Cardiff University admissions run via UCAS for undergraduates and a rolling direct portal for postgraduates. September is the primary intake. Indian UG applicants need 78 to 81 percent in the best four Class XII subjects. PG entry needs a Bachelor’s at 55 to 60 percent with IELTS 6.5.

  • Next deadline: 15 October 2026 for Medicine and Dentistry UCAS entries, September 2027 primary intake.
  • Tuition £24,700 to £34,700 (₹31.57 to ₹44.35 Lakhs) yearly, with no application fee for postgraduate.
  • Class XII 78 to 81 percent for UG, Bachelor’s 55 to 60 percent for PG, minimum IELTS 6.5.
  • Institutional acceptance rate estimated at around 44 percent, international entry closer to 20 percent.

Indian applicants gravitate toward Cardiff’s Data Science, Finance, Business, and MBA offerings, and reviews consistently rate the Cardiff University experience for Russell Group teaching and Cardiff’s affordable living costs versus London.

Admission Status: Open. Cardiff’s September 2027 primary intake is accepting Medicine and Dentistry UCAS applications with a 15 October 2026 deadline. Standard undergraduate courses close by 14 January 2027, and postgraduate direct applications carry no application fee on a rolling schedule.

Cardiff University Application Deadlines

Cardiff runs one major September intake plus a smaller January cycle for select postgraduate courses. Undergraduate applicants apply through UCAS on fixed dates. Postgraduate applicants apply directly to Cardiff on a rolling basis until the course fills, with an early-round funding cutoff for scholarships.

Cardiff’s primary intake for Indian students is September. Most programs open here, per the Cardiff University key dates page.

Planning note: Cardiff’s postgraduate portal treats each application on a first-come basis. Once a program fills, it closes without warning, so late June to August 2027 offers to Indian applicants for a September 2027 start are rare.

Cardiff University Eligibility for Indian Students

Cardiff sets Indian-specific academic bars on its dedicated India entry page rather than treating Class XII as an A-level equivalent. English proficiency is checked separately, and Indian applicants have a defined route to skip IELTS if their Class XII English score meets Cardiff’s threshold.

Cardiff University Undergraduate Entry Requirements

A typical Cardiff undergraduate offer for Indian applicants sits between 78 and 81 percent in the best four Class XII subjects, excluding Hindi and Physical Education. Course-level bars vary by program.

  • UG general entry: 78 percent across best four Class XII subjects
  • Selective UG programs (Law, Business): 80 to 81 percent
  • Medicine and Dentistry: 81 percent plus UCAT and interview
  • Engineering: 78 percent with Mathematics as a Class XII subject

What Bachelor’s Grade Does Cardiff University Accept for PG?

Cardiff postgraduate taught programs need a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian institution at 55 to 60 percent, roughly equivalent to a UK 2:2 (lower second class) or 2:1 (upper second class) respectively. Competitive programs like Data Science and Finance treat the 2:1 line as the working floor.

Cardiff University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Cardiff accepts an Indian Class XII English score of 70 percent or above in place of IELTS for most undergraduate and postgraduate programs. This is a genuine medium of instruction (MOI) style exemption open to Indian applicants and applies to CBSE, ISC, and most state board results. Vocational Law programs (excluding the GDL) and clinical Dentistry programs require an English test regardless of Class XII English marks, so waiver users should confirm on their course page.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Cardiff University India entry page for your chosen program before applying.

Cardiff University Postgraduate Programs

Cardiff offers over 200 postgraduate taught programs across Business, Engineering, Health, Journalism, and Law. Base tuition sits between £24,700 and £34,700 (₹31.57 to ₹44.35 Lakhs) per year, with Business School and Data Science programs at the upper end. For the course-wise fees breakdown, see the Cardiff University tuition by course page.

Cardiff University Undergraduate Programs

Cardiff undergraduate degrees run three to four years, with clinical programs longer. Base tuition sits between £24,700 and £30,700 (₹31.57 to ₹39.24 Lakhs) per year for Indian applicants. Standard offers translate A-level bands into Class XII percentages using Cardiff’s India entry page.

Cardiff University MBA Admissions

The Cardiff MBA at Cardiff Business School is a one-year full-time program with an autumn start. It is aimed at mid-career professionals and screens applicants on academic record, work experience, and an interview. See the Cardiff MBA course page for the current fee and cohort mix.

