PEC Chandigarh Faculty: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 334 Reviews

The faculty at the college is highly qualified, with most possessing Ph.Ds and substantial industrial experience, particularly from IITs and other prestigious institutions. However, there is a noticeable variance in teaching effectiveness and enthusiasm across departments. Facilities like labs are available but not always up-to-date, and the student-to-faculty ratio is generally around 1:60, which is standard for government institutions.

The faculty is often involved in research, encouraging student participation. Despite the high qualifications, there is a mix of enthusiasm and expertise, with some faculty members not fully utilizing modern teaching tools. Overall, the faculty's knowledge is strong, but teaching methods and the level of student interaction vary significantly.

Student Snaps:

Faculty:

The faculty at R College is a mix of highly experienced professors and young faculty members the faculty to student ratio averages around 1 ratio 20 though it varies by department in most branches teachers are approachable outside class and many are willing to guide students with projects internships and research work professors with phd background especially in core branches like ece mechanical and civil bring deep academic knowledge while younger faculty often connect better with students due to their more interactive teaching style The student faculty relationship is generally positive though in larger classes personal mentorship can sometimes be limited the core structure at our college follows semester system with eight semesters for Btech programme the first message is common across all branches focusing on fundamental sciences mathematics and introductory engineering subjects from 2nd year onwards branches specific subjects dominates with elective and open elective in latest mistress practical lab workshops and projects work are included but many students feel that parts of our curriculum are outdated in fast evolving fields like ai data science and machine learning the exam system continues and balance between the midsem test and endsam examination and internal assessment such as assignments projects and quizzes the marking scheme usually gives 40% weightage to internal assessment 60% to end semester exams though that exact distribution may vary by subject exams are more likely difficult not excessively tough to pass but demanding consistent preparations to score high on average the failure rate is low as spec focus is more on learning than elimination overall the curriculum is moderately rigorous and academically solid providing a strong foundation in engineering but the space of slaves moderation needs improvement to align with industry demands while some professors inspire with clarity and mentorship others stick to outdated methods .

Faculty:

The student to faculty ratio is approximately 28:1. The faculties are helpful and easily approachable in branches like CSE/ECE, i don't know much about other branches. There are many renowned faculties who are PHD holders from prestigious institutions like IITs,NITs and foreign universities also.So the faculties are quite knowledgeable. There are mainly two exams Midsems and Endsems, quizzes, practicals and labs happen throughout the semester. The exams are not that difficult if you study atleast 1 week before midsems or endsems.I don't know the exact number of people that fail. Yes the course curriculum is almost relevant but there are some outdated subjects like engineering drawing which students don't like.

Some faculty members are nice and sweet while some are sadist like they will never teach but will deduct a lot of marks, while some are really knowledgeable. However, we can approach faculty at any time easily . Recently I had a doubt in chemistry exam so I called the chemistry teacher and she showed me the quiz which they usually never, so it was nice. Also there will be time to time quizzes , 2-3 quizzes per subject and mid sems ad end sems

PEC Chandigarh: 1 Answered Question

Is PEC Chandigarh really degrading year by year, and how is the faculty for CSE and its placement for CSE?

Rishikesh Kumar
Shikha GuptaStudied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh

A news article was published in 2018 which assured that there are a lot of chances that PEC shall be converted into IIT very soon.

Firstly, PEC is part of the University of Punjab. If it is converted into IIT, then it has to be turned into an autonomous institute first, which has not started yet. There is still not any confirmation regarding the conversion of PEC into IIT. It is a huge thing and these type of topics generally goes through a lot of controversies.

If you are taking admission in PEC thinking that you will get a degree from IIT, then you are completely wrong. You will get a degree with a tag of PEC.

It will be better if you stop thinking about the IIT factor. This institute itself a reputed one and provides amazing placements to every one of its students. So, you must be focused on your hard work, career and future career perspectives without thinking about PEC is transformed into IIT.
