What Students Say
Likes
- Really well built infrastructure , like you have everything you can possibly need in this college... Proper hygeine , spacious area , modern infrastructure , labs , playing fields etc etc
- Multitude of events and various clubs to choose from , based upon your hobby. CU really emphasizes on overall growth of the student
- Very great placement opportunities overall , lots of companies hiring every year and if you are competent... You are bound to be selected due to such great exposure
Dislikes
- Teachers aren't very great out there , various new teachers and part timers... Overall the guidance might be bad at times
- School like strictness in college really restricts your personal freedom with various overly strict rules
- Too much student crowd , the teacher of student ratio isn't good which affects the individual attention every student gets here.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course in itself is hyper focused over placement patterns , which is a really good thing in my opinion... like various real world concepts like DSA , DBMS , Web Development which company demands is all taught here... the curriculum really makes sure that the student knows all the relevant fields before sitting in placement drives. There's honestly little scope for implement , but if I've to say then they should hire more organic teachers who arent voerly bookish and can explain the concept without looking into the ppt in a way that students can fully grasp. the exams are held on interval of one month , three exams in total of moderate difficulty and are fairly well planned to keep you engaged throughout the semester.
Placement Experience
There are a multitude of oppurtunities in placements at CU , you become eligible at around 5-6th Semester ( it varies ) All major companies like amazon , godaddy , Deloitte , Wipro , Microsoft and 1000+ more companies visit the campus resulting into a staggering 8000+ offers recieved by students of the University Highest package in my current session of placement is 41 LPA by Godaddy and average is somewhere around 6-7LPA , there are a multitude of post offered from Software engineer to developer , database management , buisness analyst , data analyst etc Placement percentage is a really variable factor but more than 50% of students surely gets placed for the bare minimum. My personal plans after the degree is to either get a decent paying job or pursue higher education which highly depends on future scenario.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fees structure for CU is around 106k per semester, which doesn't include the hostel charges. You have to pay extra 100k for hostel yearly. About the scholarship , you can gain upto 50% Scholarship on tution fees via CUCET exams and if you want to maintain that scholarship , you need to maintain bare minimum 7.5 CGPA , failing to do so will result in termination of scholarship program. And ofc the fees is gradually increasing every year , for new admissions , it's around 130k roughly
Campus Life
Campus life is one of the major positive part of Chandigarh University as they really offer an insane variety of extra ciricular acitivties to participate in... Throughout the year , theres many different events held to boost student enthusiasm like CU tech Invent in month of October , CU Fest in April , Many Concerts of famous regional singers , Punjab day celebration in early November etc. They have one library in each block which severely boosts the acessibility of these books to student , the journals in CU are mainly tech related via IEEE. The classroom mainly follows board and marker format but theres a projector installed which is often use on the white wall to show the ppt in larger format to teach student from it. Sports is really promoted in here , they have an entire sports complex for students , basketball ground , cricket ground , badminton court , all required acessories and even indoor sports like table tennis as installed. There are a lot of Clubs available for students to choose from like C-square for coders , Eloquence Consortium for literature related events and other cultural clubs which makes sure that student in CU doesnt only grow academically but also socially and emotionally.
Hostel Facilities
I never rented a room or PG , so ill be telling about my hostel only. Firstly , facilities provided... mostly a single room for 4 students ( bed, desk , chairs and almirahs for each ) its a bit congested but the hygiene is well mantained. Meal is mediocre to below mediocre in quality , but its eatable in the very least... theres quite a lot of variations in food but they somehow mess up all of them. Registration process is done swiftly online and 100k per year is like 8.5k per month which cover your food and no travelling charges either , so its quite affordable in my opinion but restricts your choices.
Admission
Ive mainly applied for three colleges being CU , KIIT and DU ( via Cuet ) and eventually got acceptance in all three but KIIT is way too far off my home and it was my first time outside home so my parents wanted me to take admisison somewhere close and thats why i couldnt go to KIIT , My first priority was DU but CUET results were getting so late that I couldnt risk my admission for the sake of results and thats why I had to join CU which I dont really regret. There's no real eligibility critirea except a student just needs to fill the form and pass the CUCET exams held by the University ( mainly for scholarship purposes ). The entire admission process for me was done online ( even the hostel allocation ) and it went really smooth and completed within an evening. You can also take admission in physical mode and they have many counters and staffs appointed for that purpose.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio isn't really great Which really affects the individual focus over a single student. The approachability of faculty varies tbh , like it really depends on the teacher... There are good and bad both , some overly unapproachable while others are friendly. I don't really interact much with faculties outside of class but if I've to say Swati mam who teaches us Cybersecurity lab was really understanding about my physical condition and helped me a lot with projects , assignments and was always open for doubts. On the other hand , Miss Bhawna goyal who teaches us Cybersecurity theory was never the type to take doubts , she rather mocked the person at times and acted rude in front of entire class ( Rare case but true ). As for exams , there's are three exams MST 1 , 2 and EST Finals... All of them are moderate in difficulty. I can't say exact numbers of failures but it's less than 5-10% of total strength. It's overall an easy exam to clear. And yes , the course curriculum is very much relevant and focused to placement trends.
Interview Experience
There was only one CUCET Examination for admission and scholarship. The syllabus was your basic CBSE of 10th and 12th class so anyone who is well versed with that should have no problem here. Just go throughout the CBSE books , practice questions , build logical reasoning and it will be fine.
Night Life
Now this part , CU doesnt have much of a night life. Hostel gates close at 10pm for boys and 9pm for girls , there are still a few vendors within hostel but nothing major and they also close at 11pm. Gym facilities are available in morning 6am or evening 5pm for few hours , Library is available till 8pm ( only the main library allows overnight stay with permission ) , Cafes are mostly a day thing as all of them close by the night time because the campus gates are shut. Timings are simple , 6am to 10pm for students in general to go out of hostel to college campus. If you want to go out of college campus , you need day-out or night-out pass. Not many famous hangout spots out here except Fountain park in A block , Sports complex , FR food plaza mainly. The locality is safe as there wasnt any major case around in 3years of my stay but they still are overly cautious with students and dont allow roaming at night.
