Admission to the postgraduate course at Cotton University requires passing an entrance exam and having at least 50% in graduation. The university divides its available seats equally between its own graduates and those from other universities, with selection based on percentage and entrance exam scores, respectively. Although the faculty is efficient, with the physics department particularly noted for its supportive professors, there is a significant vacancy of about 150 professor positions.
The exam structure has been revised to improve student performance, requiring a minimum of 40% from mid and end-semester exams to pass. The fee structure is affordable, with the annual admission fee ranging from 4000 to 6000 INR, examination form fill-up fees around 1100 to 1300 INR, and workshop participation fees capped at 100 INR. Despite having a placement cell, the university does not offer substantial placement opportunities, nor does it directly provide internships.
However, it facilitates events like the Smart India Hackathon and helps students find internships elsewhere. Scholarships are available for OBC students, and some economically disadvantaged students receive a full waiver on the admission fee. Additionally, select scholars receive a stipend from the Research and Development fund, and a micro research scholarship of Rs 3000 is available to some students. The admission fee is approximately Rs 8000, with an examination fee of Rs 1150 for subjects without practicals and an additional Rs 450 for those with practicals.
No loan facilities are offered. Cotton University is recognized for its strong literary and cultural programs, and its alumni hold prestigious positions in Assam's civil service and ministry.
