A detailed review on GCT Coimbatore - Most affordable college of Asia.

I like physics in class 12, so i choose electrical and electronics engineering. Here the syllabus is bit old but upto current standards. Syllabus will be updated every 4 years. There are some courses offered by colloborting with industries. Also there is a option to opt for honours and minor degree. For this the eligibility will be 7.5 cgpa and no history of arrears. The subjects will be enough for cracking placements and competitive exams . Smart board and projectors are available in classroom for better engagement of students. But i prefer black board mode of teaching. There will be 2 internal exams at a frequency of 1.5 month. Overall a semester will be 4 month long. The difficulty level will be easy to moderate only. if the chance of choosing subject of our own, it will be better.The staffs are better at teaching concepts and some will even arrange a industry visit for better understanding.

I completed 4 weeks of government sponsered internship in Larsen and toubro, Coonoor. Initially we have to take care of expenditure, then based on bill submitted amount will be reimbursed. I completed a project titled 'Motor Protection using REO relay'. Currently I am working on project named water level monitoring as my final year project. Each student will form a team of 4 and each team will be assigned to project guide, a faculty from the same department. There will be 4 reviews for project - zeroth review, first review , second review and third review, to access our progress in project.

Students are eligible for placements from seventh semester. As of the stats of 2025 batch, total of 180 companies arrived till now and 102 students get placed. Highest package is 31 LPA by VISA and it was offered to two students. Average package is 8lpa. Overall placement percentage is 70% for last year and 90% for back previous year. My plans after degree is to get placed in a company.

The tution will vary depend upon the category you belong to. There are two categories : first graduate and non-first graduate. For first graduate, the tution fees will be 4630 rupees and for non first graduate the amount will be 6630 rupees. For SC/ST students the tution fee is 4630 rupees. There is no other fee. This amount will not change for 4 years. The caution deposit of rupees 5000 has to be paid at the time of admission, it will be returned to you when you complete the course. There are plenty of scholorships available to the students - first is state government tution scholorship, from this scholorship tution fees we pay will be credited back to our account. Other alumni scholorship also available. Semester wise top 2 students will be given with a sum of 7000 rupees will receive this scholorship, and other scholorship such as 94 gctians where entire cost will be taken over and you can study with zero fees. Other fees like exam fees will be there, for each paper you have to pay 250 rupees and for lab paper it will be 500 rupees. Then if you are a hostel resident there will be mess fess, The mess will provide food for three times and morning and evening there will be milk, the cost will be 2500 per month. I completed my education with zero fees, since there will be other private scholorships like ffe and ssf can also be availed for eligible students.

For every department there will be one department function per semester. Odd semester function will be one day and even semester function will be two days. This two day function will be inter college function meaning other college can participate. Other function which are held for all over college is held by tamil mandram and other clubs like muthamizh vizha and fiesta. My department function names are commenzer and oracle. I those funtions culturals, and book releasing events will be held, various completed will be conduction on behalf of it and certificate distribution will be there. There are other clubs like NCC - national cadet corps, NSS - national service scheme, DAC - Defence Aspirant Council etc for developing social skills. These clubs make students involved more in extra curricular activities other then academics. Also there are state and international level clubs like Rotaract and Y's youth club where students can explore other states and engage with other students which improve their communication and inter personal skills.

For hostel facilities, each year you will be given with seperate hostel. Hostel standards will be average. Each room will have 4 members. For First year you will be alloted room randomly, from second year you can choose room mates. The mess menu will be purely vegeterian. The quality of food will be average, dont expect for variety, the food will be monotonous, Every sunday afternoon there will be vegetable biriyani/mushroom biriyani. Then wednesday night there will be chappati, Saturday morning there will be poori. Monday and friday morning will be pongal with vada. Apart from these days breakfast/lunch will be idli or dosa. Registration process for hostel is simple, just we have to show id card, and forms will be given, we have to fill those forms and get sign from hostel warden and superindent. Then a green card will be given for hostellers, which is like a admit card into hostel premises. Students have to carry while going out. I havenot tried pg out, but my friends from other department say they live in an area called saibaba colony.

In the admission process i applied only for government colleges like anna university chennai, gct coimbatore, gce salem, thiagaraja college madurai like that. Because i cant afford private college, among these government colleges gct coimbatore remains my first choice and got the admission in there. The main reason of choosing this college is affordable fee structure and good placement statistics. The admission process for government colleges are purely through Counselling process, there is no management quota. Based on our 12 th mark, a cutoff for 200 marks will be calculated. In this 100 marks from maths and 50 from physics and 50 from chemistry will be accounted. Then a rank list will be released based on this cutoff mark incl all applicants, it is called general rank list. There will be other rank list like community rank list where the rank will be grouped by community such as BC, MBC, SC/ST. Every college will release a seat matrix based upon their vacancy. Student have to fill a choice list based on their interest. And based on the rank, the software will check the vacancy for seats in the choice order and finally college is alloted. There will be three rounds of admission, After every round they will release the vacant seat matrix. There will be a gap of 1 week between rounds.

The faculty-to-student ratio is 20, for every 20 students there will be one teacher available. there are 4 years in my degree, each class will have 60 students and total of 240 students students are there and there are 20 staff in my department (including HoD, permanent staff and contract staffs). The staffs are easily apporachable, they will give you guidance when needed. They will help you a lot other than studies also. My best faculties are Rajeswari Mam and Sowkarthika mam, they took subject circuit theory and digital circuits respectively. They teach me the concepts in best way, no others could. There is no staff that i consider dislike, every faculties in my department are upto the standard. The examination pattern will be: For every semester there will be two unit tests, each will be of 60 marks with 6 * 2mark question and 4 * 12 mark question. For assignment there will be 40 marks. The external exam will be for 100 marks. Of which 10 * 2 mark question and 5 * 16 mark question, each 16 mark is a either or type. The overall grade is relative grading scheme. Based of top mark, the grade of other will be decided. For overall internal is converted to 40 and external is converted to 60. The pass mark is 45. The difficulty will be easy to medium, the questions will be straight forward from syllabus. The number of failures in my class is around 1 or 2 in some subjects only.

For hostel timing, boys hostel will be close by 10pm and girls hostel will be close by 6pm. The college affinities like gym, cafe, library will be closed by 6 pm. There will be lots of stalls outside for chat items and food. I like SS dosa kadai outside the college which is famous, where most of the student eat. For non veg there are option like Royal biriyani store. The locality is so safe outside, students can roam safely without fear. So it is so safe for students.
