FAQs
Question: How can I submit my application to Central Michigan University?
Answer: To submit your application to Central Michigan University (CMU), you need to follow a few steps based on your applicant type. For undergraduate applicants, you can apply online through CMU's application portal or the Common Application. You'll need to provide your official high school or college transcripts, and submitting SAT/ACT scores is optional, as CMU has a test-optional policy. Additionally, you’ll need to pay a non-refundable application fee, although fee waivers are available for eligible students.
For graduate applicants, you should first explore the available programs and select one that aligns with your academic goals. Then, complete the online application, submit your official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions, and provide proof of English proficiency if you're from a non-English-speaking country (typically through TOEFL or IELTS scores).
Some programs may also require additional materials like letters of recommendation, personal statements, or GRE scores. For any questions, you can reach out to CMU’s admissions team via email or phone, and detailed instructions are available on their website.
Question: How can I increase my chances of getting into Central Michigan University?
Answer: To increase your chances of getting into Central Michigan University (CMU), focus on maintaining a strong GPA (preferably above 3.0 for undergraduates) and taking challenging coursework. Submitting strong SAT/ACT scores can help, though CMU is test-optional. Get involved in extracurriculars, leadership roles, and community service.
For graduate applicants, a competitive GPA (typically 2.7 or higher) is important, and standardised test scores like the GRE may be required for some programs. Ensure your application includes all required materials, such as a statement of purpose, recommendation letters, and proof of English proficiency (for international students). Lastly, apply early and meet all program-specific requirements.
Question: Is it hard to get into Central Michigan University?
Answer: Getting into Central Michigan University (CMU) is generally not considered very difficult, especially for undergraduate applicants, with an acceptance rate of approximately 91%. Graduate admissions, however, are more competitive, with a lower acceptance rate of around 37%.
For international applicants, the acceptance rate for undergraduate students is somewhat lower, with 52.8% for freshmen and 58.1% for transfer students, reflecting additional challenges such as higher competition and extra requirements. Overall, CMU offers accessible admission for undergraduates but more selectivity for graduate programs and international students.

You could apply for a Graduate/Teaching assistance ship which would help you earn some bucks while you’re at university. - Your tuition fee is also waived off for the semesters you are working as GA or TA. It is competitive to get into, you need to prove you are capable of such a position.

Scholarship
- I received a scholarship for my studies and the GPA I got in my bachelor’s degree. This is given to students who have 3.0 and more than that out of 4.
- Also, every student can apply for a graduate assistantship, which is open to all. Every semester we have this chance to apply. Criteria is we have to have 4 GPa and good communication skills.
- My batchmates also received the scholarship, as they also have 3 GPA. Mostly every year, 30 to 40 students get the scholarships and graduate assistantships.
