The MBA at NALSAR runs for two years. The Department of Management Studies, or DoMS, delivers it. Sanctioned intake is 132 seats, with 33 for Telangana residents.
The programme fits freshers from BBA, B.Com and BA degrees. It also fits candidates below IIM-level percentiles. Below 70 percentile in CAT or XAT, N-MET-PG applies. A GMAT score of 600 or below triggers it too.
Two-year cost works out to about INR 8.79 Lakh with deposits. The 2022-24 batch averaged INR 7.49 LPA. Applications are filed at apply.nalsar.ac.in.

How a Law University MBA Differs From a Regular MBA?
DoMS sits inside a law university, not a standalone business school. That shapes the syllabus.
Year one covers general management, marketing, HR, finance and operations. Strategy, data analytics and law are also core.
Year two opens up electives. Options include corporate governance, business regulations, entrepreneurship and sustainability. AI, data science, business ethics and cyber security also feature.
Teaching uses case studies and role plays. Industry Relevant Credit Courses are taught by working practitioners. Students complete three internships across the two years.
NALSAR ranked 3rd in the NIRF 2025 law category. The brand strength sits in law, not management. That is the trade-off a candidate accepts here.

Who Should Choose the NALSAR MBA?
Candidates Scoring Below IIM-Level Percentiles
The programme accepts CAT, XAT, GMAT and its own N-MET-PG score. A low CAT percentile does not close the door. It only redirects the candidate to N-MET-PG.
Example: a CAT percentile of 68 cannot be used directly. The same candidate can register and appear for N-MET-PG instead. A candidate at 74 percentile skips the test entirely.

Aspirants Targeting Compliance and Governance Roles
Corporate governance and business regulations sit inside the elective pool. Recruiters have hired DoMS students into compliance roles. Tax consulting and risk profiles also appear in the mix.
This is the clearest reason to pick a law university MBA. A regulatory affairs or compliance career needs this subject depth. A general B-school elective rarely goes as deep.
Freshers From Non-Engineering Degrees
The 2022-24 batch was 64 percent freshers. Another 30 percent held under one year of work experience. Only 6 percent held two to five years.
BBA graduates made up 32 percent and B.Com 24 percent. BA took 22 percent, engineering 13 percent and B.Sc 9 percent. A commerce or humanities graduate is no outlier here.
Women Candidates and Telangana Residents
Horizontal reservation covers 30 percent, or 39 seats, for female candidates. The 2022-24 batch was 66 percent female. Another 5 percent, or 6 seats, goes to persons with benchmark disabilities.
Telangana residents compete for 33 seats under the state category. Eligibility needs four consecutive years of study in Telangana. A second route needs four years of residence in the past seven.
Who Should Look Elsewhere?
The programme is not built for consulting or investment banking targets. The 2022-24 batch reported a highest package of INR 12 LPA. A 95 percentile CAT scorer will find better return elsewhere.
Batch strength on paper is 132 seats. Students report actual cohorts closer to 50 to 60. A smaller cohort means a smaller alumni base.
Candidates expecting a law qualification should also reconsider. The MBA teaches business law and regulation. It does not grant the right to practise.

NALSAR MBA Eligibility and Entrance Exam Routes
N-MET-PG stands for the NALSAR Management Entrance Test. The base requirement is a bachelor degree in any discipline. Aggregate marks must be 50 percent or above.
Final-year students awaiting results can also apply.
High Court Deputy Registrars and Assistant Registrars form a separate eligible group. Their High Court must nominate them. For everyone else, the entrance score decides the route.
| Entrance Exam | Score Held | N-MET-PG Required |
|---|---|---|
| CAT | 70 percentile or above | No |
| CAT | Below 70 percentile | Yes |
| XAT | 70 percentile or above | No |
| XAT | Below 70 percentile | Yes |
| GMAT | Above 600 | No |
| GMAT | 600 or below | Yes |
N-MET-PG is an online proctored test of 100 questions. The duration is two hours. Data interpretation and quantitative ability carry 40 percent weightage.
Language ability and logical reasoning carry 30 percent. Business aptitude carries the remaining 30 percent. Foreign nationals are exempt from the test and apply directly.
Shortlisted candidates then face a group discussion and a personal interview. A statement of purpose is also required.
| Selection Component | Weightage |
|---|---|
| Entrance score (N-MET-PG, CAT, XAT or GMAT) | 50% |
| Group Discussion | 20% |
| Personal Interview | 20% |
| Statement of Purpose | 10% |
Half the weight sits outside the exam. An average test score plus a sharp interview can still convert.
