CSJMU B.Sc FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics and B.Sc. Combination (PCM) at CSJMU? Which should I choose?
Ans. CSJMU offers both B.Sc. Honours programmes (in Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics separately) and B.Sc. Combination programmes (where you study three subjects together). The B.Sc. (Hons.) programmes have a fee of Rs. 34,400/year and offer a deeper, more specialised study of a single subject (30-40 seats each). The B.Sc. Combination (PCM) has a fee of Rs. 25,400/year and provides a broader foundation across all three subjects simultaneously (150 seats across all combinations). If you are clear about specialising in one subject for M.Sc. or research, the Honours programme is better. If you want flexibility and a broader science foundation, the PCM combination is ideal. Both are offered by the same School of Basic Sciences and have the same faculty.
Ques. How strong is the IIT JAM preparation support at CSJMU's School of Basic Sciences?
Ans. The School of Basic Sciences at CSJMU has a strong track record for IIT JAM preparation. In 2026-27, 30 students from the school qualified IIT JAM. The school organises problem-solving sessions conducted by Padma Shri Prof. H.C. Verma of IIT Kanpur specifically to prepare students for NGPE (National Graduate Physics Examination) and IIT JAM. Additionally, students have access to the Harish Chandra Research Centre of Excellence in Advanced Mathematics and Computing, workshops on MAPLE, MATLAB, LaTeX, and Python, and collaborative research opportunities at IITs and IISER Mohali. Many students have also qualified UGC-NET and GATE examinations, and several are pursuing PhDs at IITs.
Ques. What career options are available after completing B.Sc. (PCM) from CSJMU?
Ans. After completing B.Sc. (PCM) from CSJMU, graduates can pursue M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics (at CSJMU itself or at IITs/NITs/central universities through IIT JAM/CUET-PG), appear for competitive exams like GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, and IIT JAM, or enter careers in teaching (school/college level), research, pharmaceuticals, chemical industries, IT sector, banking, and government services. Alumni from the School of Basic Sciences have been placed at Patanjali Research Institute, Sun Pharma, Novozyme, Nestle, Mankind Pharmaceuticals, and Akums Pharmaceuticals, and several have secured faculty positions at BHU, NIT Jamshedpur, and other institutions. Students with strong academic records can also pursue PhD programmes at IITs and central universities.
Ques. Does CSJMU's B.Sc. PCM programme have any research or internship opportunities during the course?
Ans. Yes, the School of Basic Sciences actively facilitates research and internship opportunities for B.Sc. students. Students have pursued internships at IITs, DMSRDE (Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment, Kanpur), NIT, and various reputed industries. M.Sc. students pursue projects at Shiksha Sopan, IIT Kanpur, and B.Sc. students can also participate in research activities through the school's collaborations with IITs, IISER Mohali, MNIT Allahabad, and the Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre (FFDC), Kannauj. The school also organises workshops on Data Science, Machine Learning, Remote Sensing, and Vedic Mathematics, providing students with exposure to emerging fields.
Ques. Is the B.Sc. (PCM) from CSJMU accepted for IIT JAM and other national-level entrance exams for M.Sc. admissions?
Ans. Yes, the B.Sc. (PCM) degree from CSJMU is fully recognised and accepted for IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.) and other national-level entrance exams for M.Sc. admissions. CSJMU is a UGC-recognised, NAAC A++ graded university, and its B.Sc. degree meets the eligibility criteria for IIT JAM (which requires a Bachelor's degree with the relevant subject). Students from CSJMU's School of Basic Sciences have a strong track record of qualifying IIT JAM - 30 students qualified in 2026-27 alone. The degree is also accepted for CUET-PG, CSIR-NET, UGC-NET, and state-level M.Sc. entrance exams.
Ques. What is the total cost of studying B.Sc. (PCM) at CSJMU over 3 years, including hostel?
Ans. The total programme fee for B.Sc. (PCM) over 3 years is Rs. 76,200 (Rs. 25,400 per year), making it one of the most affordable science degrees in the region. If you opt for on-campus hostel accommodation, the annual hostel fee ranges from Rs. 20,620 (Ganga Girls EWS hostel) to Rs. 36,370 (Swarn Jayanti Boys hostel), which includes room rent, health insurance, and management fee. Mess/food charges are additional. Over 3 years, the total cost including hostel (boys, Shivaji hostel at Rs. 28,180/year) would be approximately Rs. 76,200 (course) + Rs. 84,540 (hostel for 3 years) = approximately Rs. 1,60,740, excluding mess charges and personal expenses. SC/ST and OBC students eligible for UP Post-Matric Scholarship can get significant fee reimbursement, and students in the top 1% of their 12th board can apply for the DST INSPIRE Scholarship of Rs. 80,000/year.
