Course Curriculum

  • Academically, the course is kinda mixed, not super easy but also not impossible… difficulty level depends on the subjects you pick
  • Some classes were more theoretical, like concept-heavy, but a few courses had good practical projects also, so overall it felt like a mix of both
  • The positive part of the course is that projects actually teach you real stuff, and you learn tools that are useful for jobs
  • The negative part is that sometimes the workload becomes too much, and a few professors just rush through slides without explaining properly
  • Usually, in a day you don’t have too many classes… mostly 1 or 2 classes, each around 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Timings are mostly afternoon or evening, especially for graduate courses, because many students do part-time jobs
  • The average number of students in one class is around 25–35, sometimes more, depending on the popular course
  • My batch profile is quite mixed, students from India, China, the US, the Middle East… but Indian students are the majority in many tech programs
  • In my course, around 60–70% were Indian students, so you find a lot of familiar people
  • Classroom learning is okay; some professors are very engaging, some just do basic teaching
  • Group projects help you interact with batchmates and understand different work styles
  • Overall, academics are manageable if you stay consistent, but last-minute studying becomes tough
  • Few courses give weekly quizzes and assignments, so you have to be regular
  • Sometimes TA support also helps, but not always available
  • Overall, I feel the course gave good learning, but could improve in teaching quality for some subjects

Fees

  • The fee structure honestly a little confusing at first, but overall, tuition was the main big amount
  • My full course tuition was around high amount per credit, so the total went somewhere near 32–35 credits, depending on classes
  • I didn’t take it because it's too costly, but on-campus housing is normally around 1200–1500 per month, which is quite high
  • There were some extra charges also, like student activity fee, health insurance, library fee, etc, which added a few hundred more every semester
  • Fees are mostly credit-based, as you pay for how many credits you register each semester
  • Some semesters become heavy if you take more subjects because the credit fee multiplies
  • Monthly expense in Chicago is not cheap… for me, around 1100–1400 USD monthly, totally
  • Rent alone comes like 700–900 (if shared room), single room even more
  • Transportation around 60–80 if you take the CTA pass, sometimes Uber, etc, makes it more
  • Grocery around 150–200, depending on how you eat. If you eat outside, then more expensive
  • Phone bill is like 25–35, internet sometimes included, sometimes not
  • Small things like laundry, coffee, random stuff also add like 30–50
  • Overall, managing expenses is a little tough at the start, but after some time, you understand the pattern
  • Tuition fee hits the hardest because every semester payment feels heavy
  • But compared with other colleges, IIT is still kinda manageable if you plan properly

  • A mix of both theoretical and practical curricula, but the practical assignments are really tough. Please avoid ChatGPT copied answers; you can definitely understand the concepts from there, but write each word by yourself. Even ChatGPT's answers are not correct most of the time.
  • Positive aspect is I learned a lot hands-on for building, training models in Courses like Deep learning, NLP, Machine learning, and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Negative aspect is the mental and physical health. It is quite exhausting to solve assignments and prepare for exams.
  • There would be mostly 1 and sometimes 2 classes in a day. Timings are between 8 AM to 8 PM CT.
  • There are 70-150 students in each class on average. Most students are in the popular courses and easy 4 pointers.
  • There are mostly 80-90% indian students in master's graduate courses.

Fees

  • Fees Breakdown-
    • Activity Fee- 100 USD
    • Student Service Fee- 300 USD
    • Tuition Fee- 15750 USD (1750 USD per credit * 9 credits (3 courses))
    • UPASS - 155 USD
  • Student health Insurance - 2286 USD = 18581 USD -6000 USD =12591 USD for the first 2 semesters
  • The Fees are paid semester-wise. 500-700 USD including rent, utilities, groceries and other expenses.

  • My course curriculum was easy and not much of a hurdle. It was a mix of both. Like there was a lab manual and theory lessons too. For me, a positive aspects was i was able to learn a few things that are required for my career goals and a negative aspect was that only limited subjects could be registered for in a semester. This makes it a hard decision which one to go out in.
  • During my time i used to have 3 classes in day and weekly, only 2 times I had to go to uni. Usual timings would be during the morning and afternoon and evening, 6-9pm. My branch has an average of 15-20 students. Most of them were indian only 2 were american.

Fees

  • Tuition fees were $33,294, Living expenses were $15,790, and health insurance is 1,973 so the total is $51,057. As I got a scholarship of $12,000 each semester, I had to pay less in fees. Cost estimation: if you are living in a shared room, then the minimum it will go for is $400, and utilities are like $110 per month and internet is $12 each and for transportation, if you take a travel pass from college for 3 months, it is $158 for unlimited travel and for groceries, it will go for above like $75, plus depending upon one's needs.

Nearby college, two options are very famous if you want to stay off campus. First is Prairie Shores and second is Lake Meadows. In the comparison of both most are the same but Prairie Shores requires a guarantor for the lease application and Lake Meadows does not require it, students can easily sign the lease. You can see the availability and rent of the house and other details on their website and do all processes online. In my point of view, these are the best options for international students if they want to stay off-campus.

It is a tough but very interesting course. The course content is extensive and in depth. Course subjects were helpful to understand and implement design theories and technological techniques to the design.

Fees

Since it is a private institution, the fees are considerably higher. Around 1500$ approximately per credit. The fee is paid every semester and also attached are university transportation pass fees, college academic services fees as model shop fees. Since I am an architecture student, we had to use a lot of softwares like AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, adobe photoshop, etc which are very expensive even for students. There is a small discount for students but it still is a lot. Also, architecture requires a lot of models to be constructed which require a lot of expensive materials.

I think that the course curriculum that was required for me to receive my mechanical engineering degrees was pretty much as expected. The various courses that I needed to take allowed me to see what all the different parts of mechanical engineering were.

Fees

The total cost for a year at IIT, which included tuition, housing, and other fees, was about $55,000 per year. There were other fees, such as parking, and lab fees that we had to pay as well, which were about $1,000 a year.

I am very happy with it. I think it focused very well on the core classes and allowed me the opportunity to engage in the real-life practice of robotics and building various projects. I knew there would be typical boring classes I had to get out of the way, so it was not a big deal
