What Students Say
Likes
- I like my college's environment. It's full of trees and the atmosphere around there surreal me. Personally I feel I'm studying amidst nature and I like spending my time with nature. So the best thing about my college is its "ENVIRONMENT".
- From the first day of my college till now, another best thing happened was the people whom I met. There is no ragging between seniors and juniors. Seniors are super friendly. They will help us clarify our doubts.
- One of the key things which I liked , they give prior importance to placements. Obviously one of the main objectives of going to college is to get placed. The placement department is doing better at training students for the placements.
Dislikes
- One of the things which I disliked was poor teaching of faculties. Some teach very well. But some are completely the worst. Their way of articulation is very poor. They just present some ppts and they will read it and end the class.
- Faculties should have the deeper knowledge of the subject. They should be able to give the answers even for the tricky questions which students may ask. The college syllabus doesn't seem relevant to today's industrial field and technologies.
- The infrastructure is not quite good. Buses are terrible . Similarly the infrastructure of the hostel and the food provided in hostel are worse. Amenities like washroom are okay. Classrooms should be fitted with AC's
Course Curriculum Overview
I decided to study Computer Science and Engineering as it is the highest paying field today. Some aspects including AI , ML and Cybersecurity sparked my interest and made me choose this course. To be honest, current curriculum has already become outdated. There are no subjects related to the emerging technologies like Generative AI, AI tools, Power BI etc.The current curriculum must be improvised. It should be equiped with the latest and new and even emerging technologies like Blockchain etc. The faculties must be trained with these technologies so that it would be easier for them to teach the students.
Internships Opportunities
Our college provides internships with stipends . The placement department takes care of this. Some of the MNC companies like Amazon and TCS conduct coding tests and the students who perform really well are selected for a 6 month internship. Mechanical and Automation department has informed students with no history of arrear and a CGPA of 7.5 and above will be provided internship. The criteria they expect is students should have no history of arrears and a decent cgpa. For departments like Computer Science and Engineering, companies conduct coding rounds to test our problem solving skills and students who perform well will be provided internships. Recently two students have been selected for internship in Amazon for 6 months with a stipend of Rs.1 lakh. Apart from this, students who win hackathons will be provided internships. So students who has good communication skills, good problem solving skills and logical thinking can easily secure an internship.
Placement Experience
Our college is well known for its placements. Almost many MNC companies like Amazon,TCS, visit our college and recruit the top performing students.Students are instructed to do 30 days of internship in remote, hybrid or industrial online before their 6th semester.During the 7th semester, students become eligible to attend the placements. The highes package offered previous year was 21 lakhs per annum and the average package is around 5 lakh per annum. Here students receive 3 options 1. Placement 2. Masters 3. Government Exams . As far off noe, 98%percentage of students who opt for placements get placed. I want to get placed after finishing my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
Currently I'm in second year. I came under government counselling quota and so the fees will be comparatively low than the students who join under management quota. In my first year, summing all the fees, I paid Rs.182200( One Lakh Eighty Thousand Two Hundred). The detailled fees structure are given below. 1.Tution fee:55000 2.Development fee:5000 3.Academic admin fee:2000 4.Other charges:70200 5.Transport:50000 And if a hosteller, he/she should additionally pay Rs.125000 I'm a dayscholar,so my total fees was Rs.182200. Apart from this , first graduates get 27500 deduction from the fees. So a first graduate has to pay Rs.154700.For the SC/ST with ADW scholarship, 55000 will be deducted. So they had to pay Rs.127200.For the government school students, their entire fees is taken care by the government. So they dont need to pay .This fees structure is for CSE/AUT/CIIVIL/CSE/CHE/ECE/EEE/IT/MECH. For the students of Marine, their total fees structure is Rs.322200. Similarly for AI & DS, / MECH & AUTOMATION ,their total fee structure is Rs.177200. And for the students who come under management quota, they should pay donation which depends on department ,they are going to choose.I'm from CS department and some of my batchmates come under management quota. They had to pay donation of Rs.8 lakh additionally and their total fee structure was Rs.200500. There are many scholarships avalaible for students in our college. BC/MBC scholarship for minorities which aids Rs.10000 per year. Women's scholarship for women which aids Rs.5000 per year
