.  The professors here have high qualifications and a strong research profile.  In all, you should certainly join CAE at IIT Gandhinagar if you want to experience a good campus life, with locational advantages, and excellent placements. Read more

Ans. IIT Gandhinagar has a great CSE department. The professors are among the best in India. Almost 50% of the faculty members are from the industry. So, you will get hands-on learning experience and in-depth knowledge about the current trends in the industry.  IITGN has a high-performing computer lab and two departmental labs with a capacity of 100 computers each. The research interface of the department is something the institute boasts about. Professors actively take part in cutting-edge research projects.  Companies such as IOCL, Goldman Sachs, ISRO, ITC, etc. recruit CSE students through IIT Gandhinagar placements. Ans. When it comes to IITs it’s not really easy to compare them especially when these both are of the same generation. However, if you still need to compare it is important for you to understand that an undergraduate degree is more of an exploration to discover your passion and interest. This hypothesis has been vetted by a large number of IIT graduates, IIM graduates, and many professors and IIT alums. Let’s take a few examples for a case in point. Dr. Raghuram Rajan, a top IIT alum studied electrical at IIT, followed up with an MBA at IIM and then a Ph.D. from MIT to become an economist. Also, the TVF guy (Jeetu bhaiya from the Kota Factory) did undergrad from IIT Kharagpur only to become a comedian and actor later. Interesting isn’t it? Flexibility: So now that you understand the importance of flexibility and passion, IIT Gandhinagar stands out here undoubtedly. The curriculum at IIT Gandhinagar is very flexible and it allows you to study anything under the sun. This flexibility is the reason behind the success of Many IIT Gandhinagar graduates. Apart from that, IIT Gandhinagar has the most funds among the second generation IITs. It offers around 30–40% of the batch with options to pursue foreign internships and great research opportunities. Location: If you compare IIT Ropar with IIT Gandhinagar, the latter takes the trophy again because it is situated in Gandhinagar which is the capital of Gujarat. The campus sits in the vicinity of CM residence, Vidhan Sabha, ambitious GIFT City project, prominent institutes such as DAIICT, NIFT, and many others. Placement: Placements at IIT Gandhinagar is excellent. The first CSE batch graduated in 2020. Without CSE only, firms such as Nutanix, Goldman Sachs, ITC, Barclays, etc. have been recruiting at the campus.  Alumni: IIT Gandhinagar has to date graduated about 600+ students from BTech and at least 80–90% of them are quite successful. You can see alums are working in firms such as Mckinsey, Microsoft in the US, Amazon, Apple, BCG, ATK, Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, ITC, PnG, to name a few. Ans. The choice of the institute between IIT Gandhinagar CSE  and IIT Guwahati ECE depends if you want to follow the branch of your interest or want just go for the brand name of the institute.  If you value a branch more than a brand then go for the institute that offers the branch of your choice. If you are inclined towards CSE, then go for IIT Gandhinagar without much hesitation. Despite being a new IIT, it offers the IT tag and education at par with most IITs. Don’t let the fact that it’s a new IIT demotivate you. The students maketh the college and not vice versa. But if you are bothered by the brand value and are hesitant about joining a new IIT, then go for IIT Guwahati.Read more

Ans. If you take my opinion then opting for IIT Gandhinagar for CSE is a better choice than going for ECE at IIT Guwahati. I am a student of IIT Gandhinagar and I can say that the CSE department is one of the best departments in terms of curriculums and placements. IIT Gandhinagar offers 4 years full-time BTech program for CSE. The average course fee for the first year is around INR 2.29 Lakhs . IIT Gandhinagar holds a ranking of 18th position out of 200 colleges in the NIRF ranking. The placement scenario for the department is good with 94.44% of students being placed in 2023 The median package is INR 25.06 LPA and the average package is INR 29.29 LPA.Read more
