What Students Say
Likes
- The thing I liked the most is that as there are only 10 of us in the class so the faculties pay a lot of attention towards our studies.
- You'll find the positive and friendly gesture of many teachers.
- The college campus is in the outer area between woods, so environment and aura is quiet and peaceful.
Dislikes
- There are very less books for literature students in the library.
- The management of the university lacks a bit behind so you'll have to be patient with every event and activities taking place around the campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is recently designed and approved by higher authorities and is almost similar to what Delhi University follows. I was always keen towards studying literature and took a deep interest in classics and what I've learnt till now from the college is commendable! Literature has always been fascinating. There's a lot of skills developed in this program as in your charcter building, critical thinking, creative knowledge as well as a better hand at writing. You can become an editor, a writer, a creative director, journalist and a lot more. The department needs to improvise in terms of library as they lack books and novels for literature students. Visits to theatres, museums and libraries must be included in the curriculum for a deeper knowledge into the field. Exams are moderate and more dedicated towards writing long answers as they are divided into three sections carrying a weightage of 2,5 and 10 marks which makes you feel a bit monotonous and tired while writing them continuously 2-3 hours depending on the which term you're sitting for. But as a literature student you must have a better grip at writing, as per my knowledge.
Internships Opportunities
As far as I know, there's no such internship for our course but we did a social internship for a month at the end of our 1st year I'm some organisation/ NGO of our own choice. Well that was to gain social experience and develop skills so there was no such stipend offered to us.
Placement Experience
Usually there are a fewer placement option for our department but you can always sit off campus if you desire as most of the students usually opt for higher studies. But the average package you can expect on campus would be 4-5 LPA from MNCs. As I'm planning for higher studies, so I'd rather not sit for campus placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
As per 2023, tution fees per sem I'm paying is 25000 (+4500 for examination). I guess the tution fees might have increased by some amount this year. But if you're a resident of Uttrakhand, a deduction of 25% from your tution fees per semester is applied only if you have the required domicile proof. The registration fees that I paid was around 6500 and the caution amount that'll be returned back by the completion of the course would be 1500. Whereas, the course is all theory so there are no other charges. Merit based scholarships, state domicile scholarship ls, girl child or single parent scholarshiare also available but you can choose only 3 of them for the first year and 1 is applied for all other year.
Campus Life
Monthly department wise events are held on a regular basis to keep the students grounded and curious. A literary fest is organised by the English department every year which is open to all the students of the university in participating for poetry competition, story writing etc etc. The khel utsav is held every year including a variety of sports such as cricket, football, basketball, volleyball etc. Whereas the annual fest of the university called 'Pinak' is held every year in the month of April which lasts for a week. Many top celebs like Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal have organised concerts in the university. The aura during this time is wholesome and one of the best things if the university one can never miss out on. Students run clubs for different types of departments as in literaty club, singing club etc.
Admission
So, before choosing this university I had applied for doon University for which I was supposed to give an entrance exam which I couldn't due to my poor health when it was scheduled. And thus I lost that chance but I've not regrets regarding that as the college I'm in right now has provided me with the best experience. The admission process is simple as it's a direct admission. You just have to fill out the required form and submit documents as per eligibility after which you have to pay registration fees and tadaa!! Admission successful.
Faculty
There are a total of 5 faculties for the English department and each of them has been very kind, generous and approachable since the 1st day of the college. You can reach out to them at any hours of the day and they're all always ready to help us out. The relationship between the students and faculties is understanding and friendly. There are 2 sessions of exams in one semester. The mid-terms and the end-terms. Mid terms are of 50 marks while the end term carry a weightage of 100 marks. Exams are average. You can pass easily and even score better if you've listened attentively during the lectures. The curriculum follows as that of Delhi University so its almost exciting to read same things as that of DU students.
Night Life
As I'm a day scholar so I don't have much idea about the night life of the campus but since many of my friends stay in hostel, they frequently share their experiences to us. There are seperate hostels for girls and boys and the entry time for girls is upto 6 pm due to the isolated area. There's a gym, cafeteria as well as library open to all girls and boys. Hostel life is quite exciting in the campus. The campus timings are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Whereas there are a lot of places nearby the campus to roam around and hangout such as Kimadi, Koti, Kandholi which are situated at a higher altitude in the hills usually taking 1-2 hours to reach there.
