DEPARTMENT FOR ACADEMICS

The Institution divides the staff as mentors for each students. So we can easily interact with our mentor. The curriculum is made based on the syllabus of CSIR NET ,so we can easily prepare for competitive exams.

The internship opportunities are vast, the Institution allows to do project or internship in national institutions such as CSIR labs,RRI ,BARC,etc . We can also apply for projects (paid) by national science academy,etc for summer internships also.

The Department of Physics,Kannur University is a very good Institution who are seeking for study with research activities.The Institute gives a chance to associate with research scholars while pursuing the masters. The Institution provide a healthy environment for students to complete their course. Basically, Kannur University is a multi campus system which developed under a special vision. So the Department of physics is in the PAYYANNUR campus.Rather than physics, there are four more courses are there, which includes chemistry, geography and music. The Institution currently doesn't provide any placement but guide us to reach in a prestigious central Institutions for higher career option. The department newly started the five year integrated program(FYIP). We have to pay a semester fees which is around 9000 rupees and exam fees for each semester about RS. 1500/- ,But those who have Egrantz scholarship(given by the government of Kerala to minorities) should reemit any kind of fee. As a whole,the department of physics, Kannur University is a good option for pursuing masters degree. Currently there is no men's hostel. But we can avail many other option such as PGs or rental houses are available near the campus. The ladies hostel charges about Rs. 350 for three months for rent.The laboratory facilities are exceptional which includes UV spectrometer,Raman spectroscopy, Xr-d ,etc. The institute lacks facilities for sports and other extra curricular activities. The department have 4 permanent teachers and 3 temporary staff . Each of them are very qualified and has several post docs, research aptitude and teaching experience.Each of them have different field of interest in research,so we can have the luxury to select any field in physics.Academically,the Institution is good option.

I'm satisfied with facilities available for the academic studies. But I have a concern that I'm a sports enthusiast ,but the Institution doesn't provide any of facilities. The extra curricular activities are much low compared to other institutions,the university mainly focuses on academic studies.

The department of physics, Kannur University is an institution which provides good facilities for academic and research. The academic environment gives us a positive vibe for studying physics. The admission process is by an entrance exam conducted by the university itself.

There is only a few number of students at the department (approx 80) ,and have 7 teaching staff. The teachers are easily reachable and help more than the subject. The syllabus is made that which suits for the preparation of CSIR NET exam.The exam is not that much tough,we can pass the subjects by good preparation.

The interview is not much difficult, we have to prepare something but not much. The entrance exam is moderate,the topics are from the syllabus of the subject at bachelor's degree. After the exam, the university will publish the rank list. Admission is purely based on that.

There is no gym in the campus,the department have a good library consisting of hundreds of books from different area .The night life is very poor. We have no access on the campus at night. There is no men's hostel,only ladies hostel is there.
