The faculty at Goa College of Engineering (GEC) are well-qualified, all holding Ph.D. degrees, and maintain a faculty-to-student ratio of approximately 1:15 to 1:18. Each department has around 20 faculty members with an annual student intake of 90. Students face 16-24 tests per semester and a 30% failure rate per paper. Placement opportunities are robust, with companies like Infosys, Tata, and IBM visiting the campus. Students need a minimum of 60% in academics to qualify for placements, with salary packages ranging from 3 to 15 lakhs per annum, averaging 6 lakhs.
Out of 400 students, over 250 were placed this year, with around 300 offers annually. The highest package of 15 lakhs came from TurtleShell. Computer and IT departments boast the highest placement rates, while Civil has the lowest. Internships are a crucial part of the curriculum, particularly in the 7th semester, with stipends between 5,000 and 10,000 INR per month. The presence of IIT and NIT on the same campus attracts big companies, but they often prefer students from these institutions.
Financial aid is available, including the Diamond Jubilee Gift scheme, which offers a 50% tuition fee reduction for Goan residents with a family income below 8 lakhs per annum. Standard tuition fees range from 40,000 to 50,000 INR per semester, with examination fees of 4,000 to 6,000 INR. Hostel fees are about 6,100 INR per semester, and mess fees are 13,500 INR per semester. Reserved category students and those with income or EWS certificates may receive additional concessions.
Overall, GEC is considered one of the most economical engineering colleges in Goa.
