Oregon State University Eligibility for Indian Students
Oregon State University follows a broadly access-oriented model — it admits most applicants who clear its stated academic and English thresholds, and does not use the sub-10% selective bar that Ivy-tier universities apply. Indian applicants are evaluated on Class XII marks (or Bachelor’s marks for graduate entry) plus English proficiency, with test scores like SAT or GRE now optional at most levels.
- UG general entry: Class XII with an unweighted 75% (3.0 GPA on 4.0) across 15 required subject areas.
- UG transfer: 24+ transferable credits earned with a 2.25+ GPA, plus C- or better in college-level Math and Writing.
- PG entry: Four-year bachelor’s degree with a cumulative B average — 3.00 GPA on the US 4.0 scale (~65%).
- Post-baccalaureate: Bachelor’s from a recognised institution with a 2.25+ GPA.
Oregon State University English Test Minimums
OSU accepts multiple English tests. For direct undergraduate and most graduate admission the minimums are:
- TOEFL iBT: 80 overall, with each sub-score at 16 or higher.
- IELTS Academic: 6.5 (direct); 6.0 for transitional/pathway admission.
- Duolingo English Test: 105 (direct); 90 for pathway.
- PTE Academic: 58 (direct); 50 for pathway.
- MBA and MS Business: higher floor — IELTS 7.0, TOEFL iBT 91, Duolingo 130.
Oregon State University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Indian applicants can be exempted from IELTS or TOEFL under any of the following, per OSU’s international admissions policy:
- IGCSE O-Level or A-Level English with a grade of C or better.
- IB Diploma Language A (English) with a minimum score of 5.
- AP English Language and Composition with a score of 3 or higher.
- Completion of two full-time semesters at a US institution with a 3.0+ GPA in a rigorous programme.
- A completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university in an English-speaking country listed in the OSU policy.
Note: Programme-specific entry requirements and English floors may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Oregon State University page for your chosen programme before applying.

Oregon State University UG Programs for Indian Applicants
Oregon State University offers 200+ undergraduate majors across the Corvallis and Bend (Cascades) campuses. Non-resident base tuition for a full-time undergraduate is around $39,105 per year (₹37.37 Lakhs) for 2026-27. Indian first-year applicants can use either the Common Application or the OSU direct application, and are strongly encouraged to apply by the Priority round for scholarship consideration.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS Computer Science | 4 years | Class XII at 75%+ with Mathematics through Class XII | IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 |
| BS Business Analytics | 4 years | Class XII at 75%+ with Mathematics | IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 |
| BS Finance | 4 years | Class XII at 75%+ with Mathematics | IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 |
| BS Management | 4 years | Class XII at 75%+ (any stream) | IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 |
| BS Architectural Engineering | 4 years | Class XII at 75%+ with Physics and Mathematics | IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 |
Insider note: OSU treats CBSE and ISC Class XII marks at face value — you do not need a WES evaluation for undergraduate entry. State board applicants sometimes benefit from attaching Class X marks and 11th-standard reports to make the academic profile easier to read.
Oregon State University MBA Admission and Rounds
The Oregon State MBA is delivered by the AACSB-accredited College of Business, with full-time, professional (part-time) and online formats. Admission is test-optional — GMAT, GRE and the Executive Assessment are reviewed if submitted but never required. For Fall 2027 entry the College of Business runs a priority-round structure with a hard final deadline of 1 June 2027.
Oregon State University MBA Eligibility for Indian Applicants
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a 3.0/4.0 GPA (~65%) from a recognised institution.
- Work experience: full-time MBA prefers 2+ years; professional and online MBA typically expect 3-5 years of relevant work; no mandatory floor is published.
- Two professional or academic letters of recommendation, a résumé and a personal statement.
- English proficiency: IELTS 7.0, TOEFL iBT 91, or Duolingo 130 — higher than the university-wide floor.
Oregon State MBA Interview and Decision Timeline
Shortlisted candidates are invited to a virtual admissions interview with the MBA office — the interview is behavioural and career-oriented rather than case-based, typically 30-40 minutes long. Decisions land in rolling waves, so applying in a priority round (usually 15 October, 15 January, 15 March) improves the odds of scholarship consideration compared to the June final round.
Reality check: The full-time MBA at OSU is a smaller cohort than at flagship US MBAs, but that also means class access is high and the College of Business team responds to Indian applicant queries quickly — use that when you plan your file.
