NIT Srinagar will expose you to a variety of ideas. Over here, you will experience a different socio-cultural setup. This will open your mindset, and prepare you for a better professional life. Though it is not situated at some prime location, the college will offer you ample opportunities for growth and development.
The campus and surrounding areas are beautiful, and there’s a lot to explore. Placement-wise, CSE is the best course to opt for. CSE/IT has a good placement record.
Overall, NIT Srinagar is a one-of-a-kind experience that you can definitely consider for your higher studies.
How do NIT Srinagar students get placements?
As an alumnus of B.Tech CSE at NIT Srinagar, I will try providing information regarding the placement scenario of my branch.
A CSE student can be placed on campus and off campus. Around 15-20, visiting companies allow CSE students to sit for their placement drive. No CSE batch faces a shortage of placement opportunities, as per my limited knowledge. You can also opt for off-campus placements.
With good wifi facilities in hostels, you should opt for some relevant courses on edX, Coursera, or other such platforms. This will really help you grab good opportunities.
As an NIT student, you’ll get much more placement opportunities than most other engineering students. But struggle is everywhere. In order to grab good jobs, you’ll have to work on your skill set.
How is life at nit srinagar?
I have spent four years as a B.Tech student at NIT Srinagar. Here are a few things about life at my college-
- Srinagar is amazing. The weather remains cold for most part of the year, so you’ll forget what average Indian summers feel like.
- NIT campus is fully secured, and surrounded by Dal Lake.
- During winter, everything is covered in snow. It is an absolutely mesmerizing view.
- The hostels are clean and provided with all the facilities. 24*7 Wi-Fi facility is available. Mess is separate for each hostel, and the food is decent.
- Students depend mostly on self-studies.
- Students are sent by the college to other Indian cities (for example, Ghaziabad) for industrial training purposes.
- You will be provided with decent sports and gym facilities. There are college clubs which you can join. The IIED Center offers opportunities for self-exploration.
- The placements are good, especially for CSE/IT. ECE, Mechanical, and CIV also enjoy good placements. Non-CSE/IT students usually sit for GATE or other competitive exams and perform well in them.
NIT Srinagar is a wonderful college that offers a one-in-a-kind experience.
Is CSE at NIT Srinagar a good option?
If you are considering NIT Srinagar for CSE, here are a few things you should know-
- CSE students face no trouble because of attendance shortage.
- You’ll be eligible for a good number of companies visiting the campus during the placement season.
- The permanent teachers are good but less in number.
- Though the teachers are good, you’ll have to heavily depend on self-study.
- This department puts minimum academic pressure on students. The curriculum is also manageable.
Here are a few points about NIT Srinagar in general-
- Srinagar will allow you to enjoy the beauty of nature. You’ll lack access to malls and cinema halls, but the mesmerizing weather will be worth everything.The weather remains cold for 7 to 8 months of the year.
- You can go for a stroll or play sports on the banks of Dal Lake.
- There’s unfortunately, corruption in the college administrative and management units.
- The hostels have WiFi and ultra-high-speed broadband lines.
- The mess food isn’t great, and vegetarians/Jains have very limited food options, both inside and outside the campus.
- There are holidays due to frequent strikes, ‘bandhs’ and curfews.
- The number of girls on campus is quite low.
You won’t be offered a typical college experience at NIT Srinagar. But this place will teach you a lot. Academically, you’ll be on your own. But for a stress-free campus life, you can consider this college.

There is many opportunities of placements in college , many on campus companies come to hire students companies loke l &T , jsw ,psus come for hiring for civil engineering and many startups come to hire students which give chance to students to sit in interview.
How is the faculty at NIT Srinagar?
The teachers are quiet approachable. And helping in nature. The teacher to student ratio is unknown but from my experience it might be 1 :10. The exams are happening twice a semester the mid semester exams and the end semester exams.The difficulty level of exams is medium to hard. But sometimes exams are a bit easy too.
How is the campus life at NIT Srinagar?
We have a technical fest called techvaganza held annually and a cultural fest called range chinar which has happened twice in this college in the past 3 years and the technical fest has happened once in the past 3 years. The library is full of books with wide variety.The books issuing process is quite simple and eazy. The books are available in large quantity as well.the class rooms are equipped with smart class. And the sports infrastructure is well developed,where we have a 400meter running track and a football ground a badminton court a tennis court and a basketball court as well. The was a club called semicolon when we came to the college. Right now there is a club called techfusion which is quiet actively conducting events and classes. We also have a gymkhana.
How are the hostels at NIT Srinagar?
Hostels are spacious and have table for studying and light for each bed have lights for students to study at night , mess food is average and hostels are given during admission process only and hostels are affordable with around 18500 per semester.
