What Students Say
Likes
- Business Career cell is very supportive and they will provide you number of resources to apply for the companies.
- Quality of Faculty is impressively nice, you will definitely get to experience the classes of really skilled and amazing professors.
- The campus is amazing , business campus and university main park campus both are beautiful, you can spend time on your own.
Dislikes
- There should be a hopper bus available to commute to city center, hopper is generally free for students which run between the campuses, but there should be atleast 2 or 3 free bus services for students a day specially after evening or night time.
- Societies are expensive for international students sometimes, they can have a look into it .
- There should be more interactive sessions within the courses or similar fields, generally they held the sessions all over the universities, it's hard to narrow down the group and be frank to talk to people.
Course Curriculum
- The course curriculum is quite difficult; if you don't pay attention, it will not help you to build fundamentals and you will eventually lag behind other students. In UoN, I would say scoring 80 or above is quite difficult. In fact, students manage to get a merit-level degree with significant struggle.
- The scenario may vary for other courses, but for business analytics, it is quite challenging and tricky to manage the academics. because there is a lot to study and know in just one year of span. The syllabus is huge, so be mentally prepared.
- In my course, there are 12 Indian students out of 48 students. In the first semester, I had classes every day for 2 hours. It depends on which optional module you are taking as well.
Admission Experience
-
I applied to 5 universities, got an offer letter from 4 universities, and got 1 rejection.
I received offer letters from the University of Nottingham, the University of Leeds, the University of Bristol, & the University of Exeter; I got rejection from the University of Manchester because of some document issue, but I received scholarships from all the universities for which I got offer letters; Nottingham provided me 40% of the e-scholarship. Exeter offered me more, but it was not in my preference at all. - The overall admission was smooth, I did a lot of research, and for my domain, i.e., business analytics, Nottingham was one of the best, their career employability is higher, and I also got a scholarship, which was one of the main reasons, and being a small city, Nottingham is cheaper to stay in. I went for IELTS; to get an admission, generally 7 points are recommended. Also, I maintained 8 points throughout my career journey and had 3 years of work experience.
- I simply went to the university portals and applied the forms based on the priority; I followed the QS ranking and alumni reviews from different websites before choosing which university to apply for. Writing a good and crisp SOP is advised; the reason to select the major and future prospects are needed to be cleared in mind before writing it.
- I got admission in the September intake. I was a working IT professional in India. I gradually decided to resume my study and pursue the master's degree.
- I started applying in November, by December I got offer letters, and by February I got a scholarship. In March, I had to pay a specific amount of tuition fees to make sure my place on the admissions committee. In the month of April, I received the CAS letter, which is mandatory to apply for the visa. Meanwhile, I started looking for accommodations and booked an affordable place that costs me 500 GBP per month; this was the lowest budget on my list, so I booked it.
- On May, I booked my flights and applied for VISA, and it was successful.
Faculty
- Faculty members are very helpful to assist students to get internships, full time job. Teaching methodology is a bit different form India, here nobody will point you out or judge you for questioning; the best practice would be start questioning to professors, it will be more engaging and queries can be cleared.
- I admire Gavin Smith for his exceptional way of teaching; he focuses more on foundations and makes sure every student is being sincere in their academics.
Campus Life
- There are plenty of societies in every possible domain; you can be a part of them and the events held by them. sometimes, a lot of events are open to all; you can join and have fun with other students. Library and medical facilities are for every one, for sports, you have to take the membership to be a part of it.
- There is a student union that organised loads of events; you have to follow them on social media and websites for better knowing.
Part Time Jobs
- I am not quite sure about the pay range of the TA, RA, DA jobs. But there are opportunities for these role for the students who are pursuing PHD programme. There are few of university job offers you can find on the university job portal. which is a college job portal. hourly wages for the part time job are 12 GBP .Maximum hours of allowed for an international student is 20 hours per week.
- For the part time jobs, Indian students mostly works in warehouses, care, catering fields. referrals are very useful here, if you get one do apply. else you have to separately apply through the official websites. It is not easy to work in part time along with manages households, finance, studies at the same time. you have to be efficient in time management.
Placement
- Masters students have to go through the graduate scheme process; for international students, there are no opportunities to go for an internship or full time due to visa restrictions.
- Students generally apply through the company job portals. The average salary package starts for an freshers associate is 29000-35000 GBP per annum. PWC, GSK, BT, Accenture, IBM, Barracudas, HSBC, etc. are the companies in different corporate sectors to apply for.
Accommodation
- I have booked an off-campus accommodation; it costs me 500 GBP per month including all the bills, there is no TV, so I don't have to pay for that.
- The best thing is it is a 10-minute walk from my university campus, clearly visible form the window. There will be plenty of off campus accommodations that are cheaper than the on-campus ones. Do some research before booking yours.
Exams
- IELTS is required; having 7 points is recommended to get admission in good universities. The most important documents to apply for admissions are letters of recommendation from your academic guides (get at least 2) and a LOR from your workplace. Keep your CV, Statement of Purpose, and transcripts of your last degree result ready with you.
- For my case, there was no interview process I had to go through.
Fees
- I pay my college tuition fees semester wise, my scholarship amount get deducted in every semester form the due amount. If you want to pay in one go, you can.
- My accommodation fees are exclusive, it costs me 500 GBP per month including all the utility bills . Apart form it, please expect a monthly expense of 150 GBP on groceries and miscellaneous.
- On campus accommodations are bit expensive, it will cost you nearly 800 GBP per month including all the bills, rooms will be spacious of course.
Scholarship
- I got a 40% scholarship of the tuition fees, It was Post Graduate Excellence Scholarship, this is a merit based or profile based scholarship that the university offers to the students. You don't have to apply for this scholarship exclusively.
- The University of Nottingham provides you plenty of scholarship offers, you need to follow the portal . Also, the early applicants holding an impressive profile get 30% of scholarships in general. Nottingham provided 100% scholarship to students as well, based on their scholarship application form . Three people form my course got 100% of scholarship.
- Their deadline for the application of the scholarships are generally opened till May first week. GREAT scholarship can offer you 10,000 GBP , there is a developing solution scholarship as well, which can offer you 50 to 100% of the tuition fee.