Cardiff University MBA Entry Requirements

Cardiff MBA needs a 2:1 honours degree or equivalent international qualification, translated to about 60 percent in an Indian Bachelor’s. Applicants must show three years of relevant work experience backed by an employer reference. GMAT and GRE are not required, though strong scores strengthen borderline applications. English is IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in all subskills, waivable if the applicant holds a UK degree.

How Does Cardiff University Shortlist MBA Applicants?

Every candidate who meets the entry bar is invited to an interview, either in person or online, before an offer is made. The interview probes work-experience depth, program motivation, and aptitude for group work. The Cardiff MBA has no fixed application rounds and processes candidates on a rolling basis until the cohort fills, so submitting by February 2027 for a September 2027 start gives Indian applicants the widest scholarship consideration.

Insider note: The Cardiff MBA gives weight to India-specific leadership stories, especially candidates from Tier-1 IT, banking, and manufacturing. Bring measurable impact numbers to the interview, not job titles.

Cardiff University PhD Admissions

Cardiff hosts research PhDs across its three colleges, with two entry routes for Indian applicants: advertised funded projects tied to a specific supervisor, and self-proposed topics submitted with a research proposal. Applications run on a rolling basis, though funding rounds have fixed cut-offs.

Cardiff University PhD Application Process

PhD applicants should browse the Cardiff studentships list first, contact a potential supervisor with a two-page research proposal, and then submit the formal application through the Cardiff online portal. Self-funded candidates apply the same way but attach evidence of funding. A Bachelor’s plus Master’s at 2:1 level (60 percent Indian equivalent) is the typical academic bar, and IELTS 6.5 with 5.5 in each subskill is the English floor.

How Does Cardiff University Fund PhD Students?

Cardiff PhD funding is largely tied to UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) studentships and doctoral training partnerships. For international awardees, Cardiff currently absorbs the international-home fee gap so Indian scholarship holders are fully funded. The 2025-26 UKRI minimum stipend was £20,780 (₹26.56 Lakhs) per year, updated annually. Self-funded PhD applicants can apply for the Cardiff Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarship.

Insider note: Contact a supervisor before submitting the formal PhD application. A supervisor’s willingness to back your proposal is the biggest predictor of an offer, ahead of degree grade or publications.

Cardiff University Application Process

Cardiff uses two application tracks: UCAS for all undergraduate applicants and Cardiff’s own online portal for taught and research postgraduates. Both are single-stage systems, meaning one submission covers all supporting documents.

Cardiff University Postgraduate Application Steps

  1. Pick a program on the Cardiff postgraduate course finder and check the specific entry requirements.
  2. Register on the Cardiff online application portal and start a new application.
  3. Upload transcripts, degree certificate, IELTS or MOI evidence, personal statement, references, and CV.
  4. Submit the application. Cardiff charges no application fee for postgraduate direct applications, so no payment step is required.
  5. Track the application via the portal dashboard and respond to any conditional-offer clarifications.

How Do UCAS Applications Work for Cardiff University?

  1. Register a UCAS Hub account and complete personal details, education, and reference.
  2. Add Cardiff to your five course choices and pay the UCAS fee of £29.50 (₹3,771) directly to UCAS.
  3. Submit before the 15 October 2026 deadline (Medicine, Dentistry) or 14 January 2027 (all other courses).
  4. Attend a Cardiff online or campus interview if the program requires one.

Cardiff University Admission Decisions Timeline

Cardiff typically returns a postgraduate decision within 4 to 8 weeks of a complete application. Undergraduate UCAS decisions follow the standard UCAS calendar, with most offers by early May 2027. Conditional offers require applicants to meet named academic and English conditions before 31 August 2027 and to reply via UCAS or the Cardiff portal. Deferral to the next intake is granted case by case, usually on medical or visa grounds.

Cardiff University Documents Required

Cardiff runs a paperwork-light admissions process, but every uploaded document must be legible and in English. Indian applicants should have certified translations for any Hindi or regional-language transcripts.

  • Valid passport with 6 months’ validity beyond course end date
  • Class XII marksheet and certificate, attested
  • Bachelor’s degree transcripts and provisional or final degree certificate (for PG)
  • IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE score report, or MOI evidence if using the waiver
  • Statement of Purpose specific to the Cardiff program
  • Two academic references, or one academic and one professional for MBA
  • Updated CV or resume
  • Financial proof for one year of tuition plus living costs
  • Work experience letters for MBA applicants
  • Passport-size photographs meeting UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) specifications
  • ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance for select PhD and Master’s science courses

Cardiff University Acceptance Rate

Cardiff does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place undergraduate entry at around 44 percent, based on Russell Group admit-to-applicant ratios for competitive-intake research universities. International postgraduate entry sits closer to 20 percent for the most oversubscribed Business School and Data Science programs.

