Glasgow Caledonian University admissions run through direct online applications for postgraduates and UCAS for undergraduates, with three intakes each year (September, January, May) and rolling review for most postgraduate courses. Indian applicants typically need a Class XII average of at least 65% for standard UG entry, a three-year Bachelor’s with 60% or a UK 2:2 for most MSc courses, and IELTS 6.0 with no band under 5.5 as the institutional English floor.
- September 2027 primary intake: most PG courses accept applications now on a rolling basis, with a recommended cut-off of 30 June 2027 to allow deposit, CAS, and visa timelines.
- Base tuition and fees: PG tuition ranges from £9,500 to £19,800 (₹ 12.28 Lakhs to ₹ 25.60 Lakhs) per year. UG applies via UCAS with a fee of £28.50 (₹ 3,685) for up to five choices; PG direct applications carry no application fee.
- Basic eligibility: UG entry needs Class XII with 65 to 75% depending on course, PG entry needs a Bachelor’s with a 55 to 60% floor, and both routes need IELTS 6.0 (5.5 per band) at minimum.
- Acceptance rate: around 70%, reflecting an access-oriented admissions policy that admits most applicants who meet published requirements.
Popular routes for Indian students include the MBA Global, MSc International Business Management, MSc Big Data Technologies, MSc Risk Management, and BSc Nursing Studies (Adult). Applicant sentiment on Glasgow Caledonian University highlights employability-focused teaching, a supportive Glasgow-and-London campus split, and a graduate employment rate of 91%, which many Indian students name as their reason for choosing GCU over larger research-heavy peers.

Glasgow Caledonian University Application Deadlines for Indian Students
GCU runs three intakes each year (September, January, May) with rolling review across postgraduate courses. September is the primary intake because most postgraduate and all undergraduate courses open here. January is a strong secondary intake for business, computing, and risk courses. May is limited to a small subset, mostly nursing-linked and pre-sessional English routes. Undergraduate applicants must apply via UCAS for the 2027 cycle, while postgraduate applicants apply direct through the GCU Online Application Portal.
The deadlines below are drawn from the GCU international application deadlines page and the UCAS 2027 cycle calendar. GCU recommends submitting three to four months before the intake to allow time for the £6,000 (₹ 7.76 Lakhs) international deposit, CAS issue, and UK visa processing.
Primary intake caption: Glasgow Caledonian University’s primary intake for Indian students is September 2027. Most programmes open here, and the January intake carries a narrower course list.
| Intake | Level | App Opens | Deadline | App Fee | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January 2027 | PG | Rolling (open) | 15 November 2026 (recommended) | No fee | GCU Online Application Portal |
| January 2027 | UG | Rolling | 15 November 2026 (recommended for visa) | £28.50 (₹ 3,685) | UCAS |
| May 2027 (limited) | PG | Rolling (open) | 15 March 2027 (recommended) | No fee | GCU Online Application Portal |
| September 2027 Primary intake | PG | Rolling (open) | 30 June 2027 (recommended) | No fee | GCU Online Application Portal |
| September 2027 Primary intake | UG | 1 September 2026 (opened) | 13 January 2027 (UCAS equal consideration) | £28.50 (₹ 3,685) | UCAS |
Planning note: GCU processes applications on a rolling basis, so course closures happen when a cohort fills, not on a fixed date. Submit early for the September 2027 primary intake, ideally by mid-March 2027, if you want dorm allocation, scholarship consideration, and unhurried visa processing.
Glasgow Caledonian University Eligibility for Indian Students
Entry requirements at GCU are set at course level, but the institution publishes clear floors that Indian applicants can plan against. The floors below cover Class XII, Bachelor’s, and English proficiency, in Indian terms first with UK equivalents in brackets. GCU does not run a general aptitude test for admission, so your Class XII or Bachelor’s marksheet and English test score are the two decisive documents at the eligibility stage.
Standard academic floors for Indian applicants (per the GCU India page):
- UG general entry: Class XII with an average of 65 to 75% from CBSE, ICSE, or a recognised State Board, depending on the course.
