The Vice-Chancellor’s award is the flagship undergraduate route at Robert Gordon University. It covers the entire first-year tuition, a saving of roughly INR 20 to 25 Lakhs. Selection is by academic merit, and awardees must join campus activities as brand ambassadors.

The £2,000 International Student Discount applies automatically once the offer letter is issued. Indian students do not need a separate application, but the auto-discount and any named merit scholarship do not stack.

Master’s students at Robert Gordon University face one important rule: only ONE institutional award can apply per programme. The university auto-selects the highest single award, so the £5,000 Merit Scholarship replaces rather than combines with the £3,000 auto-discount.

The Early Deposit Discount and named merit awards appear to combine, though this is worth confirming with scholarship-award@rgu.ac.uk. Indian applicants targeting the January 2027 intake should prioritise the merit route since it doubles the value of the auto-discount.

Reddit Insight: Indian applicants on Robert Gordon University focused study-abroad threads confirm that only one institutional award applies per programme. The university auto-selects the highest, so the £5,000 Merit Scholarship replaces the £3,000 auto-discount rather than adding to it.

The Robert Gordon University GREAT Scholarship, historically open to India, is currently restricted to Indonesia and Pakistan for the 2026-27 cycle. Indian students should instead apply through Chevening or Commonwealth to fully fund an RGU master’s.

India-specific top-ups also come from private and government routes that pair well with the institutional discount:

  • Inlaks Shivdasani Scholarship: up to USD 100,000 total (INR 83.50 Lakhs)
  • KC Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad: up to INR 8.5 Lakhs
  • JN Tata Endowment: INR 1 to 10 Lakhs interest-free loan plus INR 75,000 gift

Robert Gordon University does not publish a fixed institutional PhD scholarship for international students beyond the £3,000 discount. Most funded PhD routes at the university are project-linked studentships advertised by individual research groups in energy, life sciences, computing, and pharmacy.

Indian applicants aiming for a fully-funded PhD should combine the £3,000 discount with an external route like Commonwealth. The Commonwealth PhD covers full tuition and monthly stipend, effectively erasing the self-funding load.

Chevening and Commonwealth are the two routes that convert a fee-paying Robert Gordon University offer into a fully-funded one for Indian applicants. Both open annually between August and December for the following academic year.

Chevening prefers applicants with clear post-study impact plans and demonstrable leadership. The Commonwealth Master’s award prioritises development themes and rejects MBA candidates.

Reddit Insight: Indian Chevening awardees frequently pick RGU MSc Data Science, MSc Cyber Security, and MSc Petroleum Engineering. These programmes align with return-to-India employability and the development criteria Chevening rewards.

Robert Gordon University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum funding an Indian master’s student can access at Robert Gordon University?

Ans. An Indian student combining Chevening with the £500 Early Deposit Discount reaches roughly INR 30 to 35 Lakhs of total support. Chevening alone covers full tuition plus a £1,093 monthly stipend. Without Chevening, the highest single institutional award is the £5,000 Merit Scholarship (INR 6.44 Lakhs), which auto-replaces the £3,000 discount rather than stacking with it.

Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for Robert Gordon University scholarships for the 2027 intakes?

Ans. For January 2027 entry, submit the January Master’s Scholarship application by 5 November 2026. For September 2027 entry, RGU reopens the Merit and Vice-Chancellor’s rounds in early 2027, with tentative deadlines of June 2027 and July 2027. Chevening runs from 4 August to 6 October 2026 for September 2027 study.

Ques. What academic score do Indian students need for the Robert Gordon University International Merit Scholarship?

Ans. The award requires a 1st-class equivalent undergraduate degree. For Indian applicants, that means 75%+ or a CGPA of 8/10 on the primary bachelor’s transcript. Five awards are on offer each September cycle, and selection is by academic merit alone.

Ques. Does the Chevening Scholarship cover Aberdeen living costs while studying at Robert Gordon University?

Ans. Yes. Chevening pays a monthly stipend of £1,093 (INR 1.41 Lakhs) intended for rent, food, and utilities in Aberdeen. Typical student accommodation in Aberdeen costs £500 to £750 per month, so the stipend leaves £300 to £600 for other living expenses.

Ques. How does the January Master’s Scholarship differ from the September Merit Scholarship at Robert Gordon University?

Ans. Both award £5,000, but the January round offers 4 awards with a 5 November 2026 deadline for January 2027 entry. The September Merit round offers 5 awards on a tentative June 2027 deadline. India is explicitly named for the January award, and both accept Indian applicants.

Ques. Is the Robert Gordon University GREAT Scholarship available to Indian students in 2026-27?

Ans. No. For the 2026-27 cycle, the GREAT Scholarship at RGU is restricted to citizens of Indonesia and Pakistan only. Indian applicants should instead pursue Chevening or a Commonwealth Master’s for fully-funded RGU study. The £5,000 institutional Merit Scholarship remains the strongest RGU-funded option for India.

Scholarship

RGU have some scholarship schemes for international students. But you have to look for it one intake earlier. If you miss that, still have a chance of getting 2000 pounds. For that scholarship one need to apply during application process.

We all know that the UK is the hub for education and provide world-class facilities. Aberdeen, where my university is situated, hub for oil and gas industries. As I was applying for oil and gas engineering, I thought it will help me get some projects, site visits and also a job. They provide one year course which is again an advantage in terms of tuition fees and living costs.
