Baruch College Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Baruch College admission requirements for Indian students cover academic marks, English proficiency and credential verification for both undergraduate and graduate programmes.
Postgraduate Requirements
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); Zicklin’s Full-Time MBA Class of 2025 averaged CGPA 6.8/10 equivalent to a 3.4 GPA
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 100 (5 on the new 1-6 scale) or IELTS Academic 7.0 for MBA; MS programmes accept TOEFL iBT 80 (4 on new scale) and IELTS Academic 6.5
- Standardised tests: GMAT 622 average or GRE 156 Verbal and 157 Quantitative for MBA (recommended); Executive Assessment 149 average also accepted; waivers granted case-by-case for 5+ years work experience
- Credential verification: WES ICAP evaluation of Indian transcripts must reach Baruch 8 weeks before deadline
Undergraduate Requirements
- Academic: Class 12 with 75% to 85% (recommended); minimum GPA equivalent 3.3 on 4.0 scale
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS Academic 6.5, or SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 480 or higher for waiver
- Financial documents: Bank statement covering one year of tuition and living costs for the I-20 issuance
Key insight: Baruch does not publish a hard CGPA cutoff for MS admissions, but the competitive intake pushes accepted profiles to a CGPA 6.0/10 or 60% floor. Applicants below that band should strengthen the GRE, statement of purpose and work experience narrative.
Baruch College Acceptance Rate 2027
Baruch College’s overall acceptance rate is 47% (estimated), based on third-party admissions trackers. Baruch does not publish separate admission statistics for international applicants; the same rate is applied across the applicant pool.
Within the CUNY system, Baruch sits in the more selective bracket alongside Hunter and City College. Indian applicants with a CGPA above 6.5/10 and TOEFL 100 sit comfortably in the middle 50% band for Zicklin’s Full-Time MBA.
Reality check: A 47% rate looks welcoming, but Zicklin’s Full-Time MBA runs a smaller intake of about 100 seats each year. Yield on strong Indian profiles is competitive, so a Round 1 application meaningfully improves the odds.

Baruch College Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Baruch College runs a vertical campus in the Gramercy neighborhood of Manhattan, built around four buildings within a two-block cluster.
- Location and transit: The Newman Vertical Campus at 55 Lexington Avenue is served by the 6, N, R and W subway lines at 23rd Street, putting Wall Street within a 25-minute ride
- Housing: Baruch does not offer dormitories, and international students find shared apartments in Manhattan, Queens or Brooklyn at USD 900 to USD 2,000 per month
- Notable facilities: William and Anita Newman Library, Bloomberg trading floor at Subotnick Financial Services Center, Athletics and Recreation Complex
- Indian student community: Baruch’s Indian Cultural Exchange and South Asian Students Association host Diwali, Holi and Republic Day events each year
What Indian students say: The campus is compact and functional rather than sprawling, which suits students who prefer city life over stadium sports. Networking with Wall Street firms is easier than at suburban colleges, and part-time work options are widely available across Manhattan.

Key insight: Baruch’s ranking profile favours US employer recognition over global QS visibility. Indian applicants targeting Wall Street or Big Four accounting careers gain more from the US News Regional and Grad School positions than from a global research ranking.