- UG competitive entry (Nursing, competitive engineering): Class XII with an average of 75%+ with Mathematics and a science subject studied through Class XII.
- PG standard entry: a three or four-year Bachelor’s with 55 to 60% in the final result (equivalent to a UK 2:2 honours degree).
- PG competitive entry (some business and computing MScs): a Bachelor’s with 60%+ in a related subject.
English proficiency floors are set on the official GCU English language requirements page and hold for both Glasgow and London campuses. GCU accepts the tests below; some courses (notably Nursing) publish higher floors than the institutional minimum.
| Test | Institutional Minimum | Per-Band Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic / UKVI | Overall 6.0 | 5.5 in each band |
| TOEFL iBT / Home Edition | Overall 78 | L 17, R 18, S 20, W 17 |
| PTE Academic / UKVI / Online | Overall 59 | 59 in each sub-score |
| Cambridge English (B2, C1, C2) | Overall 169 | Confirm per course |
MOI and country-based waivers. GCU stopped accepting Medium of Instruction (MOI) letters from the September 2024 intake onwards, so an English-medium school record alone does not exempt Indian applicants from a formal test. UKVI’s list of majority English-speaking countries used for the country-of-prior-study exemption does not include India. Indian applicants therefore need a valid IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Cambridge score, taken within the two years before their intake date.
Insider note: Nursing Studies (Adult) is the only major undergraduate course where the English floor is higher than the institutional default. It needs IELTS 7.0 overall with 7.0 in listening, reading, and speaking, and 6.5 in writing. Plan a retake window if your first attempt falls short in any single band.
Glasgow Caledonian University Postgraduate Programs
GCU’s postgraduate portfolio for Indian students is anchored in business, computing, engineering management, health, and risk. Base tuition for taught PG courses ranges from £9,500 to £19,800 (₹ 12.28 Lakhs to ₹ 25.60 Lakhs) per year, with the Global MBA at the top of the range. This section lists the institutional entry floors; for the full course-wise fees breakdown, see the GCU course-wise fees breakdown.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| MSc International Business Management | 12 months | Bachelor’s with 55 to 60% (UK 2:2) in any subject | IELTS 6.0 |
| MSc Big Data Technologies | 12 months | Bachelor’s with 60%+ in Computer Science or a related computing subject | IELTS 6.0 |
| MSc Cyber Security | 12 months | Bachelor’s with 60%+ in Computing or ICT with a substantial computing component | IELTS 6.0 |
| MSc Risk Management | 12 to 16 months | Bachelor’s with 55 to 60% (UK 2:2) in a relevant subject or with relevant work experience under RPL | IELTS 6.0 |
| MSc Data Analytics for Business | 12 months | Bachelor’s with 55 to 60% in a numerate or business-linked subject | IELTS 6.0 |
| MSc International Fashion Marketing | 12 months | Bachelor’s with 55 to 60% in any subject | IELTS 6.0 |
| MSc International Human Resource Management | 12 months | Bachelor’s with 55 to 60% in any subject | IELTS 6.0 |
| MSc Public Health | 12 months | Bachelor’s with 55 to 60% in a health, life sciences, or social sciences subject | IELTS 6.0 |
Most of the taught MSc programmes above accept a three-year Indian Bachelor’s degree with 55 to 60% as equivalent to a UK 2:2 honours, and English is met at the institutional IELTS 6.0 minimum with 5.5 in each band. The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route lets applicants without a directly relevant undergraduate degree substitute recognised professional experience or industry qualifications, particularly for Risk Management and Project Management.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official GCU international applications page for your chosen program before applying.
