Robert Gordon University Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Robert Gordon University runs two international intakes, September (primary) and January, per the official RGU application deadlines page. Currency note. All ₹ figures in this article use GBP 1 = ₹127.50 (July 2026). Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Robert Gordon University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

RGU accepts alternative English evidence in specific cases. Indian applicants who studied Class XII in CBSE, ICSE or ISC with a strong Board English mark (typically 70% or higher) may qualify for a case-by-case IELTS waiver. Applicants from Indian universities where the entire Bachelor’s was taught in English can also request a medium-of-instruction (MOI) letter review. The Student Admissions Service confirms waiver eligibility in writing before the offer is made, and Home Office visa rules still apply for UKVI-purposes English proof.

Note. Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Robert Gordon University India page for your chosen program before applying.

Robert Gordon University Postgraduate Programs and Eligibility

Applicants with a lower classification and 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience are reviewed case-by-case. International students who do not meet direct-entry criteria can route through the International College at Robert Gordon University (ICRGU) for a pre-masters pathway.

Insider note: RGU’s MSc Data Science and MSc IT both accept non-computing Bachelor’s applicants, so Indian graduates from BCom or BA backgrounds with strong analytical grades still have a route.

Note. Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official RGU postgraduate applicants page for your chosen program before applying.

Robert Gordon University Undergraduate Programs and Eligibility

Robert Gordon University’s undergraduate suite runs across business, computing, engineering, architecture, health and pharmacy. West Bengal Board applicants qualify with 55% instead of 60%, and Punjab and Haryana Board results are no longer accepted from 2026 entry.

Planning note: Indian UG applicants who miss the direct 60% cutoff can still route via ICRGU’s International Year 1, which progresses into Year 2 of the RGU degree on completion.

Robert Gordon University MBA Admissions for Indian Students

Robert Gordon University’s MBA is a general-management degree run out of Aberdeen Business School. Total international tuition is GBP 12,160 (₹15.50 Lakhs) for the 12-month full-time route, or GBP 6,080 (₹7.75 Lakhs) per year for the 2-year part-time option, per the RGU MBA course page. Both routes intake September and January.

MBA Eligibility for Indian Applicants

  • Academic floor: UK 2:2 Bachelor’s or Indian 55% in any discipline.
  • Work experience: not mandatory but strongly valued for admission and case-based coursework.
  • Lower-degree route: applicants below 55% considered with 2 to 3 years of relevant work.
  • GMAT / GRE: not required by Robert Gordon University for standard entry.

Robert Gordon University MBA Interview

An interview is not published as a formal MBA admissions stage on the RGU course page. Some applicants may be contacted for a short admissions conversation where the profile needs clarification. Indian applicants should have their motivation, career goals and any work-experience narrative ready to explain.

MBA Scholarships and Base Tuition

RGU awards a 10% tuition discount to strong MBA applicants of all nationalities where the application form demonstrates clear career benefit. Indian students should also review the funding for Indian students covering the RGU Postgraduate Award. The base MBA tuition above is the total programme fee, not per year.

Note. Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official RGU MBA page before applying.

Robert Gordon University PhD Admissions and Research Degrees

Robert Gordon University’s research degrees include the PhD (3 to 4 years full-time) and the DBA (Doctor of Business Administration, part-time practitioner doctorate) run by Aberdeen Business School. Applications are made direct to RGU, not via UCAS, and can be submitted year-round subject to supervisor availability.

Robert Gordon University PhD Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s: UK First or Upper Second (~60% Indian) in a relevant discipline.
  • Master’s: Merit-level Master’s in the research field strongly preferred.
  • Research proposal: a 2 to 5 page proposal aligned with an RGU supervisor’s research theme.
  • English test: IELTS 6.5 with 5.5 in each band, or accepted equivalent.

