What Students Say
Likes
- Student centric wherein there is focus on the student's wellbeing
- Disciplined in terms of classroom etiquette
- Fair when it comes to judging grades
Dislikes
- Doesn't have too many places to stay within the college campus
- Connectivity to different buildings is not very easy
- Large campus
Course Curriculum
- I would describe the difficulty level of our course curriculum as medium. It was more theoretical during the contact hours and practical during the non-contact hours so it was a good mix of both.
- The most positive and negative aspects of our course that stand out to me are the few contact hours and the independent research, respectively.
Admission Experience
- I applied for the following universities:
- Loughborough University – Admitted
- However, it was very expensive as compared to The University of Nottingham. Also, Nottingham was a far more student-friendly place. It is also at a very central location. Even the stay was cheaper. Not to forget the cost of living in terms of the daily expenses.
- The cost of living in Nottingham is not very high as compared to other universities. It is a student-friendly place. Lidl is not too far from the campus, which is very pocket friendly. They also had the course that I wanted, as I wanted to persue Entrepreneurship and specialise in Sustainability. London was very expensive but Nottingham is a very central location.
- The 2017 intake was the one I applied to, and the factors that influenced my decision were the cost, my parents' preference and the subjects offered.
- The admission process took 6 months. A detailed timeline from application to acceptance is the following:
- The Application was in the month of January 2017.
- The Acceptance was in the month of June 2017.
Class Schedule
- 5 classes are typically scheduled in a day, and the usual timings are 9am-3pm
- The average number of students in our class was 25. 17 Indian students are enrolled in our course.
Faculty
- The faculty-to-student ratio in our course was 1:5.
- This ratio influenced the quality of education and interaction with faculty quite positively.
- I would describe the teaching methodology of your faculty members as very practical. The course content and teaching approach are sufficient to prepare you for securing a job in your field.
- The faculty members did assist students in finding part-time or full-time jobs through their personal networks or references.
- The faculty member I admire the most was Isobel O'Niel, and what makes her stand out was her approachability.
Campus Life
- The University of Nottingham has six campuses: four in Nottinghamshire (University Park, Jubilee, Sutton Bonington, and King's Meadow) and two overseas campuses in China (Ningbo) and Malaysia (Semenyih).
- The facilities are available on our campus, such as the library and sports facilities.
- The major campus festival, club, or any popular event that takes place at our college is the Winter Ball.
- Some detailed information about the extracurricular activities, such as sports, cultural events, student organisations, etc would be that the student union stands out as an exceptionally good one. The sports teams are quite competitive too. They have cultural events like international students fashion shows.
Part Time Jobs
- Many students typically secure Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) positions.
- The pay range for TA/RA/DA positions is around 21,000 pounds.
- The other on-campus job available for students is International students staff. The usual hourly wage is around 10 pounds.
- The maximum hours of work allowed per week is 20. It is very difficult to secure an on-campus part-time job.
- Students typically earn on an hourly basis in their part-time jobs 10 pounds on average. It is very difficult for students to secure part-time employment while studying. The usual process for students to apply for part-time jobs is submitting the resume to the company and waiting for a response. The steps involved are searching for job openings on sites like indeed, submitting applications or resumes and attending interviews.
Placement
- 99 per cent of your graduating batch secures employment within 6 months of completing their course.
- The students can expect to earn 21,000 to 31,000 pounds upon graduation.
- Students usually find jobs after graduation through LinkedIn. The common methods are campus recruitment, internships, networking, and online job portals like indeed and LinkedIn.
- The placement experiences of my batchmates were such that most of them headed back to their countries to take over family businesses or start their own business.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation using online platforms.
- The monthly rent for accommodation was 50000, and the facilities included a bed mattress, wardrobe, mirror, and shared toilet (among 3).
- The challenges I encountered while finding or securing your accommodation were the ability to connect with staff easily and finding the cheapest option.
- Based on my experience, I do have some recommendations for future students seeking accommodation: Raleigh Park is the best.
- The accommodation from the college campus is a 5-minute walk away. Most of the Indian students stayed outside campus.
Exams
- The IELTS exam was the required exam for admission to my university or college.
- The documents that are necessary to complete the admission process at my university or college were the Statement of Purpose, passport, birth certificate, 10th marks card (ICSE), 12th marks card and graduation marks card.
- An interview was not part of my application process.
Fees
- Fee is 18 lakhs in Indian rupees
- Stay is 6 lakhs in Indian rupees
- Food is 2.5 lakhs in Indian rupees
- Food and other expenses I meant 2.5 lakhs
- Airfare not included
- Food expenses depend on how you spend, where you buy your groceries, etc. Stores like Lidl and Poundland are quite cheap.
- Other expenses also depend on your lifestyle and preferences. This is a very nominal quotation.
Scholarship
- My batchmates did receive scholarships or other forms of financial aid.
- About 2 in 10 students, on average, receive scholarships each year, and 10 per cent to 70 per cent of the fees is the typical award amount.
- 4 of my very close friends enjoyed the scholarship. They were all international students.