Glasgow Caledonian University Undergraduate Programs for Indian Students
Undergraduate entry at GCU runs through UCAS for both Glasgow and London campuses. Base tuition sits between £14,500 and £17,950 (₹ 18.75 Lakhs to ₹ 23.21 Lakhs) per year. Indian applicants apply with Class XII marksheets and, where required, a Class X marksheet for age and prerequisite evidence. UCAS points equivalents for CBSE and ICSE are calculated by GCU’s admissions team; a CBSE aggregate of around 75% typically maps to 112 UCAS points.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (Adult) | 48 months | Class XII with 75%+ including a science subject, plus values-based interview | IELTS 7.0 (6.5 in writing, 7.0 elsewhere) |
| BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering | 48 months | Class XII with 70%+ including Mathematics and a Science subject studied through Class XII | IELTS 6.0 |
| BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering Pathway | 48 months | Class XII with 70%+ including Mathematics and a Science subject | IELTS 6.0 |
| BA (Hons) International Business Management | 36 to 48 months | Class XII with 65%+ average from a recognised board | IELTS 6.0 |
| BSc (Hons) Computing | 36 to 48 months | Class XII with 65%+ including Mathematics | IELTS 6.0 |
Class XII grades convert into UCAS Tariff points at application review, so Indian applicants do not need to convert marks themselves. GCU accepts a range of Class XII boards including CBSE, ICSE, IB, and major State Boards. Direct entry into Year 2 or Year 3 is possible for applicants with a completed Indian three-year diploma or partial Bachelor’s, subject to a subject-match check.
Planning note: Add your UCAS reference and personal statement early. For 2027 entry, UCAS registration opened on 12 May 2026 and submissions opened on 1 September 2026, so any UG course still lists your slot as open right now.
Glasgow Caledonian University MBA Admissions
The Global MBA is GCU’s flagship business masters, delivered from the Glasgow campus (12 months full-time) and the London campus (12 months full-time, with part-time and distance options in London). It sits in the university’s Glasgow School for Business and Society and carries a fee of around £20,400 (₹ 26.38 Lakhs) at Glasgow and roughly £19,800 (₹ 25.60 Lakhs) at London, before the £6,000 (₹ 7.76 Lakhs) international deposit is applied against tuition.
GCU MBA Global Entry Requirements
Applicants need a UK honours degree or equivalent Indian Bachelor’s with 55%+, plus a minimum of three years of full-time professional work experience for the standard route. GMAT and GRE scores are not mandatory but strengthen an application from a candidate with a borderline academic profile. English proficiency is set at IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each band, which is one band higher than the institutional PG minimum. Indian applicants without a Bachelor’s degree may apply via the Recognition of Prior Learning route by evidencing at least five years of relevant management experience with employer letters and a supporting statement.
Glasgow Caledonian University MBA Rounds and Interview
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis rather than in fixed rounds. GCU issues conditional offers within two to four weeks of a complete submission. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to a Microsoft Teams interview with the programme lead, focused on career goals and quantitative reasoning. Once your application is complete, the decision timeline is typically 15 to 25 working days.
Global Executive MBA program details and part-time route options are available for London applicants who want to stack study around work.
Glasgow Caledonian University PhD Research Admissions
GCU offers PhD supervision across its three research themes: Inclusive Societies, Sustainable Environments, and Healthy Lives. Indian applicants apply through the online research application portal and are matched to a supervisor before an offer is made. Standard duration is three to four years full-time or six to seven years part-time.
GCU PhD Entry Requirements
The standard academic floor is a Master’s degree with a merit or distinction (typically 60%+ in an Indian PG) aligned to a GCU research theme. Applicants without a Master’s may be considered on the basis of a strong Bachelor’s plus a substantial research output such as journal publications or industry research experience. English proficiency is set at IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band, with higher floors for health-related research. Every applicant submits a research proposal of 1,500 to 2,500 words naming the intended supervisor.
Glasgow Caledonian University PhD Funding and Studentships
GCU advertises studentship-funded projects each cycle that cover tuition fees and pay a stipend at the UKRI rate, which is £20,780 for 2026-27 (₹ 26.87 Lakhs). Self-funded applicants pay international tuition of around £16,000 to £18,500 (₹ 20.69 Lakhs to ₹ 23.92 Lakhs) per year depending on the school. Refer to the funding-for-Indian-students detail on the GCU London campus page for London-specific research awards.
