When to Apply for Accommodations in Stanford University?

International students must follow the below given timelines for applying to accommodations in Stanford University:

• For the autumn quarter, students should apply to the annual autumn draw.
• Students who miss the Autumn Draw deadline and want to house for the Winter or Spring Quarter should apply during one of the future assignment rounds.
• For spring semester applications, the rolling deadline is from February 10 to May 3, 2024.
• The undergraduate process for selecting houses and rooms will take place between July 10 and July 14. If you fail to choose a room by this deadline, there will be a random assignment to a house and room within your neighbourhood.

Applications are reviewed in a sequence of application numbers, therefore the lower the number, the faster a student's application will be examined. The best numbers (the lowest ones) are assigned at random to students who apply for housing by the Lottery deadline. Those who fail to meet this deadline will be assigned a sequential number according to the submission date of their application.

How do you Withdraw an Application?

Withdrawing an application is free of charge. After the application deadline, students will not be able to withdraw their applications. An administrative fee ranging from 100-450 USD (8,200 to 36,900 INR) will be levied if a student is assigned housing and then cancels that arrangement. 

Stanford University Dorms Selection Criteria

Stanford R&DE Student Housing provides housing to matriculated (degree-seeking) undergraduate and graduate students. However, before applying, we would recommend you to check out the approximate cost of living in USA. It will help you in the preparation of the budget. The points are mentioned below for the selection criteria of Stanford accommodations:

• To be eligible for Stanford housing, students must be considered enrolled by the Office of the Registrar.
• Undergraduate students who are not enrolled full-time must have a 13th Quarter petition accepted or a Permit to Attend for Services Only.
• Housing is available to graduate students permitted by the Office of the Registrar to enrol in a graduation quarter.
• Housing is not available to students auditing classes or enrolled in the Master of Liberal Arts part-time graduate program.
• Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 8 units or be on the verge of graduating (TGR, TMR).
• Honours co-op students are not often enrolled in 8 or more units, hence they are not eligible for graduate housing.
• Students enrolled in at least 8 units are given priority, followed by matriculated students enrolling in fewer than 8 units.
• After matriculated students, non-matriculated students are assigned.

Students must contact Housing Assignments immediately if their status changes to non-matriculated after they are assigned to university housing. Students who successfully petition may be allowed to reside in housing for one quarter after receiving their degree without enrolling. Graduate students are eligible for Stanford University hostel if they are enrolled in a graduation quarter through the Registrar's office. Requests for post-graduation quarters are only considered once all other students have been accommodated.
