Reason for choosing my college

  • The curriculum was good. The cost of living is really very affordable; like $600 per month includes everything and the tuition fees are also very affordable; they are around $900-1000 per credit so 30000 for 30 credits.

  • I guess the statement of purpose was not that strong and I have a lower CGPA in my undergrad, which might have affected the decision. My GRE score was 315 and toefl was 110/120. Student who got admission had average score of gre 322 this can also be the reason.

Tips to enhance your application

  • Share your academic achievements and work experience in the relavent field also include relevant projects. You don't need a GRE score so don't waste money on that also get a good LOR from the professor and your present working company.

Admission Experience

  • US education emphasises research and innovation, especially in the field of computer science; it is in the top 50 according to the US ranking additionally on campus opportunities in this college are good; you can cover your personal expenses very well.
  • Overall campus life and extracurricular activities are very good; they keep organising events.

Class Schedule

  • Usually there are 10 classes, with an average of 1 hour long; timings were usually in the morning and the afternoon strength was around 150. 90% were indians few classes, which are also in undergraduate; you might see some Americans and chinese in those classes. Approximately, you will end up spending 5 hours on homework and assignments.

Faculty

  • It's very easy to reach professors and they also have TAs to solve your doubts. Kelin luo for algorithms is the best; the course structure is really good. No, faculties won't help in a job hunt, but you should reach out to them and talk to them. You might get a grader or TA under that professor, which will pay you 1000-1200 per month.

Campus Life

  • 5 campuses, sports complex is really good it has olympic size swimming pool, and the recreation center has almost everything: wrestling, a gym, and badminton also they keep hosting events, so it's worth visiting. Oozefest is the most popular fest; it's more like Mudfest. The library is also really good. they also take frequent outdoor trips.

Part Time Jobs

  • Students do jobs like doordash and cash drops in restaurants, but i woudnt recommend doing that, as those are illegal and if caught, you might lose your visa. It's not worth doing. There are campus jobs; go for them you can easily earn like $1000 per month from them and if you get GA they pay like $2500-3000 per month.
  • Off-campus jobs are not allowed but some students do cash drop jobs but it is not recommended as it is illegal. On-campus jobs are easily available; pay is $15.50/hr. Around 25% of the class get TA/RA/GA jobs. Campus dining is the biggest recruiter; it also pays $15.5/hour. Apart from this, there are jobs in the library (student assistant), university police, and recreation centre.

Placement

  • Around 70 per cent of the students get jobs within six months of course completion. The average salary is around 70K per year. I would say one should try for amazon biggest recruiter. LinkedIn and indeed are really helpful in finding jobs. The highest is 120K and the lowest is 40K. The key is to apply early, like as soon as the job gets posted, and be in the top 50 applicants.

  • A Facebook page is the best way to find accommodation. There is one page called GISA where you will see house postings; usually students take houses near south campus (englewood st, heath st, merimac st) and there is a list of all the house owern number you can message them and ask about their property; you can get a decent house for $450/month.
