TMV Advanced Diploma in Japanese FAQs
Ques. What is the JLPT N3 level, and why is it important?
Ans. JLPT N3 is the intermediate level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, the internationally recognised standard for Japanese language ability. N3 is considered the minimum level required for most professional jobs in Japanese companies in India and abroad, and is also a prerequisite for many higher education programs in Japan. Completing the Advanced Diploma at TMV prepares students to appear for and clear the JLPT N3 examination.
Ques. Can I join the Advanced Diploma directly without completing the Diploma at TMV?
Ans. Yes, if you hold a JLPT N4 (old Level 3) certificate from any recognised examination body, you are eligible to join the Advanced Diploma directly without completing the Diploma course at TMV. This is useful for students who have learned Japanese elsewhere and want to continue their studies at TMV.
Ques. What is the difference between the Advanced Diploma and the Special Advanced Diploma in Japanese at TMV?
Ans. The Advanced Diploma (N3) is the third level in TMV's Japanese language ladder, focusing on advanced communication skills. The Special Advanced Diploma (N2) is the fourth and highest level, designed for students who intend to pursue careers in industry, covering Business Japanese, translation, and communication at a substantially advanced level. The Special Advanced Diploma fee is Rs. 23,000 per year.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing the Advanced Diploma in Japanese?
Ans. After completing the Advanced Diploma (N3 level), students can pursue careers as Japanese language translators, interpreters, language trainers, or in Japanese multinational companies (MNCs) operating in India. N3 is also a stepping stone for higher studies in Japan through MEXT or other scholarships. Many Japanese companies in Pune's automotive and IT sectors actively recruit N3-level candidates.
Ques. Is the NAT Test available at TMV, and how is it different from JLPT?
Ans. Yes, the NAT Test (Nihongo Achievement Test) is conducted at TMV itself, 6 times a year. It is equivalent to JLPT in terms of syllabus and levels, with results declared within 15 days (much faster than JLPT). It is accepted for higher education and employment visa purposes. This is a significant advantage for TMV students who want to certify their Japanese proficiency without waiting for the twice-yearly JLPT.
Ques. Can I progress to the BA Japanese degree program after completing the Advanced Diploma?
Ans. The Advanced Diploma is an open course (not a degree program), so it does not directly lead to the BA Japanese degree. However, students who wish to pursue the BA Japanese degree at TMV can apply separately, as the BA program has its own eligibility criteria (Class 12 passed). The Advanced Diploma does provide a strong language foundation that would be highly beneficial for BA Japanese students.
