Course Curriculum

10

  • The academics was pretty good. The seminar halls are well constructed and the teaching is very hands on. You get a lot of exposure to new things. And extremely supportive staff as well. Whenever a doubt or even if you want to have a discussion, you can reach out to them.
  • There was Mooodle where all the documents and ppts were uploaded. You could ask your questions there as well and would receive a prompt reply.
  • There were a lot of Indian students. Exact count is hard to tell but around 10/15. Again, it was a very hands on learning. You learn to prepare for the class before the class itself so you can have productive discussions.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to- University of Glasgow, University of Nottingham, Middlesex University, Queens University, Belfast.
  • I had gotten accepted in all 4 universities and was able to secure a seat. I did not have to worry about rejections or not being able to secure a seat but from my point of view the majority trouble is with your SOP not being good or your marks. I also personally think, it depends on when you submit the application as well- if the university has seats or not.
  • I chose the University of Nottingham. My main reasons for choosing it were- Affiliated with the Russell Group. The university was also known for its career guidance support. Nottingham lies in the east side, which was also one of the reasons since it would not be that cold compartively and the accent is heavy towards Glasgow which might make it hard to sometimes understand people.
  • My eligibility criteria was to score good marks in my bachelors.
  • They did not require IELTS as I had English as a subject in my bachelors.
  • It was a good experience overall.
  • I applied for the Sept intake in 2022. My SOP, my marks in bachelors, my CV were taken into consideration.
  • Admission process mostly takes a month or so. Once you’ve applied, depending on the time they take, they send an offer letter. Unconditional- if you are still in bachelors and conditional once you have completed all the terms mentioned in the conditional offer letter.

Faculty

  • I admire my mentor during dissertation the most. He pushed me to read and learn more and helped me out when I was having a hard time as well.
  • The teachers were very engaging. Queries were answered on time. Help was provided whenever required. Everyone had a tutor appointed who used to help figure out the academic details and incase if a student requires extra support.

Campus Life

10

  • Our college has 3 campuses. All of the above mentioned facilities are there in the university.
  • They host a lot of clubs as well for example- travelsoc, artsoc, for legos, for gymnastics, for swimming, for basket ball etc. Any kinds of interest a person has, a person can explore.
  • They also take you on some really amazing tours as well around the country as well as outside.
  • Lewis Capaldi had come to our college for the testing of our new machine developed for people with Tourette’s.

Part Time Jobs

  • I’m not quite sure on that but I do believe that children secure the positions based on their talent and ability and ofcourse networking. It is all about knowing the right people. When you are in uni, you are allowed 20 hours per week of work. After university, you can work upto 40 hours. It is a little hard to get jobs through online portals. It is best recommended to go to local vendors and enquire.
  • Mostly, restaurants- fast food joints. Places such as these are where you’ll find more Indians working. Students can use the help of university as well but it is best to go approach local vendors or food stores or clothing stores to ask for a roll. You can then submit your resume and have an interview. The interviews are also not very scary. People are a lot nicer.

Placement

6

  • There are several opportunities but then again depends on connections you have made. University holds career fares and all so it is best to form connections during those times.
  • It is also advisable to contact people in the companies to be able to get a reference. I took up work with special needs children because I had studied psychology. Finding jobs is a hard work and not very easy. It depends a lot on luck as well.

Accommodation

Off Campus
4

  • I chose an off campus accommodation- near the city centre. I found it through agencies and ads posted on Open Rent or Rightmove.
  • The monthly rent came up to 500-600 pounds. Including all the bills. I did not like my accommodation much because their management was extremely poor.
  • I would suggest students to look for in campus accommodations- that way you can engage more and even outside with your friends.

Exams

  • Statement of Purpose, Letters of Recommendation, Resume, marks scored in bachelors- all these factors were taken into consideration. I did not have to give IELTS because I had already taken English in my bachelors as a subject.
  • No, an interview was not the part of the application process. For me, I had my conditions as- Scoring good marks in my bachelors.

Fees

  • My fees was broken down to installments. 3 installments. The living costs were around 500-600 pounds per month for me.
  • That included all my bills. For food- I used to go to Indian stores where I could get all the necessary stuff I needed.
  • Average it used to be around 25 pounds per week. Transportation- you can buy a year round bus pass- helps you save cost on transportation.

Scholarship

  • Yes there were scholarships available and awards as well. I personally took part in the Nottingham Advantage award.
  • There are different types of scholarships the university provides that are mentioned on their page based on the country you belong to. The two types of academic ones were- 50% and 100% scholarships. The amount of students who receive is quite unsure.
