Course Curriculum

4

  • The course was difficult but not to the extent of it being undoable. The positives were the learning experience and the focus on critical thinking.
  • The classes depend on the course. I typically had 3-4 classes 3 days a week.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following universities other than the University of Nottingham i.e. University of Kent, University of Sussex, University of Nottingham, University of Leeds, University of Coventry. I was accepted into all of the above universities but decided on Nottingham because it was ranked the highest for the course and had the best campus.
  • I chose UoN because it had the highest potential for a scholarship and was ranked the best for the course I had chosen among the other universities that I applied to.
  • The admission process was simple—I filled out the application form, which included my information and a statement of purpose. Additionally, I had to submit my transcripts of my undergraduate university grades and two letters of recommendation from my professors at the time. After this, I patiently waited for my offer letter, which was conditional on my receiving a merit grade in my degree.
  • The eligibility criteria are a minimum 6 score on IELTS, 65 in PTE and 80 in TOEFL. I scored 98 on Toefl.
  • The overall admission process was very smooth and normal and I do not recall facing any specific challenges or hardship.
  • I applied for the September 2023 intake. Several factors influenced my decision, including the start dates of the course, and the start date of my accommodation. The admission process took a couple months. I submitted my application in October of 2022 and received my acceptance in December. After this I started preparing for my scholarship application which I submitted in may and got the results in June. After this I applied for my accommodation and visa in the month of July which I got in September.

Faculty

4

  • No, faculty does not help in finding jobs. I admired my supervisor the most as she helped me during and after the completion of my thesis.
  • There were about 50 students in my class, out of which 40 were Indians. The ratio was 1:50, which was quite suitable and convenient.
  • I think the teaching method was quite comprehensive and made interesting for us by the faculty. However, when it comes to jobs, the market is not the best at the moment, but that does not coincide with the teaching process of the faculty.

Campus Life

5

  • On the University Park campus, there are excellent facilities such as the libraries and extensive sports facilities including the David Ross Sports Village, and medical services like the on-site University Health Service.
  • There are also vibrant student events like Freshers' Week which happened in the first week of commencement as well as numerous student clubs. However, for postgraduate students, the rigorous nature of the coursework often limits the time available for sports or extracurricular activities.
  • While there are plenty of clubs, cultural events, and student organizations to get involved in, most postgrad students find themselves focused on their coursework, which can make it hard to participate in everything the university has to offer. With the heavy academic workload, it's often tricky to balance study with joining in on the extracurricular activities that undergrads have more time for.

Part Time Jobs

  • I am not aware of any TA or RA positions for my course or their pay range.
  • Other on-campus jobs include working at the library which would pay about 12 pounds an hour. The maximum hours allowed on a student visa is 20 hours per week. It is quite difficult to secure a part time job on campus due to the exceptionally large number of international students in the UK.
  • Minimum wage is around 11 pounds an hour. It is quite difficult to secure a part time job and in postgrad, I would advise against it due to the pressure of the course.
  • Jobs can be applied to using online portals and/or visiting places with open on vacant positions. Each job has a different procedure which will be mentioned while applying for the job itself.

Placement

2

  • Since I’m still in the process of looking for a job, I don’t have specific data on the percentage of my graduating batch that secures employment within six months, nor do I have an exact average salary range for my program. However, students in similar programs often find jobs through Linkedin, Indeed etc.
  • Regarding my batchmates placement experiences, I don’t have concrete examples yet, as most of us are still actively searching. However, some major companies known to hire graduates from programs like mine typically include consulting firms, tech companies, and organizations in the public and private sectors. These could include names like Deloitte, PwC etc, as well as businesses in HR, management, and organizational consulting. But specific placements will depend on individual networks, internship experiences, and job search strategies.

Accommodation

Off Campus
3

  • I found my accommodation pretty easily through the university’s housing portal. I chose a single bedroom in a shared flat with four other people, and while we had a shared bathroom, the setup worked well for me.
  • Rent, including utilities, came to around £500 a month, which fit my budget nicely. It was only a 15-minute walk from campus, so I could easily get to classes without relying on transport. This made life so much easier, both for saving money and managing time.
  • Overall, I didn’t run into any issues finding a place, and it was a pretty smooth process for me.

Exams

  • For admission to the University of Nottingham, IELTS, TOEFL OR PTE was required. Additionally, if you could prove that your coursework was in the English language then that could be a proof of knowing English language.
  • The following documents were essential for completing my application:
    1. Statement of Purpose (SOP)
    2. Letters of Recommendation (LOR)
    3. Academic Transcripts
    4. Proof of English Proficiency
    5. Scholarship Application Essay and Responses
  • An interview was not a formal part of my application process for the Organizational Psychology program.

Fees

  • The tuition fees for my course were set at £26,000 for the academic year, with accommodation costs amounting to an additional £7,000, which covered all bills and utilities.
  • The tuition fees were structured to be paid on a semester-wise basis, allowing for some flexibility in managing finances.
  • Each month, I spent approximately £400 on food, groceries, and other miscellaneous expenses, such as transportation, social outings, and personal items, bringing my monthly budget to around this amount for daily living essentials.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I was awarded the Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship, which provided £8,000 toward my tuition fees.
  • The eligibility criteria for this scholarship were based on the quality of my application, including an essay and responses to specific scholarship-related questions.
  • Several of my batchmates were also successful in securing scholarships, with awards reaching up to 50% of the course fees for some recipients. However, I am not fully aware of the exact average scholarship amount or the total funding awarded to students.
