Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is not very difficult and aligned to industry requirements. The course curriculum includes a mandatory internship for each students which prepares for real world applications or further academic pursuits. The course curriculum is good but the teaching method should change. Instead of teaching on blackboards the students must be taught on digital screens which makes the class more interactive. At this colleges the exams are frequent. We have one exam every month and I belive this is necessary so that the students studies throughout the semester instead of studying just at the end. The exams are not very difficult and a students can clear any exam if he have attended the lectures

Internships Opportunities

3

No companies visit our college for internship. Each students has to find a internship by themselves. However if a student is unable to find a good internship the college has MOU with multiple companies which help in getting students a internship. The main role in tech is SDE intern and the companies pay a stipend of 5000-10000 per month. The students work on various projects which help them gain industry experience

Placement Experience

3

The placement at my college are decent. Students from Computer and IT department easily get placed at a company. The companies that frequently visit Goa engineering college are persistent, one shield, Infosys, tcs , Wipro etc . Each year there are around 300 offers received in the entire college. The highest package a student has got is 15lakhs per annum from TurtleShell. The average package is 6 LPA. Around 50% od the students get placed. I wish to work at a product based tech company after my graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tuition fee per semester at Goa engineering college for any branch is 45,400 this is just the tuition fee apart from this we have to pay a mandatory examination fee which ranges from 4000-6000 per semester. The students willing to avail hostel fecility have to pay a semester fee of 6100 per semester, There is also a mess fee which is 13500 per semester. Students at the goa engineering college avail a lot of scholarships. The most common one is Diamond Jubilee Gift scheme by Government of Goa, By availing this scheme the students have to pay half the amount of the above mentioned tuition fee. The criteria for this scholarship is that the student must be a Goan resident and the family income must be less than 8 lakhs per annum. This scholarship is given to all the eligible applicants regardless of their merit. The fee for reserved category student is also half of the above mentioned fees.

Campus Life

3

There are fests at Goa engineering college throughout the years. The most important fest is Happenings which is a cultural fest and it is held usually in March. The college has a central library and each department has their own library so there are many books and journals available. The college does not provide sports and extracurricular activities in the campus. The basketball court has both the rings broken and the multipurpose ground is not well maintained. the college has plents of clubs and societies which helps students connect and socialise.

Hostel Facilities

4

The room has basic facilities like furniture including a table, a chair, a cupboard and a bed. The room is generally 2-3 sharing in boys hostel and single rooms in girls hostel. The hostel rooms have fans and tube lights and plenty of sockets around the room. The meal quality is decent and the menu is inclined towards Goan food as most of the students are Goan. The hostel registation process is quite simple we have to fill a form during admission and pay the fees and the warden allots a room. The hostel is quite affordable as the fes is just 6100 per semester which is basically 1000 per month. There are few societies outside the colleges which have flats but the societies have decided not to rentout rooms to college students so there are no rooms available

Admission

I got a seat at Vellore institute of technology, Bhopal in the CSE branch. But I chose not to study at VIT bhopal as the college is really crowded and as the colleges is privately owned the stakeholders are money minded they try to take money from students in every possible way. Also my seniors had warned me about the toxic environment at VIT Bhopal. I didn't get rejection from any colleges but I failed to get a good enough score to get CSE at MIT Manipal and i could only get mechanical engineering in which I want intrested. My college takes admission based on JEE rank. Each students has to apply at the Directorate of technical education, Goa online portal. After which a merit list is rolled out. Offline counseling takes place where students can select a branch based on their merit

Faculty

4

The faculty to students ration at Goa engineering college is really great.Unlike private colleges goa engineering college doesn't have a very large intake. The annual intake for each department is just 90 students.Which make it 360 students in each department and each department has atleast 20 faculty members. So the ratio is around 1:18. All the faculties member are good but my favourite in the first year was Brigida D Souza ma'am. She is a really good mathematics teacher and helped me understand difficult concept. Although all the faculty members are good there are few faculty members who have really fragile ego. I won't be taking any names but there are some Each semester a student has to give 3 internal tests and 1 semester test for each subject. Each semester has 4-6 subjects. This makes it 16-24 tests evey semester. Nearly 30% of the students fail to clear atleast 1 paper in each semester. The course outcome is very relevant. After the implementation of New education policy in our curriculum our syllabus is more inclined towards practical learning.

Night Life

4

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants around the college which are open from 9 am to 9pm. These cafes and restaurants are mostly used by hostel students. The girls hostel has a curfew time of 9pm and in the boys hostel it is 10pm. Famous hangouts places inside the colleges is the college canteen and outside the college it is cafes like Tea Bar and Umesh Gados. Yes the locality is very safe to roam around at night

Students can start sitting in placements from the start of 4th year , when the Placement Division starts bringing companies to the campus. The average package for CS is around 20-26 LPA, for Electrical branches it's around 18-24 LPA and for Mechanical and Chemical it is around 13-16 LPA. These figures would've changed though from the last time I saw. Around 85-90% of the students get placed usually. Top notch companies like Google, Microsoft , DE Shaw, Arcesium Cohesity Rubrick recruit students every year for the tech roles and other prominent companies like Flipkart, Sprinkle, Intuiut and Coin Switch come for managerial roles as well. There is even a chance of getting a PPO through Summer Internship Program which kikstarts in the 3rd year where students compete to get internship in these top companies. Overall , BITS Goa has impeccable placement statistics

I have no clue but the highest placements are in Computer and IT branches. Civil has probably the least placement. The quality is good thanks to IIT and NIT being in the same campus thus the big companies that come to those colleges also come to our colleges but they prefer those students more because NIT and IIT are more prestigious colleges.