Robert Gordon University PhD Application Steps

Identify a potential supervisor from RGU’s research staff pages, share a draft proposal by email, and after supervisor endorsement submit the formal application with transcripts, CV, references, proposal and English test. The DBA programme follows a similar route with an added professional-experience requirement.

Key insight: RGU PhD funding for Indian applicants is largely competitive, so budget for GBP 17,000 to GBP 19,000 (₹21.68 to 24.23 Lakhs) per year as international tuition unless you secure a full scholarship.

Note. Research-degree tuition, funding and supervisor availability vary annually. Always confirm on the official RGU postgraduate applicants page before applying.

Robert Gordon University Application Process for Indian Applicants

Robert Gordon University uses two application routes: UCAS for undergraduate first-year entry (both direct and via ICRGU) and the RGU direct online portal for postgraduate, MBA and PhD. Every application follows a centralised admissions review, with acknowledgement in 5 working days and offer decisions in several weeks.

  1. Choose your intake and course from the official RGU course catalogue and note the deadline.
  2. Register on the correct portal. UG applicants use UCAS. PG, MBA and PhD applicants use the RGU Apply Online portal.
  3. Upload documents: transcripts, degree certificates, English test, passport, CV, personal statement, references.
  4. Pay the application fee of GBP 28.94 (₹3,690) on the UCAS portal for undergraduate entries. PG applicants pay no application fee to RGU direct.
  5. Receive acknowledgement within 5 working days and wait for the admissions decision.
  6. Accept your offer and clear any academic or English conditions before the condition deadline.
  7. Get your CAS issued by the Immigration Team before the CAS issue date.
  8. Apply for the UK Student visa from the Indian VFS centre 3 to 6 months before term.

Robert Gordon University Admission Decisions

Standard PG offers take several weeks. Conditional offers detail the academic result or English score still needed. UG applicants receive replies via UCAS Track. Once all conditions are cleared by the condition deadline (July 24, 2026 for September start, November 20, 2026 for January), RGU converts the offer to unconditional and issues the CAS. RGU allows deferrals only in limited cases and typically asks applicants to reapply for the next intake instead.

Robert Gordon University Documents Required for International Applications

Indian applicants prepare a single documents pack covering academic history, English proof and identity. Every file must be a clear scan of the original, in English or accompanied by a certified translation. Do not restate academic percentages or IELTS scores here — those belong on the transcripts and score report themselves.

  • Passport bio-page scan (validity beyond the course end date).
  • Class X and Class XII mark sheets and Board certificates for UG applicants.
  • Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate for PG applicants (consolidated or year-wise).
  • Personal statement of around 500 to 700 words on motivation and course fit.
  • Two academic references on letterhead, or one academic plus one employer reference for PG.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV) covering education, work and extracurriculars.
  • English test score report (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic or approved equivalent).
  • Work experience letters for MBA and case-by-case PG applications.
  • Financial proof for the CAS stage — 28-day bank statements covering tuition plus living costs.
  • Scholarship or sponsorship letter if applicable.
  • Research proposal for PhD and DBA applicants only.

Before you apply: Get transcripts and Board certificates attested by your institution’s controller of examinations 6 to 8 weeks before the deadline — delays here are the most common visa blockers.

Robert Gordon University Acceptance Rate for Indian Applicants

Robert Gordon University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party admissions data places the figure at an estimated 70 to 75%, based on RGU’s stated access-oriented model that admits most applicants who meet the published entry floor. For Indian applicants the practical rate is higher when the Class XII or Bachelor’s percentages clear the country-specific threshold and English evidence is submitted upfront.

Which Courses Are More Competitive?

Health and pharmacy courses (BSc Nursing, MPharm, BSc Diagnostic Radiography) run selective admissions with limited seats and additional profession-body vetting. MSc Data Science and MBA fill quickly once the September intake opens. Business and computing UG programmes have wider capacity and admit most Indian applicants meeting the 60% floor.

