Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course of study influenced me in a lot of ways in terms of serving to the society and the government in the field of construction works for a better development of the society as a whole. The preparation in terms of curriculum towards the real world is quite relevant in terms of technical knowledge and communication as well. The areas that the course curriculum needs to improve is to focussed more on relevant topics rather than including the other courses topics depending on the course of study. The timing if the exams are appreciable.

Internships Opportunities

5

Internship opportunities were given, however seats are limited and yet students can go for other internship training at their convenient places. Some of the internships recently given was from Topcem cement company with stipend around 7k per month and the other was Cosmo first limited with stipend upto 20k per month.

Placement Experience

4

Well, the placement opportunity opens for all the last year students every year. Yet I have a plan to not go for placement and focused on my homestate competitive exams for relevant jobs and opportunities. The students can seat for placement exam or viva/ interview in their 7th or 8th semester.

Fees and Financial Aid

I took the admission as a lateral entry student in the year 2022 in Btech Civil Engineering course. In the year 2022, the admission was 30k and security deposit was 10k. Along with that the administration fee and registration fee was 40k so it makes a total of 80k during the admission. Then I joined from 3rd semester and the semester fee for 3rd semester was waived off from university scholarship. Then 4th semester fee was 40k at that time and for 5th semester it was 50k. again the 6th semester fee was 40k and the 7th and 8th semester was 60k respectively. So I have completer all my semester fees due at this time. The scholarship was given from the National portal scholarship, under umbrella scheme post matric and the amount was 40500 for day scholars and 47000 for hostellers for students of meghalaya. The amount of scholarship varies from state to state. Likewise, students from Arunachal are getting 50k and from Tripura are getting 85k and so on with other state's students with different amounts.

Campus Life

5

Every year the university organised a college week followed by an attitude fest that includes campus concerts, singing, dancing etc. A broad range of books are accessible and available at the library for students to use, read and study. The classroom facilities are appreciated with smart boards and projectors for presenting or displaying for learning purpose. Extra curricular activities and sports are always there for enthusiast person. Students run clubs like music, dancing, singing, games, sports etc. These provides the students to explore not only the academic sessions but also to enjoy at the same time.

Admission

The first thing about this college is that it is quite affordable than the other colleges or university. I chose this college because I got a direct admission when I call for the admission. First I thought of joining in the Assam Don Bosco university in the same course but was too late for the admission and because of the limited seats. The admission process can be done in both online and offline mode. Yet I did offline mode. The course of study I chose requires a 12 passed with science in physics, maths, and chemistry and the other relevant eligibility was 3 years diploma in relevant course.

Faculty

4

The relation between faculties and students are good and ready to help at any moment. Partha pratim sarkar sir, Nabanita Daimary maam and Gayatri maam were few of the names that I liked about in terms of maintaining their cool and collective attitude, teaching, and learning techniques they have towards students are appreciated. In terms of exams, we have two semester exams in a year. The exam is quite easy if given a decent amount of effort. Out of 100, maybe 15 students are getting backlog due to their personal reasons better known to them. The course curriculum is relevant to your course of study.

Night Life

5

Gym for body builders are available in K block with affordable fees for 1 semester. Library was in the same building. Cafeteria or canteens are almost there in every block of building for students and faculties. The timing of the campus is from 9am to 4pm.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not really good in our college, it is more of a research institute so it mainly focuses on PhD as PhD strength is good. Higher education is more prefered here but placement scenario is also good

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very relevant and is different for different branches according to their needs. I was interested in civil engineering and chose the course and find the curriculum intersting and relevant for me . The curriculum offers subject which are important for real world applications, like in civil engineering it's offers subjects like building construction, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, material testing, serving, etc. The course curriculum is very good but the teaching methods needs improvement like more digitalization . The exams frequency and timings are neither too late nor too early, they are perfectly planned and executed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There exists a good teaching staff that's why the course is very easy to understand also teachers give us good examples also do practicals so that's students understand the course easily . I see that there exist a low no of equipments in practical lab compare to it's students ratio so if they have a good no of equipments then all students get equipment to do experiment without any waste of time . Time is good as compare to marks and the first 30 marks are beginner level the other 40 marks are intermediate level and the remaining 30 Marks are advanced level questions in a question paper for the students they published.

I choosed because my CEE marks which was 92 at that time was not enough to get admission in govt engineering colleges and the OBC cut off was 120+. So, in Whole northeast Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology is the no 1 and the oldest private engineering college and I decided to take admission there.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
