SASTRA B.Tech CPS FAQs
Ques. What exactly is Cyber Physical Systems and why is it a good career choice?
Ans. Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) is the integration of computation, networking, and physical processes. It is the core technology behind autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, smart healthcare devices, smart grids, and robotics. As industries globally adopt Industry 4.0 and smart infrastructure, CPS engineers are in high demand. This is a niche but rapidly growing field with excellent career prospects in both India and abroad.
Ques. What is the total fee for B.Tech Cyber Physical Systems at SASTRA?
Ans. The total fee for the 4-year programme is approximately Rs. 7.53 Lakhs (excluding hostel and mess). This includes tuition fees starting at Rs. 85,000/semester in Year 1 with a 5% annual increase from Year 2, plus one-time charges of Rs. 10,000 (development fee) and Rs. 6,000 (special/registration/medical fees). Hostel charges are additional and range from Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 90,000 per year.
Ques. How does B.Tech Cyber Physical Systems differ from B.Tech ECE at SASTRA?
Ans. B.Tech ECE covers the full breadth of electronics and communication engineering, while B.Tech CPS (ECE with Cyber Physical Systems specialization) focuses specifically on the integration of embedded systems, real-time computing, sensor networks, and control systems with physical processes. CPS graduates are better suited for roles in autonomous systems, industrial IoT, and smart infrastructure, while ECE graduates have a broader base for telecom, VLSI, and signal processing roles.
Ques. What career roles are available after B.Tech Cyber Physical Systems from SASTRA?
Ans. Graduates can pursue roles such as Embedded Systems Engineer, Autonomous Systems Developer, Industrial IoT Engineer, Robotics Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, and CPS Security Specialist. Key employers include Bosch, Siemens, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Honeywell, automotive OEMs (Tata Motors, Mahindra), and defence/aerospace organizations like DRDO and ISRO.
Ques. Is hostel mandatory at SASTRA for this programme?
Ans. No, hostel is not mandatory. Students can opt for day-scholar status if they have local accommodation. For those who wish to stay on campus, hostel lodging fees range from Rs. 16,000/year (Non-AC, 3-in-1 room) to Rs. 90,000/year (AC, single room with bath attached). Mess charges are billed separately.
Ques. Can B.Tech Cyber Physical Systems graduates pursue higher studies like M.Tech or MS abroad?
Ans. Yes, absolutely. CPS is a highly research-oriented field, and many graduates pursue M.Tech (GATE-based) or MS/PhD programmes abroad in areas like autonomous systems, robotics, embedded systems, and industrial IoT. Top universities in the US, Germany, and Singapore have strong CPS research programmes. SASTRA's research infrastructure and faculty also support students interested in pursuing research careers.