Cardiff University Acceptance Rate for Indian Applicants

Indian applicants who meet Cardiff’s 78 to 81 percent Class XII bar for UG or a 2:1 Bachelor’s plus IELTS 6.5 for PG have a strong practical shot at an offer. The gating factor is timing, not selectivity: applying after March closes access to scholarship rounds and often the program itself for autumn intake. Cardiff sits comfortably inside the QS Top 200 ranking band, which supports the international selectivity estimate.

Cardiff University Program-Specific Selectivity

Clinical programs run much tighter than the institutional average. Cardiff’s MScD Orthodontics admits around 4.5 percent of applicants, and MClinDent Prosthodontics around 6 percent. Standard MSc and MBA cohorts sit near the 20 to 30 percent international admit range once Indian applicants clear the academic and English bar.

Insider note: Cardiff admissions tutors weigh the Statement of Purpose heavily on borderline files. A specific paragraph on why Cardiff (naming the module or research group) shifts more decisions than a strong SOP without it.

UK Student Visa for Cardiff University Applicants

Indian students admitted to Cardiff apply for a UK Student Visa under the Student Route, using Cardiff’s Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). Cardiff issues the CAS after the applicant accepts the offer, pays the tuition deposit, and clears any conditions on the offer. The visa fee is £558 (₹71,318) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is £776 (₹99,180) per year of study, both paid directly to the UK Home Office.

Applicants must show maintenance funds held in the account for exactly 28 consecutive days: £1,438 (₹1.84 Lakhs) per month for study in London and £1,136 (₹1.45 Lakhs) per month for study in Cardiff, capped at nine months. Approved education loan letters from SBI, HDFC Credila, ICICI, Axis, and Bank of Baroda substitute for bank balances. A TB test at an IOM-approved clinic in India is mandatory before the visa appointment, and biometric enrolment at a VFS Global centre closes the application.

2026 update: Cardiff-bound applicants pursuing PhD or Master’s in science, engineering, or technology should trigger the ATAS clearance request as soon as the CAS is issued. ATAS turnaround is 20 to 30 business days and blocks visa filing.

  • Medicine and Dentistry applicants must clear the 15 October 2026 UCAS deadline.
  • PhD applicants: browse advertised projects on the Cardiff research portal before writing a proposal.

Cardiff University Admissions Checklist

The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete on the run-up to a Cardiff intake, sequenced by weeks before course start.

  • 12 months before intake: Confirm program requirements on Cardiff course pages.
  • 10 months before: Take IELTS or check MOI waiver eligibility using Class XII English marks.
  • 8 months before: Request academic transcripts and degree certificates from your university.

Scholarship

  • Yes, there was one scholarship, but they only waived £2000-£5000; for me, it was £2000. I think the name of the scholarship is Vice Chancellor's International Scholarship, and this depends on which course you choose. I received financial aid throughout the year cause I have a disability and I did not work part-time due to this issue.
  • So whenever I asked for help, the university did help me. It was really mind-blowing how they were able to manage to give a few hundred pounds whenever I felt the need. As I said before, everyone receives this scholarship, but be sure to check out, some courses might not be eligible for the scholarship. But this is an automated process, so if there is a scholarship, the fund will be waived from your tuition fee automatically; no need to apply for it separately.

Scholarship

  • There were various scholarships, including ones provided by University, the UK government and the Indian government.
  • I received the university's Chancellor's scholarship of £5000. This was presented because of my academic background.
  • There were few students from India that were sponsored by the indian government.
  • There were also scholarships from UK government, but I didn't have the chance to meet someone with one

Scholarship

  • Yes, I had received a scholarship; it was the International bursary that was given, GBP 2000 off from the tuition fees. But there are a multitude of other scholarships, like the Cardiff India Scholarship and externally funded options, like the Chevening Scholarship and Commonwealth Scholarships. On an average, almost 70-80% students receive scholarships from Cardiff every year

  • Some of the scholarships are INLAKS (up to 100%), VC Scholarship (about £2k to 3k), and Commonwealth (if you take this, you need to come back after the course). you will not be allowed to work in the UK. During my time, due to COVID, INLAKS was discontinued. It's back on now. I got the VC one. There were about 4 people with scholarships that I know of. Batch had 30 students.
