- One of the issue is extra or enough seats available for popular subjects.
Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- I chose Arizona State University because of several reasons: the program aligns with my long-term goals and the curriculum was perfectly crafted as per the modern-day industry needs. The main deciding factor was safety; for me, both on and off campus safety was quite important. In addition to it, the affordable prices as compared to other universities made Arizona State University a practical choice for me.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- I applied to some universities but I was not selected. The challenge that I faced was starting the whole application process late. And that gave me limited time to properly build my profile and alter all the necessary supporting documents. Additionally, the admission process for these colleges was highly competitive and the huge volume of applications and program capacity played a vital role in this process.

Tips to enhance your application
- The things to include in your admission documents are a good statement of purpose; make sure that it targets the program that you are aiming for. Make sure to write how your background aligns with the program that you are planning to pursue.
- Provide letters of recommendation from your university professors; construct them carefully, knowing what your program needs. The most important thing is to build a good resume, as it can do wonders for you.
Admission Experience
- My time at Arizona State University has been incredibly positive. The culture here is amazing; the people are welcoming and help you adjust to the surroundings. The reason why I chose the United States is because all the leading brands in the world of technology are currently present in the U.S. And it is home to almost all the new innovations happening in the world. In addition to it, my college has a good ranking for the program I was looking for.
- The Data Science program at ASU is incredible; they provide in-depth knowledge of the technicalities present. Furthermore, ASU caters to a lot of Indian students, from whom I knew that the location was great as well. The career opportunities are almost the same wherever you are in the U.S. My experience at ASU has been great. The professors are really helpful and there are many extracurricular activities such as clubs and events present on campus, and that makes it a fun place to study.
Class Schedule
- The number of classes in a week totally depends on you, as you are the one choosing the subjects that you opt for the semester. Usually the class timings are an hour and fifteen minutes. The average size of the class is about 60-70 students per class.
- In the Data Science course, there are a lot of Indians present; my guess would be around 50 to 60 percent. In a week you get 2-3 assignments and you have to submit them on weekends. Each assignment takes about half an hour to forty-five minutes to complete.
Faculty
- The faculty members for my course are excellent and well known. The faculty-to-student ratio is also quite good, which helps with more personalized attention towards every student.
- Among all the good teachers, the one I find very helpful is Prof. Samira Ghayekhloo. The reason is that her courses are very informative and directly help us learn the tools that are currently being used in the industry. You can get a teaching or a research assistant under any professor if that position is available.
Campus Life
- Arizona State University has multiple campuses; the Tempe campus is the main one. The facilities include two big libraries, namely Hayden and Noble. ASU also hosts big events like Homecoming and many sports events like the football and basketball games. All ASU students have free tickets to these games.
- My campus was the Tempe campus but I had some courses in the Polytechnic campus as well. Arizona State University provides free shuttle services to all of its campuses so it was hassle-free travel for me. Additionally, ASU conducts intramural matches for all kinds of sports, such as pickleball, basketball, badminton, etc. It is balanced with all the technical stuff as well, such as hackathons and many conferences as well.
Part Time Jobs
- Most of the Indians tend to work in the dining and hospitality roles. The average pay per hour for that is around $15-16/hr.
- The application process for the part-time jobs is easy, as you have to apply online on the ASU Workday portal. But it is very competitive to get a part-time job here. You also can apply with Aramark using their own portal.
- The part-time opportunities on campus are very competitive. A lot of students apply for on-campus jobs but only a handful of them get one. One can get a TA/RA role by either directly talking to the professor or by applying online on the ASU job portal. Some other kinds of on-campus jobs are in dining, hospitality and general office work. The pay for every job varies. But currently, the minimum pay is $15/hr for 20 hours per week.
Placement
- After completing the course, a good number of students get placed within the duration of 6 months. The average salary is expected to be $60,000-$80,000 per year for my course. But it also depends on the job role and the location.
- Students typically find jobs by directly applying to companies online or reaching out to recruiters and getting themselves an interview. The numbers for the highest and lowest salaries are pretty uncertain, but as per my information, the highest goes about $110,000, with the lowest being $50,000.
Accommodation
- There are many online websites present that help to find the perfect accommodation that you are looking for. Some challenges that I faced were finding the right roommates. This was a big challenge for me as I did not know anyone at ASU so I had to talk to a lot of people and then finalize my roommates.
