Joint Mtech In IITR

The course is very similar to the MTech VLSI course, run by the same department. The experience gained at IIT R and Taiwan is very helpful in getting good placements in the field of semiconductors. The course have equal parts of Electronics and physics, which is much more suited for students with background in electrical and electronics.

Many companies arrive on campus for internships. Companies look for people to work in different roles. Almost every major company is available to hire interns. A good CGPA and good projects will help in getting a good internship

The placements are very good. Being an old IIT many good companies arrive on campus in the final year of your undergrad and post grad. The placement cell is very active throughout the year and provide help and support to any person seeking it. The career development cell is another good initiative to help student in pursuing their goals.

The course is a Joint Degree program between IIT Roorkee and three Taiwanese Universities. Students are required to complete 2 semesters in IIT Roorkee and 2 semseters in the Host institute. The fees for two semesters in IIT R is 63850 per semester. This includes 5000 for tuition fees, 12550 for semster charges, 6000 for accomodation charges, 3000 for electricity charges, 30300 for mess charges and 7000 as student establishment which is non refundable. For GATE quailfied candidates monthly stipend of 12400 is available. For the two semester in the Taiwanese universities the tuition fees is same but the student is required to pay for his accomodation,food, visa, travel expenses and other expenses on their own. You might get scholarship depending on your choice of university.

IIT Roorkee has many clubs and student groups, which are active through out the year. The cultural fest 'Thomso' is organized every year in the month of October. And Technical Fest 'Cognizance' is usual seen in March. Many sports meet like Sangram, Inter IIT sport meet are held every year for students.

The hostels are good. Most hostels are single or double seaters. There is no hostel timing for almost all hostels. Each hostel has their cafeteria, night canteens, tailor shops, stationary and gym. The food in the mess is agreeable.

IIT Roorkee is one among the best IITs in the country. The institute is more than 100 years old, with rich legacy of producing great engineers. I applied to IIsc Banglore as well but couldn't get in due to my interview.

The faculty in the institute are well qualified. Many of them have completed their degrees from good universities, in both India and abroad. The field of research in the institute is very diverse. Though due to the large student population, the faculty might not be well connected with most of the students.

There are no hostel timings. Each hostel has their cafeteria, gym and other amenities. The campus is very green with many area available for hanging out after classes. Though the city doesn't offer much in terms of fun, students usually travel to Rishikesh and Dehradoon to unwind during weekends or vacations.
