Here’s what Yash Choudhary, a 2024 B.Tech Eclectronic Engineering graduate, has to say about the admission process at PEC Chandigarh. The college offers strong placements, good faculty support, and a vibrant campus life. While subjects like communication and environmental science are practical and engaging, the core curriculum feels outdated and exam frequency is stressful. Internship opportunities are excellent for CSE/ECE but limited for Electrical. Placements are impressive with top companies visiting and high packages. Fees are high compared to facilities, and scholarships benefit very few students. Hostel facilities are decent but need improvement. Campus life is lively with festivals, clubs, sports, and safe surroundings. Overall, it is a good NIT-level institute with scope for improvement. Read More

PEC Chandigarh Admission FAQs

Ques: What documents are required for admission at PEC Chandigarh?

Ans: Candidates need to submit all these documents at the time of admission at PEC Chandigarh: Class 10 mark sheet and certificate, Class 12 mark sheet and certificate, Bachelor’s degree mark sheets and certificate (for PG/PhD), JEE Main / GATE scorecard, Seat allotment letter, Government photo ID proof, Category/reservation certificate (if applicable)

Ques: Can candidates participate in CSAB if no seat is allotted in JoSAA?

Ans: Yes, candidates who are not allotted any seat through JoSAA rounds can participate in CSAB Special or Super Rounds to compete for vacant seats at PEC Chandigarh.

Ques: What is the counselling process of PEC Chandigarh?

Ans: PEC Chandigarh admissions are carried out through JoSAA/CSAB based on JEE Marks ranks. Candidates must register on the JoSAA portal, fill and lock their preferred choices, participate in multiple seat allotment rounds, choose, freeze, or float/slide options, pay the baby seat acceptance fee, complete online document verification, and finally report to PEC Chandigarh for physical verification and admission confirmation. M.Tech admissions are accepted through CCMT based on GATE scores. Applicants need to register on the CCMT portal, fill and lock choices, take part in allotment rounds, download the seat allotment letter, pay the acceptance fee, upload documents for online verification, select freeze/float/slide options, and report physically to PEC Chandigarh to complete admission formalities.

Ques: What is a better option for a CSE, NIT Hamirpur or PEC Chandigarh?

Ans: College preference varies from person to person, but in terms of placements, PEC Chandigarh clearly has an edge over NIT Hamirpur. Its location in Chandigarh ensures better connectivity, making campus recruitment more convenient for companies. While NIT Hamirpur offers better infrastructure, infrastructure alone should not be the deciding factor. Many institutes focus on buildings rather than academics, placements, and exposure. Another important aspect is the NITian tag, which still carries wider recognition compared to PEC among the general public. However, academically and placement-wise, PEC competes strongly with top NITs, making both choices valuable depending on individual priorities.

PEC Chandigarh Admissions: Students' Opinion

  • BTech

AI-Generated Summary based on 342 Reviews

Admissions to the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering at Punjab Engineering College University of Technology (PEC) are primarily based on the JEE Main exam results. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) counseling processes are used to allocate seats. PEC reserves approximately 50% of the seats for students from Chandigarh and surrounding Tricity areas (Panchkula, Mohali) with further reservations for SC/ST, Gen-EWS, Defence, Sports, and Freedom Fighter categories.

Candidates must secure a rank typically within the top 12,000 to 20,000 in JEE Mains to be eligible for the program, with a general cutoff percentile being above 99 for Computer Science. A minimum of 75% marks in the Class 12 board exams is often required. The admission process involves smooth online procedures followed by on-campus document verification and fee payment. Information regarding application forms, procedures, and timelines is available on the PEC official website.

PEC's location in Chandigarh, along with its strong placement record and extensive alumni network, makes it a favorable choice for many aspiring students, often over nearby NITs or other institutions. Sessions commence post-counseling, with regular assessments throughout the semester.

I chose this college over other colleges because of the placements. No matter how outdated their curriculum is but this college gives good placements. At my rank this was the best college which was giving an average of package of 12LPA from Production and Industrial Engg. I also wanted to live in a good city so I chose this college. If we talk about the admission process of this college, you have to first appear in JEE Mains. Then you have to apply in JOSAA Counselling. There are 6 rounds in JOSAA in which seat is alloted to the students who have got better ranks. Imo if you are a general category student then you have to score above 96 percentile to get in Production of PEC. If you dont get any seat in JOSAA then there is CSAB also. You might get seat in CSAB rounds

Admission:

I chose this college because of the fees and legacy of college, it is more than 100 years old and everyone in the industry knows about it, the fees is low compared to others. the campus is decent 150 acres which is comparatively better than other government colleges (though if u want better campus and can pay high, go for thapar). I applied to thapar, IIITs but at the end chose here. I was rejected from NIT delhi due to rank (college tag is more valuable of NIT). Admission process is only through josaa and csab, only online (after jee mains). And cse at pec is very popular, along with ece.