Insider note: Contact a potential supervisor two to three months before you formally apply. A brief email with your CV, research proposal draft, and questions about their current projects goes further than a cold application in a competitive research theme.
Glasgow Caledonian University Application Process
The application route depends on your study level. Undergraduate applicants use UCAS for all Glasgow and London-campus courses. Postgraduate taught applicants apply direct through the GCU Online Application Portal. PhD applicants use the research application portal. Each route is a small number of clear steps once your documents are ready.
- Choose your route. UG applicants register on UCAS (2027 cycle opened 1 September 2026 with a 13 January 2027 equal-consideration deadline). PG applicants create an account on the GCU Online Application Portal. Add up to five course choices on UCAS or one course per PG application.
- Pay the application fee. UG applicants pay the UCAS fee of £28.50 (₹ 3,685) for up to five choices, collected by UCAS at submission. There is no application fee for postgraduate direct applications on the GCU portal.
- Upload documents. Class XII, Class X, degree transcripts, degree certificate, English test score report, passport bio page, statement of purpose (400 to 700 words for PG), and one to two references. UCAS UG applications include the UCAS personal statement.
- Track your application status. UCAS decisions are logged in UCAS Hub. GCU issues PG offers within two to four weeks of a complete application; conditional offers are common while you complete your final marksheet or English test.
- Accept the offer and pay the deposit. Accept via UCAS Hub for UG, via email for PG. Pay the £6,000 (₹ 7.76 Lakhs) international deposit to trigger CAS issue. This deposit is applied against your first-year tuition.
- Receive CAS and apply for the Student visa. Once GCU issues your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), you can apply for the UK Student visa online. Register on arrival at the international office to complete enrolment.
Offer, deferral, and acceptance timeline. PG offer letters typically arrive within 15 to 30 days of a complete submission. Conditional offers convert to unconditional once you supply your final marksheet or top-up English score. GCU allows a one-cycle deferral to the next intake without a new application in most cases, subject to the receiving intake still having capacity.
Glasgow Caledonian University Documents Required for Indian Students
The document checklist below is the standard PG and UG requirement. This section covers paperwork only; academic thresholds are set out in the Eligibility section. Scan every document in colour PDF, keep file sizes under 5 MB each, and match names exactly to your passport spelling to avoid CAS delays later.
- Passport bio page: valid for at least six months beyond your intended course end date.
- Class X marksheet and pass certificate: for age verification and prerequisite subjects.
- Class XII marksheet and pass certificate: required for all UG entries and most PG entries.
- Bachelor’s transcripts and provisional or final degree certificate: mandatory for all PG applications.
- English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Cambridge; taken within the last two years.
- Statement of purpose (SOP): 400 to 700 words for PG, tailored to the specific course and career goal.
- Letters of recommendation: one academic reference for PG; two references (one academic, one professional) if you have work experience.
- CV or resume: single-page CV covering education, work experience, projects, and awards. Mandatory for MBA Global and Executive MBA.
- Work experience letters: required for MBA Global (three years) and Executive MBA (five years). Signed on company letterhead with role dates.
- Portfolio: for MSc International Fashion Marketing and creative-industries courses only.
- Financial declaration: a signed statement showing funds equivalent to tuition plus £12,006 (₹ 15.53 Lakhs) living costs for a 9-month course in the UK, needed for the CAS and visa stages.
Before you apply: Order two certified attested transcript sets from your university before you graduate. Registrars often take 8 to 12 weeks to release attested copies once you leave campus, which can push a July offer into an October or January deferral.
Glasgow Caledonian University Acceptance Rate
Glasgow Caledonian University does not publish an official institution-wide acceptance rate. Third-party estimates from admissions consultancies place it at around 70%, which reflects an access-oriented admissions policy where applicants who meet the published academic and English floors are usually offered a place.