Baruch College Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Baruch College placement outcomes are strongest at Zicklin, where the Full-Time MBA Class of 2025 employment report shows healthy salary bands for both domestic and international graduates.
- Full-Time MBA Class of 2025 all-reporting salary: Mean USD 105,917 (INR 101.4 lakh), median USD 115,200 (INR 110.28 lakh)
- Foreign-national graduate salary: Mean USD 64,000 (INR 61.27 lakh), median USD 62,500 (INR 59.83 lakh), low USD 56,000, high USD 75,000
- Top hiring functions: Finance and Accounting mean USD 127,000 (INR 121.58 lakh), Consulting mean USD 116,250 (INR 111.29 lakh), Marketing and Sales mean USD 63,333 (INR 60.62 lakh)
- F-1 post-study work: Standard OPT of 12 months for all graduates; 24-month STEM extension for MS Business Analytics, MS Statistics and other STEM-designated tracks
- Career support: Graduate Career Management Center at Zicklin; Starr Career Development Center for undergraduates; on-campus recruiting with Big Four and Wall Street firms
Insider note: Indian graduates with quantitative MS profiles tend to land finance and analytics roles at NYC-based banks and consultancies, but the H-1B lottery still gates permanent hire, so STEM OPT candidates should target E-Verify employers early.
Baruch College vs Peer Universities
Baruch College competes with NYC-based business schools on price, brand and career access. The peer set below spans public and private institutions in and around Manhattan.
| University | US News Rank 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD) | Avg Annual PG Fee (INR) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Baruch College (Zicklin) | #10 Regional North | 30,900 | 29.6 lakh | Lowest-cost public MBA in Manhattan |
| NYU Stern School of Business | #30 National | 87,000 (market estimate) | 83.28 lakh (market estimate) | Global MBA brand; Washington Square campus |
| Fordham University (Gabelli) | Verify at US News | 55,000 (market estimate) | 52.65 lakh (market estimate) | Jesuit private; Lincoln Center Manhattan |
| Pace University (Lubin) | Verify at US News | 48,000 (market estimate) | 45.95 lakh (market estimate) | Downtown Manhattan; smaller cohort |
| Rutgers Business School (Newark) | #59 National | 52,000 (market estimate) | 49.78 lakh (market estimate) | New Jersey public; 30 minutes from NYC |
Baruch stands out on price-to-outcome: a Zicklin MBA costs about a third of NYU Stern for the same Manhattan recruiting footprint. Marxe’s MPA is the strongest public affairs option among the peer set for Indian students targeting policy work.
Note: Peer fee cells labelled market estimate are indicative averages, not verified official rates; use each school’s official fee schedule for planning.
Baruch College works best for Indian students who want a Manhattan address at a public-college price, with the Zicklin brand backing accountancy, finance and analytics careers. Investment sits near INR 55.52 lakh for the full MBA against a Class of 2025 foreign-national salary near INR 61.27 lakh, and STEM-designated MS options unlock the 36-month OPT window to work in New York.
It is not the right fit for applicants set on a full research-university experience with dormitories, Big Ten athletics or an Ivy-branded MBA. Applicants prioritising residential campus life and a top-30 national MBA rank should instead consider NYU Stern or Fordham Gabelli.
Baruch College FAQs
Ques. What English tests does Baruch College accept for Indian applicants?
Ans. Baruch College accepts TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 80 for undergraduate applicants and 100 for Zicklin MBA candidates. IELTS Academic minimums are 6.5 for undergraduate and 7.0 for MBA. The Pearson Test of English is accepted for some programmes. Applicants with SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing scores of 480 or higher qualify for an English test waiver at the undergraduate level.
Ques. How does the WES credential evaluation timeline work at Baruch?
Ans. Baruch requires international transcripts to be evaluated by WES ICAP or an equivalent service. Indian applicants should submit their Class 12 marksheet, bachelor’s transcripts and any postgraduate documents at least eight weeks before the application deadline. WES processing typically takes three to four weeks after all documents are received, so factor this into the 1 December undergraduate or programme-specific graduate deadlines.
Ques. Is a GMAT waiver possible for Baruch MBA applicants with strong experience?
Ans. Zicklin grants GMAT and GRE waivers case-by-case for MBA applicants with at least five years of full-time post-bachelor work experience or a strong quantitative background from an accredited degree. The Executive Assessment is also accepted with a 149 average score. Applicants should request a waiver in writing to graduate admissions before submitting the application; the decision is confirmed within two weeks.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time on an F-1 visa at Baruch College?
Ans. F-1 students at Baruch may work up to 20 hours per week on campus during regular semesters and 40 hours during breaks, per US Citizenship and Immigration Services rules. Off-campus employment requires Curricular Practical Training or Optional Practical Training authorisation after completing one full academic year. On-campus roles include Zicklin graduate assistantships and library or administrative positions.
Ques. Does Baruch College offer interview rounds for MBA applicants?
Ans. Zicklin School of Business conducts interviews for full-time MBA candidates as part of its rolling admissions process. Interviews are by invitation only after initial application review and are typically conducted virtually for international applicants. The 30 to 45 minute conversation evaluates leadership potential, career goals and fit with Zicklin’s curriculum. Not all MS programmes require interviews; check the specific programme page.
Ques. Which loan providers recognise Baruch College for Indian education loans?
Ans. Baruch College is on the approved institution list for major Indian education loan providers including HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, InCred and Prodigy Finance. Public sector banks such as SBI and Bank of Baroda offer collateral-backed loans for CUNY colleges under their study-abroad schemes. Loan sanction typically requires the I-20 from Baruch plus a home-based co-applicant, with property collateral for larger tickets.
Ques. What is the application fee at Baruch College and are waivers offered?
Ans. The application fee at Baruch is USD 65 for undergraduate applicants and USD 125 for graduate applicants at Zicklin and Marxe. The fee is non-refundable and payable at submission. Baruch offers fee waivers for candidates demonstrating financial need through the CUNY Common Application. Zicklin extends occasional waivers to attendees of official recruitment events, veterans and select diversity-programme participants.
Ques. How does STEM designation help Baruch MS graduates with H-1B sponsorship?
Ans. STEM-designated Zicklin MS programmes including Business Analytics, Statistics and Quantitative Methods allow international graduates to work in the US for up to 36 months on Optional Practical Training. That extends the standard 12-month OPT by 24 months and gives Indian graduates three chances at the H-1B lottery. Employers hiring STEM-OPT holders must be E-Verify enrolled and meet Department of Homeland Security training-plan rules.
