Remarks

For undergraduation one can definitely choose Kilpauk Medical college. It has a decent academic, cultural and sports activities with necessary exposure. It is located in the heart of the city and is a small campus due to which it lacks services in a few departments which was compensated by institutes within the city.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

People interested in medicine can choose for sure. My course has a total of 19 subjects throughout 4 and a half years and 1 yr of compulsory rotatory resident internship (CRRI). Exams were based on both theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, necessary for anyone joining medicine. Exams were fine.

Placement Experience

4.5

All medical colleges provide internship. Internship duties were hectic in few departments as they have 36 hrs shifts once/twice per week depending one the infrastructure of the college. Current stipend for an intern is ?20000 per month.

College Events

4

My college has various academic and cultural events both intercollege and intracollege. Starting from Hostel day function, Ecofest for environmental day, Vaanavil (intracollege cultural), Medrenaline(intercollege quiz) and Pradharshini(intracollege culturals)

Fee Structure And Facilities

As it is a government medical college, the fee structure is feasible. Overall college fees for 4years should come around ?40000, which is roughly around ?10000/year. Exam fees should also be paid a month before exams which should be around ?6000-8000 per year depending on the number of papers in that year.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not know of any scholarship provided by the college. But I got scholarship from my state government every year after producing a Bonafide certificate from the college with our college Dean signature to the district Collector office.

Campus Life

4

My college had various extracurricular activities both academic and sports. We participate in various tournaments throughout the year in various medical colleges and conduct an intra and inter College sports events once a year.

Hostel Facilities

4

I had stayed in hostel for the whole 5 and half years and it was pretty good. We hardly had Water or Electricity problems in our hostels. Our hostel has a gym. Our hostel mess was decent and had adequate rooms for the amount of people stayed there.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors were helpful. In a professional course like medicine, we tend to depend on each other. Our alumnis were helpful and are always on the lookout for ways of improving our college. Our college has a alumni association which takes care of these things.

Admission

I got admitted based on my 12th marks. Now it is based on NEET UG exam. Based on the marks obtained from the entrance exam(NEET), call letter was given for counselling on a particular date. I attended my counselling, got a seat in my college

Faculty

Faculties guide us throughout the year. Intrested people can do thesis, ICMR projects, Paper presentation, Case presentation etc., Faculties play an important role in these academic activities done by students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It deals with patient care and clinical diagnosis along with hands on training the influenced my decision to take up this course. Through ward postings, history taking and case discussion it prepares me well for my PG exams and further future pursuits. Skill based learning should be emphasised more along with small group teaching. Sometimes the close spacing of exams can be very stressful. Difficulty level is appropriate.

Course Curriculum Overview:

the course is very challenging obviously as we're studying to become doctors. it could've been better by increasing the duration of the course. our first year/ semester instead of it being for 12 months was only of 9-10 months so our portions are being pushed a little. it happened due the scam etc around neet and our course start date was pushed. the course could be made easier by increasing the duration of the course. we have exams every week which does make it easier to keep up with the portions but makes it too stressful for us. maybe instead of keeping exams on monday they could change it to saturday so we can relax and be free on sundays.

The students in their internship will get around 35000 per month excluding their mess fees, they have the option to opt out of the mess. And once they finish their internship they had to do two years bond in places where the colleges allot them and the salary for those two years will be decided by the place the person goes and itll be definitely more than what they get during internship.
