What Students Say
Likes
- My department's faculty is literally the best they are knowledgeable and they know how to convey the knowledge too.
Dislikes
- The placement. It is very low and not guaranteed.
- Corruption is going on a lot these days. The management keeps doing stupid things to count for the funds sent by the government.
- The attitude of some of the faculty members towards students. Some are good but most of them are so arrogant that students are afraid to get into arguments with them.
Course Curriculum Overview
The teaching methods of the faculty is very good if I talk about petroleum department. Talking about the others, I've heard they are really very bad and a lot of them don't even know what they are teaching. According to me, the syllabus is very relevant to the real world applications and other examinations for further studies as well. We have mid sems about 1.5 months after starting of the semester and end sems after 1 month of it. It is suitable enough to prepare the syllabus.
Fees and Financial Aid
When I took admission, the fees was 1,43,500 per semester but now when I'm in third year it is increased by 5500. Academic fees right now is 1,29,000 and the mess fee is 20,000. This is per semester which means per year is the double of it. It is lesser for some categories who have reservation.
Campus Life
Earlier all the fests were held separately but from 2025 they conducted all the fests in a combined one for 7 days. I would say I liked it better when they were seperate. For sports we had Energia; for science and technology, Urjotsav; Kaltarang for cultural and Sauhardya for social council. I liked Energia the most because I love sports and there is good scope if people are interested. For example last year my team was very good but this year I couldn't even form a team because players were not enough so it depends. All the other fests are exciting too and I love to enjoy them. We have several clubs too, sports clubs, S&T club, social council, etc. Some of these are active while others are dead. This also depends on the batch of the students that have positions of responsibilities.
Admission
The most important thing that mattered to my parents which caused them to take interest in this college was that it is a central government college and an institute of national importance on top of that. Also, other colleges I was getting were either too far away or were very expensive. Although according to a government college, RGIPT's fees is also very high but still lesser when compared to the others I was applying to. For admission, we have to fill out the form. The eligibility criteria is that you should have JEE Advanced rank. If the seats after allocation through Advanced are vacant, those are filled through JEE mains rank. Cutoff varies per year so there is no particular trend as such as far as I have noticed. Overall admission experience was good and easy too.
Faculty
In petroleum department, most of the faculty is intelligent and very good teachers too. Some of them are approachable and some not. My favorite is Shailesh sir, he has the best way of teaching and he makes sure that we remain motivated for our future. I haven't had any problems with the other faculty members so I'm not really sure about them. On the other hand, faculty of other departments are very arrogant not helpful at all. Most of them don't even know how to teach. We have one mid sem and one end sem exam per semester and they are medium to hard in difficulty. The number of students failing depends on the leniency of the faculty member. Our course curriculum is based on the GATE syllabus so it is quite good.
Night Life
After classes, some students like to go to rambharose, it is type of a small dhaba outside the college and they make very good chai. Some start sports or gym as soon as the classes are over and some prefer to be in their rooms to sleep or study. The best part is that we don't have any timings for coming back to hostel, we still have to be inside the campus by 8 pm if we don't have a pass but no timings for hostel neither for boys nor for the girls. We have a cafeteria which closes by 8 pm and night canteen that opens from 10 pm to 3 am. The college campus is safe even if you want to roam at 3 am in the night there is no threat.