Glasgow Caledonian University Acceptance Rate for Indian Applicants
Indian applicant offer rates track the institutional figure closely. Business, computing, and risk MScs sit near 70 to 80% because the Bachelor’s floor is a UK 2:2 in any subject, which most Indian applicants meet. Nursing Studies (Adult) has a much lower effective offer rate because it needs IELTS 7.0 and a values-based interview; industry estimates put it near 25 to 35%.
How Glasgow Caledonian University Compares on Selectivity
GCU’s 70% figure is broadly in line with other UK modern universities like Northumbria, Ulster, and Coventry, all of which sit in the 60 to 75% band. Older research-intensive Scottish peers such as the University of Glasgow’s comparable programmes are more selective at around 30 to 40% overall. GCU’s ranking band of THE 801-1000 and QS 1001-1200 places it as an employability-focused modern university rather than a research-first institution, which shapes its access-heavy admissions policy.
Reality check: A 70% acceptance rate is not the same as guaranteed admission. Late applications, incomplete documents, and low English scores are the three most common reasons Indian applicants get declined, not academic merit. Submit early and complete.
UK Student Visa Process for Glasgow Caledonian University Applicants
Indian students studying at Glasgow Caledonian University (Glasgow or London campus) apply for the UK Student visa (formerly Tier 4). The visa is granted by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) based on GCU’s issued CAS and can be applied for up to six months before a course starts. The visa fee is £524 (₹ 67,753) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is £776 (₹ 1.00 Lakh) per year of the course.
Financial proof is a core visa requirement. Applicants must show funds covering one year of tuition plus £12,006 (₹ 15.53 Lakhs) in living costs for Glasgow or £13,347 (₹ 17.26 Lakhs) for London, held in an approved account for a continuous 28-day period ending within 31 days of the application. The application is filed online at gov.uk with a biometric appointment at a VFS Global centre in India. Decisions typically arrive within three weeks under the standard route or five working days under the Priority service.
2026 update: The Graduate Route remains open. Indian graduates of GCU can stay in the UK for two years (three for PhD graduates) to work in any role after completing their course. This is a key reason Indian applicants pick a UK degree over other destinations right now, so factor it into your finance planning.
Tips and Application Checklist for Glasgow Caledonian University
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian applicant patterns at GCU across the last three intake cycles. They mix admissions insight with a timeline-anchored action list, and are written for a candidate targeting the September 2027 intake.
- Choose your intake with the course in mind. Global MBA, MSc IBM, and MSc Big Data run in both September and January, but nursing, engineering pathways, and MSc Public Health only open in September. Confirm your course intake before you register on the portal.
- Book IELTS 10 to 14 weeks out from your target deadline. That gives you time for one retake if any single band falls below 5.5 or below the 6.0 institutional average.
- Request your Bachelor’s transcripts 8 weeks before you plan to submit. Indian universities frequently take 6 to 10 weeks to release attested copies for overseas study.
- Write a course-specific SOP. Reuse the same 400-word core across applications only if the courses are truly similar; MBA and MSc IBM SOPs should read differently in tone and career goal.
- Pay the £6,000 deposit within two weeks of your unconditional offer. The deposit unlocks CAS issue and locks your seat; delaying past four weeks often triggers a scholarship or accommodation withdrawal.
- File your UK Student visa within three weeks of getting your CAS. Visa processing under the standard route runs three weeks in September, but jumps to four to six weeks between mid-July and mid-August.
- Apply for the New to GCU Postgraduate Scholarship at the offer stage. It is automatic for eligible self-funded PG applicants and reduces tuition by around £3,000 (₹ 3.88 Lakhs), so you do not want to miss the enrolment window.
The two to three weeks between your CAS issue and visa filing are the busiest period in an Indian applicant’s calendar. Treat this window as a hard sprint: financial documents, visa forms, IHS payment, and biometric appointment all run in parallel, and delays compound each other quickly.
Glasgow Caledonian University combines an access-oriented admissions policy with a graduate employability rate of 91%, three annual intakes, a nil postgraduate application fee, and a £6,000 international deposit that later applies against tuition. For most Indian applicants aiming at September 2027, submitting the PG application by mid-March 2027 and the UG UCAS application by 13 January 2027 leaves enough runway for scholarships, deposit, and Student visa without last-minute pressure.
