Review of IHMCT&AN, Kolkata

The college holds the prestigious award for being the best hotel management college in the state of West Bengal & holds 5th rank among the top Hotel Management Institutes in India , as given by Global Research Development Centre pvt. lmt. New Delhi.

This is a 3 yr BSc course that includes 6 semesters. Every semester has a mid term exam, whose 5% marks is calculated in the final semester marks. Semester has both theory and practical exams. Passing criteria is minimum 40%. 75% attendance is required to sit for every semester. Since our college is affiliated to IGNOU , total 5 papers are to be given in 3 years as a part of completion of the degree.

Ihm Kolkata guarantees 100% placements at good hotels, retails etc. Students are given placements during their 3rd year through interviews conducted by various 5 star hotels and other reputed companies. Internship program is there. A student goes for his/her Industrial Training during the second year. The whole batch is divided into 2 groups- summer batch and winter batch. Training continues fir 17weeks per group. Students need to sit for interview conducted by various hotels in the college campus itself to appear for the training.

Events in college include induction program for freashers, fresher's party, independence day celebration, durga puja celebration, diwali celebration, food festivals (Gourmet Nite being one of the top college fests in eastern india), intracollege fests, inter ihm sports meet, students nite, farewell party, alumni nite. Since the college is affiliated to Ministry of Tourism, swachha bharat programs are also conducted.

Fee structure is feasible indeed. The total fee sums upto ?3.5 lacs approx (excluding the hostel charges). Considering all other expenses regarding uniform and other essentials, it will be around ?4lacs.

I am not aware of any such scholarship program / programs. Hence, did not avail for any such program. Neither heard from any of my batchmates availing or registering themselves for such facility.

Extracurricular activities are given immense importance in our college. All students get chance to showcase his/her talents during the fests or events that take place in college. We have 3 large kitchens for practicals of 3 different years, air-conditioned banquet hall and restuarant for training and learning purposes, air-conditioned computer labs with latest software and housekeeping lab with some important machines used in hotels.Our campus has a ground for outdoor sports. Inter IHM sports meet has been started recently by our respected principal sir.

Seniors play an important role. Apart from faculty members, they sometimes guide us well regarding exams / extracurricular activities / college fests / campus interviews. Their experiences during industrial training is also of great help.

I gave the all india entrance examination, NCHMCT JEE, got my rank 933 and through counselling process, opted for this institute. I got enrolled in the first chance of counseling itself, after submitting the required documents along with the first semester fee.

The college has an excellent faculty team. Every teacher has working experience in hotels.We have both senior lecturers and assistant lecturers who guide us with their immense knowledge and experience about the hotel industry. From day 1, we are groomed for our future career as hoteliers.
