Glasgow Caledonian University offers 10+ scholarships, of which 7+ are accessible to Indian applicants for the 2026-27 cycle. Awards span the £2,500 undergraduate tuition discount, the automatic £3,000 New to GCU India waiver, and the full-tuition Postgraduate Ambassador Scholarship. GCU Plus can layer another £1,000 for Indian applicants with strong academic or English scores.

  • Standard PG tuition (2026-27): £16,500 to £19,800 per year (INR 21.12 to 25.34 Lakhs).
  • PG tuition after New to GCU India waiver: £13,500 to £16,800 per year (INR 17.28 to 21.50 Lakhs).
  • PG tuition after India waiver plus GCU Plus stack: £12,500 to £15,800 per year (INR 16.00 to 20.22 Lakhs).
  • Next major deadline: Chevening 2027-28 closes 6 October 2026, 11:00 UTC (16:30 IST).

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 GBP = INR 128 as of August 2026. Institutional GCU awards are tuition-only discounts. They do not cover rent, food, or the UKVI maintenance requirement of £9,207 per year for Glasgow (£12,006 for London).

Glasgow Caledonian University Scholarships for UG Students

GCU runs three main scholarship routes for full-time international undergraduates entering in September 2026. The New to GCU Undergraduate award is automatic. The Anniversary Scholarship and Sports Scholarship require a separate short application.

ScholarshipAmount (2026-27)Who qualifiesApplication
New to GCU Undergraduate£2,500 per year (INR 3.20 Lakhs) tuition discountSelf-funded international UG students on a full-time courseAutomatic at admission; no separate form
GCU Anniversary ScholarshipCash bursary reviewed annuallyApplicants who have faced financial or personal challengesTentative 7 August 2026 (annual cycle)
GCU Sports ScholarshipUp to £3,000 (INR 3.84 Lakhs) plus coaching supportUG students competing at national or international level in an approved sportTentative 30 September 2026

The New to GCU Undergraduate discount repeats every year, so a 4-year BSc keeps £10,000 (INR 12.80 Lakhs) off total tuition. Anniversary Scholarships are needs-based and require a personal statement covering the challenges you have faced.

Reddit Insight: Indian UG applicants on r/UniUK note that the £2,500 New to GCU discount is applied on the CAS letter itself. The reduced tuition figure then feeds directly into UKVI financial evidence calculations, cutting the required bank balance.

Glasgow Caledonian University Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students

Postgraduate taught applicants at GCU can access four institutional routes for September 2026 and January 2027 entry. The New to GCU Postgraduate discount and its GCU Plus top-up sit at the top of the automatic stack. The Postgraduate Ambassador Scholarship is a competitive full-fee award for students willing to represent the university.

ScholarshipAmount (2026-27)Who qualifiesApplication
New to GCU Postgraduate£3,000 (INR 3.84 Lakhs) tuition discountSelf-funded international PG taught students, September 2026 or January 2027 startAutomatic; assessed at admission
GCU Plus (India, Nigeria, Pakistan)Extra £1,000, totalling £4,000 (INR 5.12 Lakhs)Strong academic transcript or GCU-approved English test scoreAutomatic; assessed alongside admission

GREAT Scholarship at GCU£10,000 (INR 12.80 Lakhs)Kenya and Malaysia nationals only for 2026-27 at GCU; not open to Indians this cycle1 May 2026 (closed)

Ambassador applicants must satisfy four hard criteria:

  • An unconditional offer for a full-time postgraduate taught course at Glasgow or the London campus.
  • Proof of living-cost funds meeting UKVI maintenance thresholds.
  • A completed short application form with a personal statement covering the Common Good mission.
  • Written commitment to ambassador duties for the full academic year.

Reddit Insight: Indian applicants on r/IndianStudentsUK flag that the £3,000 New to GCU discount is confirmed only on the offer letter. Ask the international office for a written waiver breakdown before paying the tuition deposit.

India-Specific Scholarships at Glasgow Caledonian University

Two GCU awards are ring-fenced for Indian nationals in 2026-27, both stackable in the same application. Together they cut up to £4,000 (INR 5.12 Lakhs) off a full-time master’s, applied at enrolment without a separate form.

ScholarshipAmount (2026-27)Indian applicant criteriaHow it applies
New to GCU India (PG Taught)£3,000 (INR 3.84 Lakhs) tuition discountSelf-funded Indian national on any full-time PG taught course, September 2026 or January 2027 intakeAutomatic at admission; deducted from CAS tuition
GCU Plus India (top-up)Extra £1,000, totalling £4,000 (INR 5.12 Lakhs)Strong Indian bachelor’s transcript or strong IELTS or PTE score on GCU’s approved English test listAutomatic; SOP quality reviewed alongside grades
New to GCU India (Undergraduate)£2,500 per year (INR 3.20 Lakhs)Self-funded Indian national on a full-time UG courseAutomatic; renews for each academic year of study

India-focused awards do not fund research programmes. PhD applicants should route funding requests through project-specific studentships and external Indian trusts covered in the sections below.

Glasgow Caledonian University PhD Scholarships

GCU funds doctoral study through three routes: university-funded studentships, grant-funded studentships tied to specific research groups, and government-funded scholarships from partner countries. Self-funded PhD is also available, with the international research tuition fee at £17,050 (INR 21.82 Lakhs) per year for 2026-27.