Oregon State University PhD Admission for Indian Students
Oregon State University offers doctoral programmes across engineering, computer science, ocean and earth sciences, forestry, life sciences and public health. PhD admission is department-driven, and each programme sets its own deadline, funding path and prerequisite requirements. Most STEM PhDs open only for the Fall intake and expect applications by 15 December 2026 for Fall 2027 entry.
Oregon State University PhD Eligibility
- Master’s degree or a strong bachelor’s (4-year, 3.0/4.0 GPA) in a directly relevant field — some engineering PhDs accept BTech applicants directly.
- Research fit statement naming 2-3 faculty supervisors whose work overlaps with your interests.
- Two to three academic letters of recommendation, preferably from thesis supervisors or research mentors.
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80 or programme-set higher floor.
- GRE is optional across most programmes but can strengthen borderline files.
Oregon State University PhD Funding
Most funded PhD offers include a Graduate Research Assistantship or Teaching Assistantship covering tuition remission plus a stipend. Stipend levels vary by department for the 2026-27 academic year; funded engineering and science offers typically also include health insurance. For a full funding table see the funding for Indian students summary on OSU’s Collegedunia page.
Oregon State University Application Process Step by Step
The application flow differs slightly between undergraduate and graduate levels — undergraduate first-year applicants have two portals to choose from, while graduate applicants go through a single centralised Graduate School portal.
- Choose your portal. First-year UG: Common Application (opened 1 August 2026 for the 2026-27 cycle) or the OSU direct application (opens 1 September 2026). Transfer, post-baccalaureate and international UG use OSU App only. Graduate applicants use the OSU Graduate School portal.
- Pay the application fee. $65 (₹6,212) for undergraduate on the OSU application portal, $85 (₹8,123) for graduate on the Graduate School portal. Paid by Visa, MasterCard or Discover — the fee is non-refundable.
- Upload your academics. Attach Class X, Class XII (and Bachelor’s for PG applicants) mark sheets and predicted final-year results as scanned copies for the initial review.
- Add English test scores. Send TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo scores directly from the test vendor to OSU’s institution code, or upload PDF score reports.
- Submit essays and references. UG: personal statement plus one recommender (Common App applicants may add more). PG: statement of purpose, résumé and 2-3 letters of recommendation.
- Financial documents. A bank statement or affidavit showing one year of tuition + living costs is uploaded at the point of admission decision to trigger the I-20 form for your F-1 visa.
- Await decision. UG Priority round decisions land by mid-March; graduate decisions are rolling but typically arrive 6-10 weeks after a complete file.
Insider note: If you apply through the Common Application, still monitor the OSU applicant portal (MyOregonState) after submission — supplementary financial and English documentation is uploaded there, not through Common App.
Oregon State University Documents Required
Documents are uploaded through your application portal at the time of application; certified originals or e-vault transcripts are requested only after admission and before enrolment. Keep scanned copies (PDF, 300 DPI) ready to avoid last-minute delays.
- Valid passport — biodata page, minimum six months of validity beyond intended arrival.
- Class X and Class XII mark sheets and certificates (UG); Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate (PG).
- Statement of Purpose (SOP) — a 500-800 word essay outlining academic goals and programme fit.
- Letters of Recommendation (LORs) — one for UG first-year; two to three for graduate programmes.
- Résumé or CV — one to two pages, mandatory for PG and MBA files.
- English test score report (TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo).
- Financial affidavit or bank statement — one full year of tuition plus living expenses, dated within six months.
- Passport-size photograph — recent, plain background.
- Certified English translation of any document originally issued in a regional Indian language.
Standardised test scores (SAT/ACT for UG, GRE/GMAT for PG) are optional at Oregon State University and only strengthen your file if the scores are strong.
Oregon State University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
Oregon State University publishes an overall undergraduate acceptance rate of approximately 79%, placing it in the "high-acceptance public research university" band alongside peer land-grant schools. The rate does not vary sharply by nationality — Indian applicants who clear the academic and English thresholds have historically converted at a similar or slightly higher rate.
What the Oregon State University Acceptance Rate Really Means
An 79% admit rate does not mean automatic admission. OSU still filters for the required 15 high-school subject areas, English proficiency and, for graduate applicants, prerequisite coursework. Indian applicants are typically declined on missing prerequisite subjects (for engineering and CS majors) or on English test scores below the required floor, not on GPA alone.
Programme-Level Selectivity at Oregon State University
Selectivity tightens sharply at the programme level. Full-time MBA, MS Robotics and MS Computer Science admit smaller cohorts and often reject applicants whose academic files clear the university floor but not the programme-specific bar. For competitive science and engineering PhDs, admission is faculty-driven and can dip well below 25%.