How to Strengthen Your RGU Application

Submit early (ideally 3 months before the deadline), lead the SOP with a clear career reason tied to the course modules, and reference Aberdeen’s industry links where relevant. Applicants who miss the direct-entry floor by 5% or less should apply to ICRGU pathway rather than skipping the university entirely.

Insider note: RGU’s admissions team consistently notes that Indian applicants who submit a complete document set at first submission see decisions in 2 to 3 weeks, versus 6 to 8 weeks when documents are chased.

United Kingdom Student Visa Guide for Robert Gordon University Applicants

Indian applicants to Robert Gordon University need the UK Student visa (previously Tier 4) once RGU issues the CAS. Applications are made online through the gov.uk Student visa page and biometrics are captured at the Indian VFS centre. Standard processing runs to 3 weeks from a VFS submission outside the UK. The application fee is GBP 558 (₹71,145) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) — a mandatory NHS access fee — is GBP 776 (₹98,940) per year of course length rounded up.

Financial proof is a decisive step. Indian applicants must show first-year tuition plus GBP 1,483 (₹1.89 Lakhs) per month for up to 9 months of living costs (Aberdeen sits outside London for the maintenance rate). Funds must be held for a continuous 28-day period ending within 31 days of the application date. Once granted, register with the local police within 7 days if the visa vignette instructs, and enrol at RGU by the published start date.

2026 update: Graduates from RGU with a Bachelor’s or taught Master’s can apply for the UK Graduate visa for 2 years of post-study work (3 years for PhD), giving Indian graduates open-market work rights in the UK.

Tips for Robert Gordon University Admissions from Indian Applicants

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Robert Gordon University and align with the university’s advertised admissions preferences.

  • Apply 3 months early. RGU closes programmes to new applications when volumes spike, especially MSc Data Science and MBA.
  • Aim for IELTS 6.5 overall even if the course floor is 6.0 — a stronger score simplifies the UKVI English proof step.
  • Attach your MOI letter if your Bachelor’s was fully in English and request a waiver review upfront.
  • Bundle the SOP around Aberdeen’s energy and health sectors for computing, business, engineering or pharmacy applications.
  • Budget GBP 776 (₹98,940) per year for the IHS charge on top of the visa fee.
  • Lock the financial proof 60 days before CAS — the 28-day continuous holding rule is the most-missed visa criterion.
  • Route through ICRGU if you miss the direct 60% or 2:2 floor by a narrow margin.

Robert Gordon University Admissions Checklist for Indian Students

The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete before submitting to Robert Gordon University, sequenced against the deadline.

  • Deadline minus 14 weeks: book IELTS, TOEFL or PTE test date.
  • Deadline minus 10 weeks: request Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts from your school or university.
  • Deadline minus 8 weeks: confirm two referees and share the RGU reference request.
  • Deadline minus 6 weeks: finalise SOP and CV, cross-check against the course page.
  • Deadline minus 3 weeks: upload the application and pay the UCAS UG fee if applicable.
  • Offer plus 2 weeks: accept the offer and start the 28-day financial-proof holding window.
  • CAS plus 1 week: book UK Student visa slot at the Indian VFS centre.

Robert Gordon University admissions favour the applicant who submits early, matches the country-specific academic floor, and clears IELTS 6.0 (UG) or 6.5 (PG) up front. Aberdeen’s practice-led courses and strong Graduate-visa route give Indian students a workable path from a mid-tier Class XII or Bachelor’s profile to a UK degree with post-study work rights.

Overview

We all know that the UK is the hub for education and provide world-class facilities. Aberdeen, where my university is situated, hub for oil and gas industries. As I was applying for oil and gas engineering, I thought it will help me get some projects, site visits and also a job. They provide one year course which is again an advantage in terms of tuition fees and living costs.

Scholarship

RGU have some scholarship schemes for international students. But you have to look for it one intake earlier. If you miss that, still have a chance of getting 2000 pounds. For that scholarship one need to apply during application process.
