Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is fairly outdated in the view of real world applications. Our course had a subject of Embedded Systems which was not helpful at all. Machine Learning was taught without explaining its underlying mathematical principles. Most of the faculties relied on power point presentations as their go-to teaching method. It got quite boring during the lectures. Sessional exams were held twice in a semester, best scores among those two were given priority for final scores after the semester exams. The exams were easy to score in and maintain a decent cgpa even with a night to prepare before.
Placement Experience
The placements are below average but the students were below average too. But there were some exceptions. Due to relaxation on attendance criteria most of the students opted to prepare of GATE or Government exams. Students were eligible for placements in the start of 4th year i.e. 7th semester. Around 30-40 companies visited for the CSE department (for the roles of software engineers and marketing). Highest package was 6 LPA and average package was around 3 LPA for CSE. Around 20 offers were made to our department. As for the other departments, the stats are available on the site. 20%-30% students were placed, both on-campus and off-campus. I was fortunate enough to secure an offer during on-campus placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
For All Candidates - Annual Fees - 90000 per year Sceurity Deposit (One Time) - 2000 Medical Fees - 200 per year Hostel Fees - 50000 per year The fees are from 2020, there had been an increase of 6-7% every year. Most of the students were from UP so they were able to avail the benefits of UP scholarship. The amount was around 83000 provided you maintain some criteria.
Campus Life
There were no annual cultural and technical fests. Only tech fest was Jnanagni, which was held irregularily as there were no funds being alloted to the fests. It was students to secure the funds. Most of the books were available in library. Classrooms were simple and some of them had projectors for power point presentations. There were variety of sports activities offered in the University, Volleyball, Basketball, Football, Badminton, Table Tennis etc. There were zero to none student clubs and even if there was one it remained mostly dormant due to laziness and disinterest of students.
Hostel Facilities
There were three hostels in University and one in college. The one in the college was available only to the engineering students. Students were alloted rooms based on the distances of their hometowns and categories. There were two hostels in the University which was available only for 1st and 2nd year engineering students. The remaining hostel was available for all University students but the students from engineering course were given a priority. Meal quality was ok-ish in all the hostels. Hostels were fairly affordable. Rooms were triple sharing. There was no restrictions in electronic equipments. We went for a rented flat in our final year in Khanna Nagar. There were 6 of us and average monthly expenses were around 9000-10000, so the hostel were an affordable choice but the they were located near fields and gardens, so no nightlife was possible.
Admission
It was the only college offering CSE during JOSAA councilling based on my JEE Mains score, so I decided to opt for it without thinking twice. I was offered a seat in special CSAB round. Seats are offered based on JEE Mains scores. Lateral entry for diploma holders is offered directly in 2nd year based on the examination conducted by the University. The admission process was fairly simple, 75k were deposited during the JOSAA councilling and documents like 10th marksheet, 12th marksheet, Medical Certificate etc. were required to submit during the admission process.
Faculty
Faculty student ratio was around 8:120. The faculty were friendly and approachable. As I belonged to CSE Department, all the faculties from CSE were friendly and helpful towards us. As for the other departments, they were helpful sometimes but irritating most of the times. Most of the faculties knew their subjects well but did not knew how to teach (prepared powerpoints) but who goes to learn in the college anyways. The exams were fairly easy to excel in, one could maintain cgpa above 8 even if he studied a day before the examination. The college held sessional exams twice in a semester. The best scores from the two exams made it to the report card. It was compulsory to appear in atleast one sessional exam. The practicals were both easy and hard.
Night Life
The college and hostel both were secluded in a remote area. Most of the students opted for PG and flats as they were near the centre of the city with bustling life and common necessities. The locality was fairly safe to roam around nights, the hostel timings were from 6 am to 11pm. Gyms were near the university hostel. There was also gym in the university but it remained closed most of the days. Leisure activities were limited to bathing in the ghats and adventuring in the Cities of Rishikesh and Deharadun as they were close to Haridwar.