Insider note: OSU does not publish a separate India-specific admit rate. Indian applicants with a 3.3+ GPA, IELTS 7.0+ and a clean SOP have reported near-uniform admission to master’s programmes outside the top 2-3 CS/ECE tracks.
USA Student Visa Process for Oregon State University Students
Indian students admitted to Oregon State University enter the US on an F-1 student visa. The F-1 is issued against a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility) that OSU generates after your admission is confirmed and your financial documents are verified. Practical steps in sequence: pay the SEVIS I-901 fee (currently $350, around ₹33,449), complete the DS-160 online non-immigrant visa form, pay the $185 (₹17,681) MRV visa application fee, book biometrics at a US Visa Application Centre (VAC), then attend a visa interview at the US Consulate (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata or Hyderabad).
At the interview, carry your I-20, passport, DS-160 confirmation, SEVIS receipt, admission letter, financial documents (bank statements, education loan sanction, sponsor affidavit), and academic transcripts. On approval, US consulates typically issue F-1 visas within 5-10 working days for OSU-bound applicants. After landing in the US, register with OSU’s Office of International Services within 15 days of arrival — this is a hard OSU requirement, not just a federal one. See the USA study guide for Indian students for an end-to-end visa checklist.
2026 update: US student visa slots in India remain in high demand between April and August. Book your interview slot as soon as the I-20 lands in your inbox — waiting even a fortnight can push interview dates past your programme start date.
Tips and Application Checklist for Oregon State University
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Oregon State University over recent Fall cycles. They cover when to act and where files typically stall, not what documents to include — that list lives above.
- Book English tests by October 2026 for a Fall 2027 start — score-report delivery to OSU takes 10-15 working days.
- Request academic transcripts eight weeks before your target deadline — Indian universities routinely take 4-6 weeks to issue sealed transcripts.
- Draft your SOP against a specific OSU faculty or programme thread — generic "I want to study in the USA" essays under-perform in the OSU review.
- Apply to the Fall Priority round, not the space-available round — the 2 February 2027 Priority deadline is where scholarship decisions concentrate.
- Keep a financial sponsor letter ready — I-20 issuance stalls without a signed sponsor affidavit if the bank statement is not in the applicant’s name.
- Track your MyOregonState portal weekly after submission — additional document requests do not always trigger an email.
- File the I-20 request the same week your admission letter arrives — OSU processes I-20s in the order requests are received, not in the order admissions were granted.
- Book your F-1 interview slot in India the day the I-20 lands — waiting a fortnight risks pushing the interview past programme start.
Oregon State University suits Indian applicants who want a research-active public US university with a broadly open academic bar, a supportive international office, and clear priority-round scholarship pathways — provided you treat the 2 February 2027 Fall Priority deadline as the real target, not the June final round. Pair a clean SOP with an English test score comfortably above the 6.5 IELTS floor, and the admission decision usually follows within eight weeks.

- Faculty and professors are very experienced and will help us through the learning process and it’s very easy to score good marks.
- College city is calm and peaceful which is very safe and no need to worry about the stay.
Dislikes
- The fee is too high to pay for bachelors/masters.
- Library closes at 10pm almost everyday which is not sufficient for few students.
- Health center facilities are also closed by evening and no place to go for emergencies during late nights.
Scholarship
- Yeah, there are a few scholarships for people from abroad.
- One of them is academic scholarship where if you get 3.7 CGPA or above after your pathway you will receive $5000 scholarship per year. If we get 3.5 or above you will receive $3500 per year.
- Other one is International Student Scholarships where we have to apply manually and we will get $7500 per year if we get approved.

- My research interests were matching with what was happening here.
- Some of the best professors are there in my university and the research is top notch. The facilities are amazing. Especially the robotics lab has some of the most sophisticated equipments that you can work with.
Dislikes
- It is not very inclusive. Some graduate advisor and professors are racist. Sometime if you get stuck with a bad advisor, it can become very stressful and traumatic. Be very careful which professor you choose as your advisor as that is very important for you to successfully complete your degree on time.
Overview
It has been a rocky ride with loads of ups and downs. The newly recruited professors are sub par. The established professors are amazing.

- Everything, its funded for me, stipends are provided, weather is calm , peaceful, walk even at 3 am at night. greenest city. good professors. There are many fun courses to register like swimming, boxing, karate, yoga, etc. Free gym, free groceries, and cheap houses.
Dislikes
- Lots of research work, not industry oriented, finding professors is tough, you need to complete certain amount of courses per research area. finding an advisor takes time. 3 term a year so lots of study work with less of individual effort.
