SKBU Course Admission 2026: Dates, Fees, Eligibility, Application Process, Selection Criteria

SKBU PG Admission

Sidho Kanho Birsha University offers MA as its popular course in 13 different specializations. It also offers M.Sc., MBA, M.Com, etc. courses at the PG level. Admission is solely based on merit.

SKBU PG Eligibility Criteria

• MA (Anthropology & Tribal Studies): 3-year Honours Graduates in Anthropology, Botany, Nutrition, Physiology, Zoology, Geography, History, Social work or programme Graduates (GBCS) having any of the above-mentioned subjects as Discipline I are eligible to apply. Graduation in Anthropology (Honours / Major/ programme with Anthropology as Discipline 1) will get the preference.

Applicants from other Universities having Honours / Major in Anthropology, Botany, Nutrition, Physiology, Zoology, Geography, History & Social Work only are eligible to apply.

• M.A. in Economics: 3-year Honours Graduates in Economics, Mathematics & Statistics or Programme Graduates (CBCS) having any of the above-mentioned subjects as Discipline 1 are eligible to apply.
• M.A. in Journalism & Mass Communication: 3-year Honours Graduates / Programme Graduates (CBCS) in any discipline are eligible to apply.
• M.A. in Kudmali:

  (i) 3-year Honours Graduates in Kudmali or

  (ii) Graduates (CBCS) having Kudmali or

  (iii) Graduates in any stream with 1-year PG Diploma in Kudmali/ Kudmali Language/ Kudmali Language & Culture from any recognized University / reputed Institute are eligible to apply.

• M.A in Sociology: 3-year Honours Graduates in Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, History, Philosophy, Political Science or Programme Graduates (CBCS) having any of the above-mentioned subjects as Discipline 1 are eligible to apply. Graduates in Sociology (Honours/ Major/ Programme with Sociology as Discipline 1) will get the preference.

• M.A. in other Subjects: 3-year Honours/ Major in the concerned subject and/or Programme Graduates (CBCS) having the same subject as Discipline 1 are eligible to apply.

• M.Sc. in Biotechnology: Bachelor's Degree in Life Science (B.Sc.) 3-year Honours Graduates in Agriculture, Animal Science, Botany, Biotechnology, Bio-Chemistry, Genetics, Life Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Zoology and other allied subjects or Programme Graduates (CBCS) having any of the above-mentioned subjects as Discipline 1 are eligible to apply.

• Master of Business Administration (MBA): (i) 3-year Honours Graduates / Programme Graduates (CBCS) in any discipline or (ii) Bachelor Degree (under 10+2+4 system) in Engineering and Technology/ Medical Science/ Law/ Professional Courses or its equivalent from any recognised University or (iii) Bachelor Degree (under 10+2+3 system) in Business Administration (BBA) are eligible to apply.

• M.Sc. in Computer Science: 3-year graduates with (i) B.Sc. (Honours) in Computer Science or (ii) BCA or (iii) B.Sc. Honours in Mathematics/ Statistics/ Physics with Computer Science as one of the pass subjects or (iv) B.Sc. Programs with Computer Science and Mathematics/ Physics/ Statistics are eligible to apply.

• M.Sc. in Environmental Science: 3-year Honours Graduates in Environmental Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geography (Sc), Geology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Zoology, Nutrition, Physiology, Agriculture, B.Tech./B.E. in Civil/Mechanical or Programme Graduates (CBCS) having any of the above-mentioned subjects as Discipline 1 are eligible to apply.

SKBU PG Selection Process

• The candidates with a minimum of 60% marks will be eligible to apply for PG course of study in 1st Discipline only.
• For the Honours Candidate of (1+1+1) pattern, Percentage of Marks obtained in Honours subject will be considered.
• There will be no Entrance Test.
• 80% Category: Selection will be made strictly in order of merit by taking into the consideration of Aggregate Percentage of the Marks secured in Graduation only.
• 20% Category: Selection will be made in order of merit by taking into the consideration of Aggregate Percentage of the Marks secured in Graduation only.

In case of tie, following procedures will be considered to resolve it in sequential order:

• The marks (percentage of best four subjects) of HS (10+2) will be considered.
• If again tie occurs, then the aggregate percentage (%) of Madhyamik (10th level) marks will be considered.
• If still tied, the aggregate percentage of 1st and 2nd Language subjects obtained in HS (10+2) will be considered.

Documents Required

The following documents are required during the final admission process for SKBU PG courses -

• ID card: Issued by Govt. authority.
• Proof of Age: Admit or Certificate of Madhyamik or equivalent examination.
• Proof of Marks: All Undergraduate Mark-sheets/Grade Cards, Mark sheet of HS/or equivalent examination (10+2) and Mark sheet of Madhyamik/or equivalent examination of 10th level.
• Certificate of Reserved category (if applicable): SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B certificate issued by competent Govt. authority.
• Certificate of EWS (if applicable): Certificate issued by competent Govt. authority. EWS certificate is valid for the financial year of issuance of certificate.
• Person with Disability Certificate (if applicable): PWD certificate issued by competent Govt. authority.
• Meritorious Sports Persons: Certificates (only State-level position holder and National-level participant certificate issued by competent authority will be considered).

SKBU Ph.D Admission 

The University also offers Research programmes in various subjects. Application forms are released following an official notification from the University, and candidates are given a short period of time thereafter to apply if interested. The details of the admission to this course are as follows.

SKBU Ph.D Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have fulfilled the following conditions to be considered eligible for admission.

• A pass at the Master’s level in the relevant subject from a recognized university, with a 55% aggregate. A 5% relaxation may be given to those from SC / ST / OBC / Physically Challenged categories.
• Foreign candidates must produce clearance from the Government to be considered for admission.
• Those who have cleared NET / SET / GATE or the equivalent examination are exempted from the entrance examination.
• Selection Process
• The selection process to the Ph.D. programme consists of an entrance examination followed by a personal interview.

SKBU Ph.D Selection Criteria

• Those who have cleared NET / GATE / SET or the equivalent are granted exemption from the entrance examination and need only to appear for the viva voce interview process.
• Those who have cleared M.Phil. / M.Tech. / M.E. / M.D. / M.Pharm. or the equivalent, admission through which was given through an entrance examination, are exempted from the entrance test as well.
• The entrance test will be conducted on a date stipulated by the university, depending on the number of applicants and availability of seats.
• The examination will be subject-specific, with questions relevant to the matter studied in the Master’s degree.
• The viva voce will include questioning on the basis of research-oriented discussions, including the abstract that may have been required at the time of admission.
• A merit list is released thereafter on the basis of the performance in the entrance examination as well as the viva voce / interview. Performance at the Master’s level or other qualifying degree may be considered when selecting candidates.

Documents Required

Those who have been selected as per the merit list are required to appear for admission counselling, where all relevant documents are verified. This includes mark cards of all qualifying examinations and degrees, and a caste certificate if applying under the reserved category. The offer of admission will be given thereafter, and payment of the stipulated fee amount is required to confirm admission.