RouteValue (2026-27)Who qualifiesHow to apply
University Funded StudentshipFull tuition waiver plus stipend at the UKRI rate of £20,780 (INR 26.60 Lakhs) per yearUpper second-class honours or equivalent; Indian applicants eligible on meritAdvertised project-by-project; typical February to April 2026 window
Grant-Funded StudentshipsTuition plus stipend per grant terms (varies by funder)Match with a specific research group; international applicants eligibleRolling; check school pages for Heart Research UK or British Skin Foundation projects
Self-Funded PhDFull fee borne by candidate, £17,050 (INR 21.82 Lakhs) per yearStandard PhD entry requirements plus research proposalRolling year-round; no fixed deadline

GCU-funded studentships are competitive and often route through named research clusters such as Molecular Mechanisms of Long-Term Conditions or the Yunus Centre for Social Business. Indian PhD candidates without a matched studentship usually stack three sources:

  • Self-funded first-year fees paid from personal or family funds.
  • JN Tata Endowment loan-scholarship of up to INR 20 Lakhs for years 2 and 3.
  • Ad-hoc grant top-ups from research bodies once a supervisor has confirmed the project scope.

External Government Scholarships for Glasgow Caledonian University Applicants

Indian applicants can layer any of six major external awards on top of GCU’s institutional discounts. All six accept an unconditional GCU offer as their host-university proof.

GREAT Scholarships (other UK hosts)£10,000 (INR 12.80 Lakhs) per host universityIndian PG applicants; each host uni sets its own subject listVaries per host; tentative February to May 2027

The GREAT Scholarship for India is hosted by 12+ UK universities other than GCU for 2026-27. An Indian applicant holding a GCU offer cannot claim GREAT at GCU this cycle. Chevening remains the highest-return route: a Chevening award on a £19,800 MBA cuts total private outlay to zero after the living stipend lands.

All six external routes share three defining traits:

  • They require an unconditional GCU offer before the final scholarship award is confirmed.
  • They stack with the automatic New to GCU India discount at enrolment.
  • They involve a separate application on the funder’s portal, not automatic university assessment.

Glasgow Caledonian University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum scholarship funding an Indian student can stack at Glasgow Caledonian University?

Ans. The highest institutional stack for Indian postgraduate taught applicants combines the £3,000 New to GCU India award with the £1,000 GCU Plus top-up. Together they yield £4,000 (INR 5.12 Lakhs) per year as an automatic tuition discount. Layering an external Chevening or Commonwealth Master’s award on top pushes total support past £30,000 (INR 38.40 Lakhs) once stipend and airfare are counted.

Ques. When should Indian applicants start the Glasgow Caledonian University scholarship process?

Ans. Begin the GCU application at least 6 months before your intake so the New to GCU and GCU Plus awards get auto-assessed at admission. External awards move on fixed cycles: Chevening for 2027-28 closes 6 October 2026, and Commonwealth applications close around 14 October 2026. The Postgraduate Ambassador Scholarship opens after you hold an unconditional GCU offer, with a tentative 31 May annual deadline.

Ques. What academic or English score does an Indian applicant need for the GCU Plus £1,000 top-up?

Ans. GCU Plus is not tied to a fixed cut-off. It favours applicants whose bachelor’s percentage meets or exceeds the entry requirement for their chosen master’s, typically 55% to 65%. A strong IELTS band of 6.5+ or equivalent PTE 62 also qualifies you for the extra £1,000, based on GCU’s approved English test list.

Ques. How does the Postgraduate Ambassador Scholarship work at Glasgow Caledonian University?

Ans. The Postgraduate Ambassador Scholarship covers full tuition for a master’s at Glasgow or the London campus. The award is worth up to £19,800 (INR 25.34 Lakhs) for a one-year course. Recipients must hold an unconditional offer, deliver three vlogs, and host at least one social-media takeover. They also commit one hour per week to Unibuddy as a student ambassador. Applications open once your offer is unconditional and typically close by 31 May 2026 for a September 2026 start.

Ques. Do Glasgow Caledonian University scholarships cover Glasgow or London living costs?

Ans. No. Every GCU institutional award, from the £2,500 UG discount to the Ambassador Scholarship, is a tuition-only discount. It does not touch rent, groceries, or transport. Indian students still need to prove UKVI maintenance of £9,207 per year for Glasgow or £12,006 for the London campus at the visa stage.

Ques. Which external scholarship gives Indian applicants the highest chance of full funding at Glasgow Caledonian University?

Ans. The Chevening Scholarship is the single largest full-funding route for Indian applicants aiming at a GCU master’s. It covers tuition, a monthly stipend of £1,917 (INR 2.45 Lakhs), return airfare, and a thesis grant for one-year taught programmes. Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships offer similar coverage but are needs-based. JN Tata and Inlaks act as top-ups for candidates who miss the Chevening shortlist.

  • My university was offering a 2000 pounds scholarship for new international students. There are also other scholarships for different countries. I only received a 2000 pounds scholarship.
  • My fees were 14500 pounds but I paid 12500 pounds after deduction of scholarships. Mostly Glasgow Caledonian University is offering scholarships to new students; it attracts students more.

  • First accommodation i found with the help of an agent known as University Living had a monthly rent of 1500 pounds and we 4 members were living there and utilities bills were not included.
  • Major challenges that i had faced were rent; in Glasgow City Centre there was very high rent, other then that difficulties were finding the right flatmate. If anybody wants to move to the United Kingdom, you can use spareroom.com, airbnb to find accommodation. My accommodation was not far from the University it was 1.3 miles away.
