What Students Say
Likes
- The best thing about Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur is the infrastructure. It has the best in class infrastructure and probably the best among all of the other national law universities in India.
- The campus life is also pretty nice - the fests here are also pretty vibrant, specifically lawkriti and sportacus. About the boys: girls ratio it is 3:7!
- The university also has a very vibrant participation is co-curricular activities which helps in the overall development of the student.
Dislikes
- The university is located in the outer part of the city which makes transportation a bit hectic.
- The construction is still under way and that’s why some it lacks some of the facilities such as - recreational activity centres
Course Curriculum Overview
I would say that the course curriculum is devised pretty well. Choosing BA instead of BBA, I was able to revisit subjects like History, English, and Political Science from a legal point of view, taught by professors who were nothing short of experts in their fields. I learned a lot more than the school level basics and grew extremely fond of History, a subject I never thought twice about in school.
Internships Opportunities
At the moment, Internships are more or less managed by the students on their own. However, there is an Internsip Coordination Committee which helps some of the candidates in getting corporate or litigation internships depending upon their academic excellence (It is important to note that you become eligible for the internships arranged by icc from your third year onwards). Considering that the university
Placement Experience
Placements here are better now since the establishment of the Recruitment Coordination Committee (RCC). However, many of my seniors have gotten their PPO's on their own without any help from the university. Seeing as the establishment is relatively newer, not a lot of offers are made from the university itself. That said, the faculties are usually helpful in securing PPO's or letters of recommendation, which some require for further studies abroad
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees to paid is Rs. 3,65,000; 3,18,000; 3,36,650; 3,56,615; 3,78,577 for the first, second, third, fourth and fifth year respectively. The tuition fees ranges around 1.65-2.41 lakhs as the year progresses. The library fees is constant throughout five years which is 18,000, Admission fee is taken in the first year which is rs 3,000. The caution money for library, hostel and mess is 20,000 taken up during the first year. All of this is included in the fees to be paid in the respective year.
Campus Life
The infrastructure and campus life at Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur is probably the best aspects among all of the things that this university offers. Social life is also pretty high, a lot of students prefer sitting out on the lawn, playing football or badminton in the summer months. We also have bicycles that can be rented, so I prefer to ride outside the university amongst the greenery. There are plenty of clubs that the Cultural Commitee maintains and they remain active throughout the school year with events.
Hostel Facilities
Rooms have 2 twin sized bed frames, 2 study tables, 2 cupboards, 1 trashcan. The university allows kettles and irons, but relaxation can be sought for others too. There are only 2 sharing rooms. The mess is pretty good. It gets updated with Nagpur's fluctuating climates, like shikanji and dahi vada get added in the summer. They serve decent food, that seems better than restaurant food on exam days. They serve non-veg too, but there's a separate section for veg and Jain food. Residing in the hostels is mandatory, so registration for the same is done with admission process. I reside on campus in the hostel.
Admission
This college was my backup option, had I have not gotten into Odisha, Bhopal or any other higher ranked ones. I chose to stay here because of its close proximity to my hometown as well as being a good distance away to give me a sense of independence. Bhopal being one of the top 10 NLUs, I had planned on securing a high enough rank to make it. However, I scored lower than expected and chose to stay in Nagpur. I also was accepted to Odisha and Kochi.
Faculty
Faculty members here are pretty knowledgable and some of them are even too good. Faculty ration is roughly around 1:30. Afterall it depends upon the student how much they can extract from the faculties, as it is not possible for the faculties to cater to each individual separately. Therefore, post class consultation with the faculty play an important role.
Night Life
Considering the university is located in the outer parts of Nagpur, nightlife is almost negligible here. Afterall safety is of paramount concern, therefore the in-timings of main gate is 8:30 at the moment and 10:30 for the hostels. However, some relaxations are provided during exam season in which library and the reading halls stay open for access till midnight. Regarding, the cafeteria, it usually stays open till 10-10:30 but the timings are subject to fluctuations.