Campus Life
The campus life is extraordinary. As mentioned earlier, people here are very friendly. If you can be nice to others, then you can definetly make a lot of friends. When it comes to club, there are many clubs in our college. Dance club,Music club, Curtain cell,Photo Club,Shortfilm Club and in every departments, there are many technical clubs. In our Computer Science department, there are two technical clubs. Association of Computer Engineers(ACE) and Association of Computer Machinery(ACM) . We have HIGHWAYS which is our biggest cultural event which takes place around the month of April-May. It takes place usually for 2 days. When it comes to library, our library has the best infrastructure compared to other infrastructures in our college. All varieties of books are available subject oriented, entrance exams , personal development all kinds of books are available. Each classrooms has a projector and which enables digitalized learning. Coming to sports, our college gives the top priority to cricket. Apart from cricket, sports like football, badminton, volleyball, basketball, table tennis are also given importance.
Admission
I got this college through Conselling quota based on Merit.I've had put some colleges before placing this college . They were College of Enginnering Guindy, MIT(Madras Institute of Technology) and then SSN (Shiv Nadar University). I couldn't get into these colleges since my cutoff was comparatively low than what was required to get into this college. Then I had my college in the option list and the seat got alllocated . Other than counselling and management, our college doesnt conduct any entrance exams like VIT or SSN. I placed this college because it had a good record of placements and the campus looked good and the academics they were also nice.
Faculty
Departments like CSE,IT, ECE, AI & DS have a strength of 60 students in each class. We have 6 to 7 theory papers and 2 to 3 practical labs, depending on each semester. Each subjects are handled by different faculties and the labs are handled by the faculties who are teaching the respective theory subject, along with that there will be an additional faculty for the respective labs. Faculties are approachable .We can meet them when they are free in their cabin. Some of the best faculties are 1.Sivapratheesha mam - She taught English. Her articulation of words, her way of teaching I really liked them .She is not too strict nor too easy going. But she always makes sure every student gets the attention. 2.Poorni mam- She was the faculty for Data mining and data warehousing in my second semester. She was friendly with al the class. 3.Janani mam-She was the faculty for Object Oriented Programming System. She teaches very well and she also gives important notes which are really helpful for the exams, Some of the faculty whom I dont like are, Vishalakhi mam, Krishna sir, Mani sir , Murugan sir -I didnt like these faculties. They always seem to be rude and they always causes troubles and many more. Coming to the exams , as mentioned earlier , there are 6 or 7 subjects per semester . We have 3 internal exams which are called Formative Assesment Exams(FAT) per semester. The exams depend on the faculty who teaches. Some give important questions before the exam , some don't. Some exam would be difficult and some would be easy. It all depends on the faculty. Generally the end semester exams are tougher and internal exams are easier. Most students would pass these exams. Since the important questions are given out, the average pass percentage for a class would be 80% per exams. So that's not the problem. And honestlly speaking our college syllabus had become irrelavant. With the rise of AI , the college syllabus should be reframed.
Night Life
Our college has two canteens. Food avalaible in both these canteens are above average. There is no non-veg in this college. If you are a die-hard non-vegetarian, then you would be disappointed for sure. We have tea, coffee, samosa, fresh juice, etc,Apart from both of these canteens, there is a CHILLOUT where we can buy snacks and chill some time out.It is completely safe, especially for women, as there will be security guards 24/7. Some of the famous hangout places inside the college are OAT,Bus bay. Also we have a theatre near to our college. We have a gym seperate for boys and girls, and it is decent too. Class starts at 8:30 am and ends at 3:15 pm. We have 15 15-minute break and 40 40-minute lunch break