Glasgow Caledonian University Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the primary intake at Glasgow Caledonian University for Indian students?
Ans. September is the primary intake. Most postgraduate and all undergraduate courses open in September, with the January intake running a narrower course list (mostly business, computing, and risk MScs) and May limited to nursing-linked and pre-sessional English routes.
Ques. Is there an application fee for Glasgow Caledonian University?
Ans. Postgraduate direct applications via the GCU Online Application Portal have no application fee. Undergraduate applications go through UCAS, which charges £28.50 (₹ 3,685) for up to five course choices in the 2027 cycle.
Ques. What IELTS score does GCU require for Indian applicants?
Ans. The institutional minimum is IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each band. MBA Global needs IELTS 6.5, and BSc Nursing Studies (Adult) needs IELTS 7.0 overall with 7.0 in listening, reading, and speaking and 6.5 in writing. TOEFL iBT 78, PTE Academic 59, and Cambridge English 169 are accepted at parity with IELTS 6.0.
Ques. Does Glasgow Caledonian University accept an MOI waiver for Indian students?
Ans. No. GCU discontinued the Medium of Instruction (MOI) waiver from the September 2024 intake onwards. India is also not on UKVI’s majority English-speaking country list, so Indian applicants cannot claim the country-of-prior-study exemption either. A formal IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Cambridge score is mandatory.
Ques. What is the acceptance rate at GCU?
Ans. Glasgow Caledonian University does not publish an official acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place it at around 70%, based on the access-oriented admissions policy that admits most applicants meeting the published academic and English floors. Nursing has a lower effective rate because of its higher IELTS and interview requirements.
Ques. Is a three-year Indian Bachelor’s degree accepted for GCU postgraduate entry?
Ans. Yes. A three-year Bachelor’s with 55 to 60% is treated as equivalent to a UK 2:2 honours degree for most GCU taught MSc courses. Some competitive MScs and the MBA Global look for 60%+ or a related subject background. RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) can substitute a Bachelor’s in some cases if you have strong industry experience.
Ques. How much is the international deposit at Glasgow Caledonian University?
Ans. The international deposit is £6,000 (₹ 7.76 Lakhs). It is payable after you accept an unconditional offer and is deducted from your first-year tuition fee, so it is not a separate cost. CAS issue is triggered once the deposit is received.
Ques. When do UCAS applications open for GCU undergraduate courses in September 2027?
Ans. UCAS 2027 entry registration opened on 12 May 2026 and application submissions opened on 1 September 2026. The equal-consideration deadline is 13 January 2027. Applications received after that date are still forwarded until 30 June 2027, but universities consider them only if places remain in the chosen course.
Ques. Can I apply to GCU directly without a consultant?
Ans. Yes. Postgraduate applications go direct through the GCU Online Application Portal at no cost. Undergraduate applications go through UCAS with a £28.50 fee. A consultant is not required and does not change your admissions outcome, though many Indian applicants use one for document preparation and visa filing support.
Ques. What documents does GCU need for a postgraduate application?
Ans. Passport bio page, Class X and Class XII marksheets, Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate, English test score report, statement of purpose (400 to 700 words), one to two references, CV, and any course-specific extras like a work experience letter for MBA Global. A financial declaration is required at the CAS and visa stages, not the initial application stage.
Ques. How long does GCU take to release an admissions decision?
Ans. Postgraduate offer letters typically arrive within 15 to 30 working days of a complete submission. Conditional offers are common at the initial stage; they convert to unconditional once your final marksheet or top-up English score arrives. Undergraduate UCAS decisions from GCU usually arrive within four to six weeks of your UCAS submission.
Ques. Can I defer my GCU offer to the next intake?
Ans. Yes, GCU allows a one-cycle deferral to the next intake in most cases without a new application, subject to the receiving intake still having capacity for that specific course. You must request the deferral in writing before your original enrolment date, and any paid deposit rolls over to the new intake.
