Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • I chose Cardiff university over other universities primarily because it is a member of the prestigious Russell group known for a strong research focus and academic excellence, which adds significant value to my degree.
  • Additionally, Cardiff offered me a £5000 scholarship, which not only recognized my academic potential but also made pursuing my studies possible. They're more financially feasible. These factors together made it the ideal choice for my higher education.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

  • I was not accepted at the university of Liverpool because the application window for Indian students had already closed and all seats were filled by the time I applied. Unfortunately, I missed the opportunity due to timing rather than eligibility or academic performance.

Tips to enhance your application

  • My advice for an application would be to include everything that you think would make a good point for you in any competitions. You’re on any letter of recommendation that you’ve gotten; of course, you will add your mark sheets and certifications. Going the extra mile and adding other noticeable certifications or courses or letters of recommendation that you’ve gotten would improve your chances of getting noticed. And SOP is the most important part of your application.
  • Write the SOP from your heart. why you want to pursue an education at that institution? Do your research about the institution. Why are they famous? Why is the course valuable to you? add some personal story for them to connect to you so that it is personal to you but also shows them how much you value their course in their university and why they should recruit you.

Admission Experience

  • I chose Cardiff University for a combination of academic excellence, global recognition and enriching student experience. The UK in general is renowned for its high-quality education, cultural diversity and strong academic framework, making it a preferred destination for international students. Cardiff University, being a part of the prestigious Russell group stood out for its strong Academic reputation and research-led teaching.
  • I was particularly impressed by the structure and relevance of my course, which is aligned with current industry needs and future career prospects. Additionally, the University offered me a £5000 scholarship, reaffirming their commitment to supporting In international talent, the city of Cardiff itself played a big role in my decision. It’s a vibrant, student-friendly city with a perfect balance of cultural richness, affordability, modernity and melodies. Its compact nature makes it easy to get around while still offering everything from beautiful green scapes to lively entertainment. The card also offers excellent career opportunities through it, strong industries, links, career services and employability programmes.
  • I’ve had access to career fairs, networking events, and internship guidance, which has helped me build valuable connections for the future. My overall experience at Cardiff has been incredibly fulfilling; the academic staff are supportive and knowledgeable, the campus is modern and well-equipped, and the student community is diverse and welcoming. I also had a chance to participate in various extracurricular activities and club societies, which add greatly to my personal growth and made my university journey more memorable.

Class Schedule

8

  • There were around 3 to 4 classes in a week. The timings varied from morning to evening. Most classes will start at 9 AM. Some of them were in the afternoon around 3 PM, and then some would be around 5 PM.
  • In my course, 80% of the class was composed of Indians; the class strength was around 237 students. Apart from regular classes, I would daily spend around 3 to 5 hours, depending on any due assignments or reading material given to us by the professors, on studies.

Faculty

8

  • So the classes were held on a lecture module, so there was one professor giving a lecture to the class of 200+ students. The faculty does help you and give you references to get any part-time and full-time opportunity that may present itself to you. They are really helpful and you can send in your doubts about any assignments to them via email. They reply to them as well.
  • Other than the faculty members who are teaching you, you are also assigned a personal tutor, which is essentially a staff member who can go over any other issues or any issues that you are facing while the academic session is in progress. personally for me, my personal tutor helped me a lot.

Campus Life

10

  • The University has a number of campuses for different courses. There are a lot of facilities available on campus like libraries, sports court, medical Centre shops for shopping groceries. A salon, quiet spaces to study, cafes, clubs, etc. there are a lot of clubs and societies present on campus for example, Art club, dance club, feminist society etc. You can even start your own society or club for any issue that you feel strongly about.

Part Time Jobs

  • Most Indian students prefer to work in hospitality or retail. The average you get paid a day is the minimum wage that the city offers. In my case it was £10 per hour. Getting a part-time job is not difficult, but it does take time and a lot of searching. You can apply for these jobs on indeed or hand out resumes to restaurants or retail stores that are looking for a candidate.
  • In my experience, because I had done hospitality management as my bachelor's degree, it was easier to get a hospitality job and I switched jobs quite frequently from being a bartender to a receptionist at a five-star hotel and a food chain to a high-end fine-dining restaurant receptionist, where I got paid £13 per hour, compared to the first two jobs, which paid only £10 per hour.
  • Teacher's assistant roles, not a lot of students. You will get it only if you’re doing a PhD; Professor High will hire you as a TA. Other on-campus jobs have an early wage that is similar to the early wage that is assigned by the city.
  • You can find these opportunities on indeed or on the campus portal. You’re allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours while you’re studying. if you’re an international student and on vacation or after your course is finished, you’re allowed to work 40+ hours in a week.

Placement

6

  • With the current situation of the economy, getting a job is harder, but if you have relevant previous experience in your field, it might be easier for you to get a job. The average salary ranges from £24,000 to £24,000-£30,000. The students who typically find jobs are the ones who keep up their grades. Have good communication skills and have some previous experience.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • Off campus. Student accommodations are really good. You can find them through online platforms or agents. If you’re choosing to stay in Cardiff, eclipse is a good option where I stay. They have a lot of facilities. The bedrooms are on suite and the kitchen has a lot of space. They also have a movie room, study rooms, a gym, and party rooms in their facilities, which adds on to your student experience. It is also located in the city center, which gives you a lot of connectivity.
