Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curicullum is so relavant and good. It is appropriate and topics in gate are covered .But still few of the methods are old, the curriculum and course contents are not updated and still follow past years

Internships Opportunities

3

Students get internships mostly during 5th semester of their college. Many companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon comes for internships. The stipend is also mostly 60k+ in most of the sde and tech roles while in core internships the stipend is bit low and the companies coming are also low

Placement Experience

3

Students become eligible for placements from 7th semester, few students also get pre placement offer from their interships after their 6th semester or in the mid 7th semester. Almost 70% of placement rate in our department with hifhest package around 60lpa and median is 17lpa

Fees and Financial Aid

Tution fees per semester is around 1,30,000 for general students. SC and ST students have full fee waiver , they only pay for hostel which is around 33,000 per semester. Apart from this institute also offers full fee waiver for students with annual income below 1 lakh and 50% fee waiver for annual income below 6 lakhs

Campus Life

4

College has 3 main fests Alcheringa(Cultural fest), Techniche (Tech fest), Spirit (Sports fest) apart from this there are also events like TedX , udgam. There are many Tech, cultural and sports club having a dedicated space in college for each one of them

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel rooms are okayish, equiped with a fan, light ,bed and cupboard . Room is quite small and double sharing for intial 2 yrs of college. Meal is also good. Affordability of hostel it is not so expensive when compared to outside

Admission

I applied to several other IITs. I cleared JEE Advanced and opening rank to enter our department in IITG for girls is around 12k rank. This is one of the old IIT, so i preffered this clg over other clgs and over other branches in other clgs, since it offers lot of exposure and has more opportunities

Faculty

3

Each course is taught by a faculty and assisted by few TAs (teaching assistants) who are mostly Phd or mtech 2nd year students. Usually approaching faculty for doubts is through mails and outside class few may take doubt sessions also. For few courses there will be tutorial classes , where sir gives questions and assists you in solving (students are divided into grps )each grp has 40-50students under 1 or 2 TAs and a main TA usually a Phd research scholar

Night Life

4

For first years initial 3months there used to reatriction till 10pm in night but there is no restriction in hostel after that. However most of the areas like New Sac (student activity centre) , many public areas closes by 12 and before.Night life is amazing in college the serenity is very nice, there are many places and lakes to hangout in clg

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum they will show you before admission is completely different what you will be getting. They will be covering things but not with a higher level. In a subject easy topics will be covered but when teacher find any topic difficult , it will not come in exam since everyone has to pass the exam. They can just follow the GATE exam curruculum and that would be enough for any students to outperform after engineering with real time lap teaching. There is semister exam only where you will have to give workshop and lab exam along with theory paper

Placement Experience:

Placements start from 7th semester (4th Year). Companies like Amazon, Legato, TCS, Synopsis, etc. visit for on campus placements. We have a very good placement ratio and average package. For CSE, the average package was 13 LPA and 92% students were placed. While for ECE, the average package was 8 LPA and 66% students were placed. I'm planning on gaining work experience for 2 years after my B.Tech and then pursue MS Or M.Tech from abroad.

Remarks:

I choosed because my CEE marks which was 92 at that time was not enough to get admission in govt engineering colleges and the OBC cut off was 120+. So, in Whole northeast Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology is the no 1 and the oldest private engineering college and I decided to take admission there.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
